PS5 Pro: Developers share how they’re using new tech to enhance their games

I don't get people wanting PRO, nor the PRO itself.

Right now, 99% of the games will be games you already played, finished and maybe even platinumed; probably played more than once.

Then, by the time new games come out that truly utilizes and takes advantage of the PRO (If ever), the PS6 will be right around the corner and you'll be able to play those games enhanced and looking/performing even better.

This gen, the PRO is a bad idea, and just a way people are letting Sony SCAM them.
Same reason a sports fan buys season tickets
Same reason one would buy a slightly larger tv
Same reason one would own anime figurines etc...

I found this one even stranger. They presumably mean VRR though.

A 3700x is definitely very limiting in this game. Less intensive parts can drag up the average but it still drops into the 50s during heavy action. This video also includes newer Ryzen chips and the differences are dramatic.

Lets not forget, that PS5 (Pro) does not run 1000+ services which all fights with win scheduler + PS APIs are more efficient than Direct X, which is by design, given how many HW configurations DX has to handle.

No doubt but we'll find out soon enough. I'm just saying that people should keep their expectations in check.

It's harder to speak for the console versions but the PC version needs fast cores rather than many of them. You can see how it's mainly single-thread bound in the bottom graph in this capture while the helper threads are much less utilized.

Seems fine. Wish more games were running 120fps but makes sense with that cpu. These are likely the best cases scenarios they're using to promote it too.

So is the regular PS5 now the Series S for Sony? Is the regular PS5 going to hold back the pro, or is everything going to be developed for the pro and the regular PS5 gets lesser versions...

The PS5/Pro is better balanced for scaling than the S/X. In a sense the PS5/Pro differential is what Xbox should have released with. Almost identical CPU/RAM with a much stronger GPU.

Depending on glass half full/empty you could say the Pro will be held back sure. But its a mid gen upgrade and thats literally the intent, not to mess with the larger install base.

Mind you the only real way the Pro will be held back is that base machine will generally need non RT lighting making it less likely a dev goes all out on a RT only solution for the Pro.

Where’s the black ops 6 info
It's optimized for PS4 just like GTA6 and every other AAA game will be until PS5 outsells PS4. Outside of Sony exclusives (DS2 could limit its sales to just PS5) nobody's ignoring the larger PS4 market when PS4/5 games sell for the exact same price. PS3 died a natural death but the only reason games aren't still being sold for PS2/PS1 is that Sony killed them off - it's hard to imagine Sony ever killing off PS4. Users moving from PS4 to PS5 sell their PS4 to somebody and the PS market expands. More active platforms and more active users means more sales.

GTA VI is not a PS4 title

Isn't there something like 120mil PS4 consoles floating around?
If GTA6 isn't a PS5 exclusive and it is shipping on Series S it should ship on PS4.

Outside of a PS5 exclusivity arrangement, poor people who want to play GTA6 will buy the cheapest console which means Xbox Series S.
Sony will be losing a sh!tload of would-be-converts to PS5.
For Sony's sake Rockstar should ship GTA6 on PS4 to keep broke PS4 users from leaving PS to play GTA6 which will happen, likely en masse by way of a Series S bundle that MS will price artificially low.
Every PS4 user who buys GTA6 will know they're missing out on the full experience and would be motivated to buy a PS5 to get the better experience out of GTA6 with DualSense.
Between the PS4 and PS5 consoles Rockstar could make a PS exclusivity deal where GTA6 only ships on PS4 and PS5.
120mil PS4s plus 70mil PS5s is around 200mil consoles which is far more than all of the Xbox S and X sales.
It would be better for Rockstar to have GTA6 only on PS(4/5) as opposed to being spread out across 2 xboxes, PS an PC.

Shipping on PS4 would limit them even more CPU and memory wise as well as I/O streaming speed. PC version, as per Rockstar usual, will likely be 6-12 months behind receiving the extra time as development optimisation for the PC platform and modding support.

PS4 version would just be slightly inferior all around, much like the series s port. The big difference is that PS4 GTA6 would become PS5 GTA6 when the owner buys a PS5. Every PS4 sale of GTA6 would be a big incentive to get a PS5.
Xbox ports will never get DualSense.

Either the PS4 version would suck really badly or the PS5 let alone the PS5 Pro would be held back. We are talking about a very large RAM and CPU performance difference let alone the GPU side of things. This would not dissimilar to designing GTA: V for PS2 as basis console and then trying to keep it alive making money for so long.

I've called it before on GAF, you can mark my words.. I think people saying they won't buy a Pro being too expensive or not worthy to upgrade will cave to buy a Pro when GTA VI comes out because of how much better it will look and run on Pro. I won't be surprised if Pro is the only way to get 60fps where it doesn't look like dog shit and PS5 will be stuck at 30fps or IQ in performance mode on base PS5 will be seriously hindered.

That and a Bloodborne Pro Enhanced version. The scary thought of the Console being $700 will suddenly disappear.

Yep, when more games become Pro enhanced, especially new ones where we start seeing bigger differences between Base PS5 & Pro, people will go from 'I'm waiting for the PS6' to making a post saying 'I bought a Pro' lol

The thing is, they are not really going to be saving money buying it a year from now, all they are doing is missing out on enjoying it sooner. Same money will be spent and I would of enjoyed it for a whole year longer. It amazes me how some people really can't see the forest through the trees!

Plus all the other big budget games.

GTA VI will be 30 fps across all consoles.

Rockstar doesn’t care about PC users. They’ll play at 60 a year later.

It is what it is.

We wanted it to feel like a malevolent spirit took control of your FSR settings, so we carefully placed temporal artifacts all over the place. We don't want the player to think his config file is safe, even though it's a console game. This is just one of the steps we're taking in next gen, interactive horror.

I don't believe that, If Pro doesn't have a performance mode, it would be a terrible look for Sony and make PSSR a complete joke.. Unless GTA has some graphical fidelity/tech that has never been seen before, but I just don't see it happening. If it runs 30fps on base PS5, it should be able to have a performance mode on Pro using PSSR.

I plan to get ps5 pro next year. I will buy GTA6 game for my ps5, but Im cautious optimistic if they can achieve 4k/60 fps with Rt or at least 4k/60 fps without Rt even in Ps5 pro. If they were a 1st or 3rd party Sony developer and the game is exclusive to ps5, I believe 100% 4k/60fps with RT can be achieve but they are not. The game will even appear in lower spec xbox series S, which might affect the development of higher spec platforms. We shall see. Maybe this time Sony will really help them because this is a system seller and can be the major highlight for ps5 pro capabilities.

Sadly, Rockstar might sabotage its own 60fps mode in order to sell it as a full priced PS6 version for $80 in 2028 or whenever

No one will really know until release day. It's just based speculation.
