Project M Demo: Smash Bros. Brawl with Melee Gameplay! [Update: Out Now]

so if by any reason i run brawl through the GAF Wii homebrew thread method of my backup being on a USB HDD using CFG, i can't run Project M?

dicks. I run Brawl off the USB so i can have Melee in the Disc drive when my friends get bored of Brawl and wanna switch to melee in a pinch.

Features man, those are called features.

Yeah, features like hitstun and shield stun. Such crazy, unheard of shit that was properly corrected in Brawl. It is all much more fun when everything is single hit pokes and ludicrously defensively oriented.

You can definitely run this through USB Loaders. You just have to make sure the one you're using has the ability to run codes. Someone asked about Dolphin a page ago, yes, you can run this on Dolphin too.

Also, release is just a day away! :) Here's a little hype trailer a playtester had made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLCyjl4JdiE

oh sweet, I'd have to ask GA's resident Wii Homebrew CFG USB-Loader guy about setting it up.

are people playing?

If you want to try and play people online, you can obviously try to use this thread to play with fellow GAFfers or you can go to the official Project M IRC with your IRC client: irc.gamesurge.net #projectm

Or I guess the other alternative is something called fsmash.org and go to the Project M section (wherever it is).

Demo 1 only really died off in online play because soon afterwards the development team were making huge progress on a lot of things which made that demo significantly outdated about a month or two later. Hopefully this time around demo 2 will be so much better that people will keep playing it for as long as possible (especially since there's 29 characters).

Anth0ny should really update the thread title... to accommodate for demo 2.

Waiting around for this is killing me....I want to try out Charizard so badly.

Do we have any idea about an approximate full release?

"Exploits" aside, Melee had a different set of physics that made for a very different game. It was faster, ring outs were more brutal and combos were actually possible.

Yeah I never learned how to wavedash or do many advanced techniques, but just the difference between trying to play meaningfully with Falco in Brawl, and Falco in Melee, is HUGE.

This hack is worth playing if just for getting rid of slipping. How on earth was that feature approved in the first place?!

Are they keeping Pokemon Trainer or separating the Pokemon into their own characters?
Separating. It was the only way they could program new Down-Bs for the Pokemon and that was the direction they wanted to take them. Charizard is in the demo but the others aren't ready yet.

Honestly not surprised that the demo isn't out yet, the same thing happened with the first one IIRC.

It's been delayed a day or two because they encountered a freezing glitch that they're trying to isolate and fix. Oh well, better to fix it! :p

Hello everyone! The last few days have been interesting, to say the least! I am pleased to announce that Demo 2 is finally out! You can download it here. Be sure to follow all of the instructions step-by-step.

We hope you can forgive us for the short delay - we promise it was not intentional. That's all in the past now that you can immediately start playing the second demo! Be sure to give constructive feedback or report any bugs that are not on our known issues list. On behalf of the PMBR, we truly appreciate the dedication of our audience. Hopefully we have met all of your expectations with this release, and we sincerely apologize for the delay. Have fun and be sure to come back for any possible future updates!

We also look forward to seeing what GAFfers think. :)

Best Regards,
-The PMBR

Damn, I didn't try the first demo and I'm done with Brawl but I might give this a go just for fun. Does this require a homebrew'd Wii? I'd have to do that... is it hard?

Make sure to read the FAQ and known issues while you are downloading, as downloads may be slow for awhile!

Thanks, folks, have a good night. :)

You'll need the WiFi one as well, all you'll need to swap for is the codes file.

Thanks, just read the FAQ part about this. So if I want to use both, can I have both on one card or do I need to swap every time I want to play wi-fi or local? What do you mean by all I'll need to swap for is the "codes" file? Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Mine just finished downloading. I assume you mean swap the contents of "code" everytime I want to play between local and wifi? I can't have both files in that folder?

Is it ok to use the installer to install onto an SD card where I currently have demo 1 already installed, or should I delete it first?

I would recommend deleting first, honestly. Back up any texture/music files you might want to keep though.

Also, hype stream by the dev team you can watch while downloading or something: http://www.twitch.tv/peefsmash

We're SOOO GLAD TO HAVE RELEASED YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA.

*needs this to hold me off until full release/we get Squirtle*

Haven't played the new demo yet, but the faster gameplay in V1 was so good. Me and my friends loved it. Brawl got us bored pretty fast, and Brawl+ was our mod of choice for months. I hope I can try this the next weekend.

Been loving the game thusfar, totally was worth the wait.

That said, any chance I could get a link to the updated FAQ? The site is getting crushed at the moment and it seems to be hidden. I'd really like to know which stages are glitched or replaced.

Feh, It was very awkward when we started to play the game. We will pick up quickly when we play more later on. Just that I am not used to new characters changes. I never follow the updates often and it just blew us off how much some of new characters changed.

If you hack your Wii and install Project M via one of those methods, do you have to switch between wi-fi and local files? I'm gonna have to buy an extra SD card because swapping out the contents each time is too cumbersome lol.

Wait. Don't tell me they fixed online. I might not be able to contain my SQUEEEEEEEEE.

They did. I played almost all night with a few close friends :)

You only need to swap the codes folder.

Right but I have to put my SD card back into my computer and swap between the two everytime I wanna switch from playing online with some friends to playing local multiplayer, and that's a little hassling so I was wondering if installing PM on a hacked Wii let you install both versions on the Wii or something. If not, I'm going to get an extra SD card to make swapping between the two gameplay options easier.

Or were you literally answering my question? Haha.

Sorry I'll try to not pester you with anymore questions!! Haha.

Hacking the Wii won't allow you to have both at the same time. Should probably have two SD Cards to make it easier, sure. It's fine to ask q's, I just more or less meant specific q's about stuff. I don't mind helping you guys out, it's what I'm here for, but keep in mind I'm also doing it elsewhere too (primarily the IRC chat).

I know I was all like "HNNNGGG" in my last post but on a more serious note: Can someone post their impressions of online play? Like, what kind of matchmaking/options are available and and how smooth the play is? My Google-fu is failing me here.

Well, it's pretty much the same. I mean, save for being able to change the Buffering in the match options (both players must have the same buffer settings, by the way for online play) it's still the same laggy online. We cannot fix it, to be honest... it sucks, we know! But people are still managing to have fun online, it seems. So maybe somehow it feels better? I don't know, but hey, it's a fun mod regardless! :)

Awwww I was all excited and everything. I figured it was too good to be true.

Well I'll still get it anyway. I love love LOVE Brawl+ so this seems like the next logical step.
