Santa Monica issuing evacuation order

I didn't know Californians felt that way. I thought he was a shoe-in for the Democratic party ticket in 2028. He's got that Presidential look.
not to get political but Newsom has no chance on the national stage. He did a debate with DeSantis after he flopped in his run. Everyone thought DeSantis would get his ass kicked but it was the opposite. It was obvious Newsom is a lightweight, he has been living his political life in game journalist mode where everything is set up for him to succeed with no competition in California. This is without even getting into his immutable characteristics which needless to say are not a selling point in this iteration of the Democratic Party. Yea he's handsome but that is literally it.

I would say he could have become a Senator or something but Adam Schiff took that job which will be for life. I really don't know where he goes from here but it's not to the White House.

Dude his recall win was called before the first polls closed.
the whole recall was a work. Newsom was in bad shape until the CA GOP decided to put in the absolute worst, most toxic, most abhorrent candidate out in front, and then all of the sudden Newsom cruised.

Newsom was always an evil Bruce Wayne who was dropped on his head too many times as a baby.

I lived in CA for 45 years. What he said has been said for decades. Even before Newsom. Gray Davis let San Diego burn twice in the early 2000s. It has nothing to do with Trump or your TDS. Sacramento starved Central and SoCal of water to save a tiny fish in the delta. The ash is on Newsom’s hands and he refuses to fix it. He should be prosecuted.
This is very true

Now when you drive by them on I5 they’re all dead with signs saying “Newsom’s dust bowl”.
Go back further and they said "Government Mandated Dust Bowl"

At what point do we just accept this is not a habitable part of the country anymore? This seems to be worse and worse every year. I imagine there’s probably going to be quite a massive migration out of cali after this settles. Between the fires and the inevitable massive earthquake, I just can’t fathom anyone with a choice wanting to live there.

Never underestimate the power of the establishment media spin, goldfish memory holes, and tribalism.

Truth. That said I don’t expect him to get the nod if they’re still 100% in on identity politics instead of actual competency. (He shouldn’t be their nominee either way but…)

News here said the Hollywood one is under control but I know there were several fires, are they over the worst of it now?

That would be great, I’d move there for cheap and all the crazies would be gone. It would be like the NeoGAF REEEE split.

He won’t, Newsom’s career is as done as Mayor Bass. I wouldn’t be surprised if more districts turned red in the midterms and went full red by 2028. No amount of lipstick can cover up billions of dollars of damages, thousands of homes and businesses lost, destruction of buildings of historic significance, etc. It would be hilariously easy to run against either of these clowns with the imagery of burning embers.

I’m a left leaning moderate, and California was the first state my husband and I ruled out when figuring out where we would plant roots. Bad policies are bad policies and like most people, I only care about outcomes, not feelings.

I'm in the middle of both major fires (Palisades and Eaton). We're currently in the "yellow" meaning we have an evacuation warning and the fire is very close. The fires have completely burned down homes of people I know.

We've got things packed in the car in case we need to go, but sadly there is no where to go. All family and friends are also being hit by different fires in their areas, we might have to head down to San Diego if necessary.

This is the worst natural disaster I've experienced in almost 40 years. On top of that, dealing with a sick 2 year old with pneumonia and elderly parents who aren't able to take care of themselves.

Praying things get better.

If you were wondering why the firefighters were ordered to protect the Getty museum over the residential homes nearby:

Ask me about my wife's perfect butthole
LAFD funding actually went up this year there’s a bunch of misinformation being spread about it. Really can’t think of any of the people talking about DEI actually had anything of merit to say that wasn’t full of disinformation.

edit: correction to this misinformation (by me from politico) below a few posts lol

You're letting your emotions you have for certain people get in the way of logic and reason. Come on, you're better than this, bro.

I think it’s quite logical to question the authenticity of someone’s statements about governmental cut backs, when the entire reason he’s in government is to make cutbacks. Of two trillion -

Sorry, one trillion. Hope people didn’t vote for him based on what he said during the election.

Sorry, one trillion. He got that wrong too.

There is tons of unnecessary spending that can be cut that won't impact what he is referring to. In fact, it could afford more usage in needed areas.

One example, Newsom was given $20B TWENTY BILLION of US taxpayer dollars to build water storage tanks. He never built them.... where is that money now? Where did it go? Where was it allocated to?

It's that type of oversight which is needed. Don't ne pedantic.

Cutting two trillion from a 6.75 trillion budget will go a lot further than cut unnecessary spending. That’s not the oversight anybody needs. Important things will get cut. That’s my issue with Musk’s bullshit on this. Bullshit that he’s already rowing back on, before even taking power.

It’s okay to be critical of Newsom’s running of California, and also accept that Musk has come out with some truly dumb shit that people really shouldn’t have eaten up quite so happily.

Dude, its a 6.75 TRILLION DOLLAR BUDGET. There are uncounted BILLIONS that just vanish. It's a MASSIVE siphon of wealth and has almost ZERO accountability once you get above a Army Private and his $700 helmet, fucking 1000% accountability of that thing while a trillion dollar infrastructure bill does nothing. Definitely some belt tightening could be going on.

Newsom sure isn't going to get the '28 Democratic nomination. He's as competent as Kamala is.
National Democrats don't like him and there isn't a chance in hell they will vote for him

He's literally been recalled twice in California, he has no hope at the national level

In a general sense, Californians hate the motherfucker but they have no choice there except the Democrats

California isn't much different from China in that regard now that I think about it. You only have one choice

No argument there. But two trillion, my dude. He claimed he could cut two trillion. It ain’t the concept, it’s the idiotic amount. People just automatically dick sucked Musk on this without actually considering what that level of cutting back would look like. That’s the part I have issues with. People need to be more bloody savvy and think a bit more - about anything these fuckers say, whether it’s Gavin Newsom or Elon Musk. Was the whole H1B debacle not enough to show people that blindly trusting/believing is a silly thing to do?

Hoped to cut 2 trillion and would settle for 1.

This is CLASSIC negotiation stuff, Trump does it all the time. How some folks fall for it, time and time again, as if there is no room to compromise between an ideal and reality, is beyond me. Saying "I think we should buy Greenland" or whatever is so obviously a 1000 meter target when a 100 meter one is the real goal yet the MSM goes nuts like he's about to deploy a carrier battle group to the island :p

Let's see how much they trim from defense spending. Musk is one of the largest recipients of subsidy.

I'll lower the stakes. Let's see if they just don't raise it massively for even 1 year.

Another real easy test. Let's see if they cut the corporate or high income tax rates. They're already quite low. You really can't fail either of these tests and be honestly about deficit management.

Real mystery which way this is going to go. No one could predict it.

Even easier test. Let's see how much Musk trims from just his own company's subsidies. Just literally his own personal corporate welfare amount.
