Can anyone here give a quick recap why UK prices are skyrocketing? Is it due to Russia? The UK doesn't have enough energy sources to self support itself?

Are other European countries having skyrocketing energy prices too? If not, how come?

In Canada, I dont think my energy bills have budged in years. Generally the same oil and electricity prices every month, with my water bill (issued every 4 months I think) being around the same too.

Same in Sweden.

We snorted too much of the green russian psyops and closed our reactors. Now we pay the price.

I know we're being told it could go up to as much as £7K per year, but that's just impossible for a majority of the population to afford.

Honestly, how many people will be able to afford almost £600 per month for energy, combined with skyrocketing inflation and rising interest rates? Very, very few. Millions will be plunged into debt and will have their gas shut off. I honestly can't see how the government and Ofgem can allow this. There must be an alternative solution.
We have a high end flat in London, 1900sqft with AC, AV system, wine room… electricity bill last month was £482. Insane.

a proper windfall tax should have been implemented months ago, instead they dawdled and the new PM is promising to not have it and just play with sone other taxes instead…but she’s full of shit so who knows what, if anything, will be done

Who the fuck knows what she is going to do. She's so fucking dim that it hurts just thinking about it. And she doesn't even have any character to even remotely make up for it.

If someone asked me to watch paint dry for a day, then add a fresh coat and order me to lick it, I'd lap it up like a cunt, rather than be within a 50 mile radius of her.

Russian invaders lost 350 people, 25 tanks, 37 armored vehicles, 5 cruise missiles in Ukraine over past day

Jesus Christ! I’m in the same kind of place, but nowhere near that much! How much fucking wine have you got? 😂

It’s a 500 bottle room :D also we have a wine fridge in the kitchen for cooling wines. We also have a Crestron rack with amplifiers for 16 ceiling Genelecs, the whole rack runs pretty warm so that probably contributes…

Just noticed that the flat you live in is 1900sqft and in London as well. Plus, you're bill was £482 before the October hike, so could be up to a grand by the end of the year.

However, a flat that size in London isn't cheap. Easily north of a million quid depending on where it is in London. In which case, congratulations on being extremely financially successful!

Energy bills are increasing at an exponential rate.

Initially 1.8k a year
Now 3.2k a year in October
From January? 5-6k a year

My government is run by incompetent fools.

Huge swathes of the population will be unable to pay to live.

I read Russian propaganda is working overtime to spread fear about energy crises and soaring costs to weaken support for Ukraine.

Don’t fall for it

There isn't enough energy for everybody, pricing now is an auction.

Climate policy restricted energy growth before enough viable alternatives were developed. Russia very likely calculated this is the best time to make economic cost high to any reaction against them.
Canada is a small population with the some of largest energy resources in the world.

Who said it would be easy ? Earning freedom isn’t easy! Good thing we learned a lot the past 80 years, about heating, isolating homes, we all need to pay this price.

My family is looking into helping the poorer in our community/ town to get them through the winter. Donating food, cloths, blankets , money. Or any other useful stuff.

Then my energy supplier (one of the biggest one in The Netherlands) must be secretly working for the Russians, because my energy bill went from €150 a month to almost €500 a month.

That's probably not exactly what he meant though.. But I get it, we all feel like venting about energy prices (even though it's semi-off-topic). I think the point is that as shitty as it feels right now there are and could be costs far higher than that appearing at our doorsteps later if we fall for the propaganda ("Join the dark side!") now because we're "tired". Europe asked Ukraine to bend over in 2014, and look what happened.. Cancer is best treated early (and don't bother asking it to "be nice"..), keep postponing it and you'll be doomed.

The worst thing about it imo is that there isn't even not enough energy, it is because of market speculation and fear that the prices went up, and the energy companies are making a fortune from it. There's no actual scarcity as far as I know.

And if you’d followed the conversation, that person I responded to was demanding that the EU forces a ‘negotiation’ with Russia that would see Ukraine lose a lot of territory. Reward terrorists for senseless slaughter. Just to keep having cheaper energy costs.

Well said. Precisely what I meant.

Multiple intelligence agencies have reported that it’s a key push from russian propaganda to try to use the rising energy costs to break the will of europe to keep supporting Ukraine.

I really and truly sympathize with everyone struggling with the rising prices. But the Long term benefits from weaning off the dependence on Russian gas + not letting Russia carry on their annexation plans is immense.

Yup, here's a small map of some of the useful idiots in ruzzia's propaganda network

https://twitter.com/StratcomCentre/status/1566495062741188608?s=20&t=oAZ1EkJRVzpVwO3nzCTSyQ

And lo and behold, look what happened the last few days:

"Alternative for Germany" organized protests, with ruzzian flags and all, protesting "energy", demanding Germany to stop helping Ukraine.

Austrian neo-nazi scene protesting "energy":

It's not even about normal people paying off their bills - it's about whole economy sectors closing down and Europe becoming non-competitive for years, while India and China get stronger. It will be a tough tough winter and 2023 won't be much better.

..And case in point, there it is; the purebred FUD propaganda materialized in this very thread. It's quite fascinating.

Its not about people paying bills, something real, relevant and tangible...its about the abstract notion of losing world powers to scary places like China and India

What gets me is that you really are too stupid to realise how see-through your propaganda has become. I never hope the mods ban someone, but in your case... I very much hope they do.

Which is why you should be pressuring Russia to end the war and pull out of Ukraine.

Or pushing for even more weapons supplies to Ukraine so they can push Russia out faster.

But we know that’s not what you want.

What did I say that is so controversial? My bills are triple, but the fact that companies may close or move out or the whole region will suffer for years because of one key resource is potentially more devastating with permanent job losses, quality off life degradation that is not transient. Having more totalitarian countries basically proving that the whole service/tech economy is only working only while raw resources and manufacturing is cheap is sobering and vicious.

I'm actually more worried about that as long term considerations considering how globalisation and economic theory seem to fail massively when shit his the fan.

Damn, you guys see a spin in anything.
