Shuhei Yoshida was forced to move to the indie sector

Yoshida says that when Jim Ryan offered him the job, “it was do this or leave the company”

Shuhei Yoshida is one of the most famous names at Sony, having led the company's main game studios for a long time. However, in 2019 the executive left the presidency of PlayStation Studios to lead the company's indie initiative.

Commenting on the matter now, Yoshida says he didn't have much choice in the matter. According to him, when CEO Jim Ryan presented this change, Yoshida could only accept or leave Sony.

Yoshida: Moving from first-party to indies? Well, I had no choice. When Jim asked me to do the indie job, the choice was to do that or leave the company. But I felt very strongly about the state of PlayStation and indies. I really wanted to do this. I believed I could do something unique for that purpose. That was the bigger change for me personally, moving from first-party to indies, than leaving the company this year. I’m very lucky that the indie community, the publishers and developers I work closely with–they believed that they could use my help. I became an adviser for some of these companies. I’m continuing to work with some of the indie publishers and developers I respect. The transition out of Sony to becoming an independent adviser is less of a change than moving out of first-party.

They really thought the live service games was going to change the company. That’s probably why they thought they didnt need him to help with the first party games anymore smh.
Change into what .... thats the question ... Nintendo is doing the same thing for years and years with minor tweaks and only grows stronger .. fanbase became something so easily discarded in the last 10 years for some reason for a lot of companies.

People have memory like a fish.
You read the posts in that thread and you will realize that nothing has changed regarding Sony first-party discussion in this forum.
"A little sparse this year"

Released one of the best games of all time with Bloodborne and a gem like Until Dawn. Better than any shit from Sony for the PS5 so far.

And that was a weak year

You definitely look at how Shuhei Yoshida had a lot of respect for Jim Ryan at the end of the day. Specifically calling him the last bastion of the old guard at PlayStation.
Ryan drove through a disastrous globalisation initiative and the biggest gutting of veteran staff of any CEO in the company's history.

But why was he forced? Just internal politics? Or did I miss something that happened back in the day? Weren’t the studios doing great under his watch?

Uh huh, I also think using 'globalization' when refering to a gaming company doesn't quite have the same impact as when using it for far worse and more important things.

This already had its roots back from 2005, it took major force in 2016, way before he was at the helm. Lol at 'disastrous', tho.
Globalisation officially started in late 2019, when SIEA and SIEE were combined. It resulted in a large number of unreported redundancies and a huge transfer of power to the US.

This never happened, I ASK you to process the information better next time.
I would sacrifice 3 Astro Bots for a sequel of Until Dawn of the same quality

And Ive enjoyed Astro Bot
And I would sacrifice 6 Bloodbornes just for a single new Boku no Natsuyasumi. But I'm not deluded enough to believe that it's something the vast majority of people would agree with, nor I would feel in the position to mock someone for saying that Bloodborne is better than Bokunatsu.
But anyway, saying its better than Bloodborne is some take
No, it really isn't, considering that Astro Bot had a better Metacritic score on BOTH critic reviews and user reviews.
What is certainly SOME take is implying that Until Dawn is better than Astro Bot in any sort of aspect.

This man should've been CEO instead of Ryan and for sure instead of Hulst. Ryan was just a suit (marketing/PR) so it's really no surprise he made the big GaaS push. Hulst is just a clown who DEI'd his way to the top by pallet-swapping a female protagonist onto Horizon. I still don't know how that guy got to be where he is considering Killzone (as good as it was, I am a fan) never topped any charts and the one Horizon game that sold very well was bundled to hell with PS4. I mean the FW sold less than half what ZD did so we can't say the guy is some visionary on the level of a Kojima or a Aonuma. His games were all mid.
