Sony announces PS4 Pro, $399, November 10th

Is 400 dollars a good price?

Seeing as how this is basically replacing the old PS4 at 399, it's... okay. A normal price for new consoles, but not by any means a "good" price. But not expensive either, just normal.

Apparently the old PS4 models (unsurprisingly) also get a permanent price drop, but I don't know the exact prices. I think I read 299 for PS4 Slim?

It was in the leak, we've known everything about this console since april.

That is so old. I would like to think Indie developers, and others not all will take advantage. Certification patches cost money for developer to do, so it's time and money do to this.

So let's see how many. But that list is official so far, so I dont see shadow warrior 2, gran turismo, titanfall 2, among others.

That list straight up looks like a list of what games showed up during the sizzle reel and the event (or was mentioned during the event). In fact, there's a very good chance that someone just transcribed what was shown during the event to compile that list.

Well the thing is this thing releases in November and you would have more publishers/developers putting out news with this reveal.

So if there are patches they are coming down the line not at launch with some of these games.

Other thread of PRO enabled titles currently

I mean I dont know it's just whats being reported so I could be way off the mark and all games post october will have Pro mode.

Watching Kinda Funny games, and it does looking at the low amount of games supporting this on launch that there was push back from developers in some form.

Colin was right.

You do realize that all of the games supported are literally all the games coming out in the near future right? All games on launch are mandated to have NEO mode from october onward, they cannot push back from that and say they aren't doing it.

Blu-ray sales accounted for about $6 billion in revenue last year so apparently some people still buy the things, ya goofs!

So what resolution is this thing upscaling from? 1440p?

Just watched the stream and they didn't get that detailed.

3200x1800 was the minimum resolution listed on the leaked slides so that's probably a good guess.

Like I said, that list comes from the IGN Wiki which is user edited, so someone transcribed what was shown/mentioned at the event. Hell, I can edit the page right now to include every game launching past October if you want.

So you're telling me that Polyphony Digital "pushed back" against the idea of making Gran Turismo with a Pro Mode because it's not on the list of games supporting it?

You REALLY think Gran Turismo won't support the Pro? lol...

Obviously this is not a complete list of games

I'm just saying though all games post October have to put in certification, doesn't mean they have to go all out. I believe guidlines say it has to be at least as good as OG ps4. Not every developer will make use of the Pro to where we can see a drastic difference.

Also Giant Bomb briefly brings up what this means in terms of work load for developers. They may be forced to have a PRO certification but, it doesn't mean it's a significant increase they are putting in.

They could give certification thats just HDR compatible and thats it with same resolution as standard PS4.

AC WiFi > 4K Blu-ray

gotta be able to stream that netflix's in 4K bruhs on my 150MBPS+ connection...

(not that they shouldn't have been able to include both, but if I HAD to choose one...)

My pre-orders for the Mafia III and Dishonored 2 collector's editions just had to take a bullet so I can get both the PSVR and PS4 Pro. Moment of silence please ;_;

Mafia 3.....I should slap you for cancelling that! Game looks amazing, soundtrack is already best of this generation according to the list!

Also to no surprise, its #1 seller on amazon.

Who knows maybe lack of console iterations will keep these things from being a bitch to pre-order. It's still clearly available on all sites

Same could not be said for OG PS4 that shit was selling out everywhere leading up to Christmas even when they restocked it lasted maybe 3 minutes.

As a PC gamer first and foremost I don't really give a shit about having all games running at 1080p. I care about having all the console exclusives I bought the system for running at 60 fps (or as close as possible) so that I get an experience closer to my PC games. I'm getting a major vibe here that Sony is giving way too much allowance to developers to decide how they want to use the extra power, which means they'll all just use it to add bullshit barely noticeable effects and continue to target 30fps. The Horizon Zero Dawn video was the worst-case-scenario; I barely noticed any added graphical fidelity, but what I did notice was the awful framerate. I think I'm going to have to accept that my priorities as a PC gamer are not in-line with the rest of the market for console sales. I'll wait and see what Horizon, Destiny, Bloodborne, Nioh, and a few other games do with Pro and then decide whether to upgrade.

Pre-order placed! The $399 price is actually lower than I was expecting, and with one exception everything else is exactly what I was hoping for. HDR and wide color gamut are a big deal and it sounds like developers are exploring those options at least as much as they're investing in higher resolutions.

Relative to my predictions? The Cerny talk about the advances in modern displays is entirely what I had in mind. The $299 slim matched my prediction, and the $399 Pro undercut my guess by a full $100. I can only assume we got exactly the leaked specifications with Sony betting on a one-year lead being more important than the spec war.

The price is also what surprised me. I was braced for £400 - £450 in the UK so to see it at £350 was a pleasant surprise.

When they said 1 TB i expected $450. (granted i expected a 4k blu ray player, but still). $399 is a good price to aim for, no console more expensive than that has ever succeeded.

You know what's interesting?

Most reasonable expectations were pretty much spot on as to what the Neo would be and what purpose it would serve for Sony.

Hell, we even got the Fiscal Reports indicating how much Sony expects this thing to sell (only about 1 to 2 million at most until March 2017).

And it still surprises me that so many people are shocked that this "premium" system is not for them.

Personally I think they will sell much more than 2 million. There's 5 months until the end of march, counting black friday and christmas.

People are disappointed because we had a crazy 10.000+ posts thread where people speculated that Neo would cure cancer. Barring the omission of the 4K BD player this system is a great proposition.

And if Sony/developers play their cards right it can be a meaningful upgrade even to 1080p owners.

Did you put "premium" in quotes to indicate sarcasm? Because it's not premium, and that's exactly what people are disappointed about. By Sony's own admission the target audience for this device should be gaming enthusiasts / techies with extra money to spend, and most of that audience knows enough about hardware to not be impressed by the idea of upscaled games that still target 30fps. Most of that audience probably already has decent gaming rigs that will always look better than whatever fidelity the PS4 Pro is able to achieve. I guess the target audience now is people who are excited to spend $400 to play a game at 25fps that looks slightly closer to the PC port.

Are there comparisons of games between the two systems?
That is really my doubt, how the devs are going to use the power.

The only reasonable expectation it didn't meet was as a UHD Bluray player...

That would have been the primary selling point for me.

I will buy a UHD player, I was hoping I could buy one that also gave me access to Sony Exclusives.

Money on the table, Sony.

Price gap between the two is smaller than I thought it'd be (more so the old/slim PS4 didn't go as low as I'd hoped).

Guess I'm getting a Pro for Yakuza, Ace 7, and what not.

Hurry up & announce KOF XIV for Steam, SNK. I don't mind paying for extra power, but I'm loath to pay to play (likely just this one game) online.

No, it was always said it was supposed to be an option for those inside the PS4 ecosystem looking for a bit more power. I mocked the premium label because you guys took it out of proportion to mean anything you wanted it to, and then got mad when you assumed wrong.

Good god that thing's hideous.
It's basically 2 PS4s stacked on top of one another, like a joke mock-up some kid made in Photoshop to post on the internet.
Is this real life? Holy shit! lmao

I don't think it's fair to mock people for taking it to "mean anything you wanted it to" when your own explanation of what what it was supposed to be is the extremely vague "a bit more power". That power could have been used in numerous different ways, and as it turns out they're using it to promote 4k TVs and push higher graphics fidelity rather than focusing on consistent framerate improvements at current fidelity. I was hoping that they would use that power to make my favorite console games run better/faster, so I'm disappointed for sure, but really I'm more baffled by how they'll market this in a way thats appealing to the people who have the money to buy it.

"Your console games will look and run better on PS4 Pro."

There, marketing complete.

People are pre-ordering as we speak, myself included :3

I put premium in quotes because that's how it's been referred to by some (and I agree, in comparison to the OG PS4 but not necessarily standalone vs PC).

And I'm sorry but what?

I'm a gaming tech enthusiast and someone with a powerful PC. And this appeals to me inn so many ways.

It's not merely games 30 FPS upscaled. It's also games downscaled from higher resolutions to provide great image quality (this is the big one for me as an also PC gamer).

It servers as an upgrade point for those who prefer consoles but would like all their games (multiplatform included) to be closer to the PC version rather then falling behind over time.

You seem to have missed what it's intended purpose is just because your not the one being targeted.

Honestly don't get the hate for these new designs, or people that think the original PS4 is ugly... These consoles are sleek as fuck, all of them. I have absolutely no issue with their aesthetic. It's simple, clean, compact. Not sure what people want. The PS3 (all iterations) is the only console that's been a bit of a dud design wise, impractical curved top shape and incoherent design language. I love the clean lines of the PS2 AND PS4, all iterations of it. just dont get people mocking it.. not sure what you're mocking.

That's a $75 dollar drop for the PS4 in about a month. They were going for $200 at Gamestop.

The Slim being available so soon pretty much killed the OG's value. That's why I was hoping Neo would be a September/October release because I'm really not trying to be without a PS4 for 2 months.

Reminds of Sony's last big marketing push

"Infinite variation"
"Every atom procedural"
"Every planet unique"
Pin that hyperbole and deception on Sean Murray.

Mark Cerny is a well known and respected professional in the industry and the message he laid out was simple: your games will look and run better on PS4 Pro.

Those who care enough about this will drop their cash for that extra performance.

Considering the product comes in two months, it has to already be in production by now.

I mean, you can't firmware update to boost the GPU clock or anything. It's in production, and likely has been for a couple of months. A friend on FB is telling me that they could update the system to get better performance next yr to counter Scorpio, but I've never heard of a GPU getting a boost via firmware.
