SFV R. Mika default costume was deemed too revealing by ESPN

It is illegal to Tag Fish in Tag Fishing Sanctuaries by law 38.36 of the GAF Wildlife Act
Be thankful that no one picked Laura.
All of Laura's costumes are straight up gross.

As a german I never understood America's need to censor sexual depiction or swearing in regular tv.....but depiction of violence was always okay.....so weird

Stuff like this bothers me

But lately I've learned there is no point in having an opinion like mine because apparently things like male gaze and sexy female character design isn't OK to enjoy so things like this are "good"

Both costumes are pretty terrible. They probably don't want to give people any reason to be embarrassed to watch it which is how I would think about it if I was at ESPN.

After seeing the story mode, Mika AND Cammy outfits were even more cringe worthy.

I take Laura default costume over those 2 everyday.

The real test will be to see if Mortal Kombat ever makes it ESPN broadcast while characters like Mika are still forced to cover up.

It was directed at the people who think that characters like R. Mika should be less attractive because it would give women an unrealistic standard of beauty or whatever. Well, that and video game characters being too sexy is supposed to be a bad thing in general.
That's fine too, right? People can have that opinion. 99,99% of female characters are still being designed to be as attractive as possible.

It's still unique to have a female character as different-looking as many male characters are. A female FANG or Bison, for instance. That diversity, would it ever happen, will never take away handsome female characters, just like there are still many handsome male characters.

Fitshaming is a silly concept regarding character design. It's only a thing with people IRL, and has a much different meaning/context there too.

I don't like how this bodes for future Street Fighter iterations and costumes.

I don't thinks you have anything to worry about given that this costume is the best selling DLC for SFV

Considering most people didn't even notice the change, no.

I would argue yes. Most people wouldn't have noticed it, but it'd just take a few people turning it into an issue at a grand stage like ESPN and EVO for it to becoming a hot topic.

If it's what sfv is then yes?

Her costume is nothing worse than stuff you'd see on TV shows

What are you protecting them from? Cleavage? And when does it become OK to show? You are always going to have a first time viewing for someone

I just don't see sfv top 8 on ESPN 2 drawing in many viewers period, let alone ones whoa aren't looking for it, but ok

You don't get it to draw viewers by showing that ridiculous costume on network cable. It had a pretty good slot, so I'm sure the viewer draw was pretty high.

You really think it leaves a positive first impression of the FGC for people? It makes the players seem like undersexed teenage fratboys.

Around here even having an anime avatar can be enough to have your opinion disregarded or lambasted and we're all deep into nerd culture in one way or another. No doubt it only gets worse the closer you get to the mainstream when it comes to female character design.

Gotta agree with this. Having Mika on TV is just embarrassing for the Fgc.

Not like anyone's gonna take them seriously anyway I guess.

Having sfv on ESPN is embarrassing because it's not a sport, costumes don't matter at that point

Also love the American mentality of "hey a game with people beating the shit out of each other, perfect for broadcast!"

But show some skin and that's over the line

Violence vs nudity, what a weird line to draw

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
I wonder what would have happened if she only had her default outfit, like would they ban her and Fuudo is not allowed to use her? would have been interesting to see.

We eSports now, we need more costumes to satisfy the conditions set by mass media. How long before they complain about the absurd breast size?

A handful of bad people in the fgc like Noel brown, aris baktanian and now hyuga are what leaves a bad impression

Not a skimpy outfit

yeah I know right. They don't practice and learn how to play against other people in a game of skill for hours. It's not Entertainment at all, which is what the E stands for in ESPN. People are going to come back at you with bowling and spelling bees and crap, but in the end it is entertainment. If there is a market for it, ESPN wants in it because they are an entertainment channel looking to expand their market share.

That's certainly a good way to make women with larger breasts feel like they're sexualized for existing.

It's bloodless, consensual, non-fatal violence. This is a very weak example of "lol America violence okay but skin bad".
