Chinese publication ITHome reports that several premium RTX 20-series SKUs, which include the RTX 2070, RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2080 Super, and the RTX 2080 Ti, are on the chopping block, meaning that NVIDIA partners are placing the last orders with upstream suppliers for parts that make up their graphics cards based on these GPUs.

It is a slow process toward product discontinuation from this point, which usually takes 6-9 months, as the market is left to soak up leftover inventory. Another juicy bit of information from the ITHome report is NVIDIA allegedly guiding its partners to increase prices of its current-gen high-end graphics cards in response to a renewal in interest in crypto-currency, which could drive up demand for graphics cards. NVIDIA is expected to announce its GeForce RTX 30-series on September 17, 2020.

The "crypto currency" reference here is an apparent BS, it's been a while since miners switched to specialized hardware. It seems like NV is trying to make it's next gen offerings look "better" by price gauging older gen.

Note that 2060 Super and below are not affected. So pick your bet:
1) 3060 is not coming this year
2) 3060 will cost more
3) 2060s and below will cost less

Well, I'd already decided long ago that I was skipping the 3xxx cards, as a 2080 owner I just don't see the performance uplift of a single generational GPU leap worth it.

I have a simple rule for GPU upgrades thesedays, (at least) double the performance of my current card for roughly the same price as I paid for my current card...so it will most likely be an RTX 4080 in 2022 before I upgrade and hopefully any renewed Crypto mining price gouging will be over by then.

I had a HD5850 before the gtx 1080 and I swore off ATI/AMD since then. God lord did the ATI drivers sucked absolute ass. I also remember buying BRINK and the game just plain not working on ATI cards.

This isn't true. Bitcoin has switched to ASICs, but there are many cryptocurrencies out there that still use graphics cards. Many have gone out of their way to make their mining process ASIC resistant. It is a movement to avoid centralization of power within the cryptocurrency space.

In any case, nVidia has become too greedy, and if they don't watch out, it will become their downfall. They already lost a great deal with TSMC to AMD, and they have to create their graphics cards at inferior semiconductor manufacturers. And considering the APU in the XSX, AMD is going to come in blazing with its next gen GPUs...

Well I think that was just unfortunate timing, since drivers on their old GCN architecture were perfectly stable. It generally takes AMD a few driver releases to get up to speed on a new architecture.

i regret buying a rtx2080, bought it used on amazon. i already had a gtx1660ti...
long story short, watercooled the rtx2080, but was wrecked by me installing too long bolts to attach the waterblock... (should have bought the matching back plate)

in any case the water cooled gtx1660ti, is amazingly close in performane to a rtx2080, when you use adaptive sync/gsync and adjust the ‘eye candy” in the game. (or play at 1440p instead of 4k, “problem solved”)

nvidia is a ripoff, i will not buy any more Nvidia graphics cards. i wish the 5700xt was out when i bought the rtx2080. and i believe the new consoles will allow 60fps gaming (at 4k?, definitely at 1080p) and in doing so will render MOOT buying a Nvidia GPU that costs more than a AMD 5700/XT graphic card (the new Consoles graphics power standard)

x70 typically comes a month after x80, I'd be shocked if we didn't get 3070 this year.

I have a vega64 for over 2 years without any problems. And I use multiple screens and connectors.
Also, I built a pc for my neighbour with 5700xt from Asus half a year ago. He has zero issues with the card.
There were maybe some problems at launch, which is not something that is new in the world of tech, but after launch there are no problems with 5700 series.
