I get that being bigger means a better screen, bigger more comfortable joycon, and more space inside to pack components. I still wish it was smaller, not bigger. The closer we get to a Switch Lite with TV out, the happier I'll be.
We'll get that, but down the road when a cut down price is more viable.

It's ALL about the games. That is quite literally all that matters for me. And I'm hoping for a Mario Kart and new Mario 3D platformer announcement. Been FAR too long between drinks for both of those games.

So then do people think it's announced next week, next month or never?
I guess it’d make sense to reveal it this month before their investors meeting on February 4th.

Next week they’re launching DKC Returns, and while that’s not a huge game it’d still be weird of them to schedule the Switch 2 that week and knowingly overshadow that launch unless they have some specific reason to do so.

My guess would be that next week is a bust (although maybe we’ll get a tweet announcing a date for the actual announcement), and that it’ll be shown sometime between the 20th to 31st.

The joysticks remind me of Stadia.

But the thing that sticks out to me is the new latch mechanism since the rail system is iconic for the Switch branding and hasn't really had any major issues. Thought about it some more and it probably is motivated more about redesigning the joycons. The old joycons had to bundle the lanyard attachment because it was too small, the way the new joycons go into the console allows it to be taller without bundling a separate attachment. Joysticks look to be more comfortable will be interesting to see if they are using hall effect sensors due to the stick drift issues they had to deal with in the current joycons. Though they probably won't since they want to sell replacement joycons they probably need to improve them just enough to the level of xbox/ps.

If rumors are to be believed Switch 2 will have Hall Effect sticks.

Not sure how many replacements they’re actually selling since Nintendo were required by law (at least in the EU) to repair JoyCons on Switch free of charge, even when out of warranty. Switch 2 would likely be a repeat of that if the issues persists, so they have incentive.

Not worth its own thread, the game case appears to be larger. Saw it in a retailer down here who apparently picked it up from a French or Portuguese (?) list.

He mentions that size is exactly the same as PS4 cases so it might not be real, measures came from a retailer description of a game.

Hmm not sure I like that. Would much prefer the same sized cases.

I was pretty sure they would go with smaller ones just like 3DS vs DS but who knows, maybe just as they got millions of unused Tegra X1 chips in 2017 maybe they found millions of PS4 unused cases this time :V

there will probably still be an attachment for wrist straps. motion controls without them is asking for trouble, especially when kids get involved lol.

the new mechanism is most likely way more sturdy. less wear because it literally just clips in, and it is easier to remove.
some people damaged their rails by sliding on the wrist strap attachments the wrong way around for example. if everything is just a magnetically guided clip-on, stuff like that can't really happen.

Saw somewhere that there is an attachment for the joycons to make it function better as a mouse, a clip-on housing for it to "transform" into a mouse.

Makes me think there could also be a clip-on attachment to give the joycons a better grip for those who want that, me included.

If the C button is for Cast, this means that Nintendo will have combined their entire legacy into one platform.

- Console
- Handheld
- Wii: Pointer controls through the new suspected mouse mode. Motion controls as also in Switch.
- Wii U / DS / 3DS / Game & Watch: Dual screen through casting.
- Switch: Switch 2 retains the hybrid, detachable split controller concept.
- DS: Switch and Switch 2 touch screens.

This also doesn't mention the button and analog stick contributions or the ability to play their older games. The big missing thing is 3D. But a point against this is if C is for Cast, why is the C button on the third party pro controller? Maybe for tabletop mode. It's also not known how casting would even work.

if apple can get away with iphones that look identical every year, im sure switch 2 will do fine with minor design tweeks on a yearly basis :lollipop_beaming_smiling: no hater i have both btw :messenger_grinning_squinting:
