If you're playing the first game for the first time I wouldn't even recommend mods. Play it raw. But yeah I'd probably just play Stalker 2 at this point. If you're playing the first game to get hyped for the second you might as well just go with the 2nd and go back later. It can be a long game learning the mechanics and the suffering.

LMFAO is that really the play? Not a super fan of the series or is it more of a fresh eyes thing?

The game is just around the corner, i think the general sentiment here is to just jump in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. As the self-proclaimed biggest S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan on these forums, i can vouch for that. You can always go back later after you're done.

I am a super fan, and that's why I'm recommending you to go straight to 2. Stalker SoC came out in 2007 and it has gameplay (and graphics) to match that era. It was unforgiving back then, today as a fresh player it would probably feel downright esoteric. There are also issues with the engine that were only fixed in standalone mods.

Well I'll go straight to 2 still, but I don't mind more archaic or punishing gameplay. I'll give it a go after I beat the second if I'm not burned out.
