Other than the fact that it is slimmer than the standard model, what else is needed?
But you'll need to format it first, or can you really just take your HDD straight from your normal PS4?
It is possible, but it will require you to format the harddrive. You need a backup of your original PS4 to install it on a new system

It'll be painful to wait for the December's tax returns to be able to buy the Pro. Oh well, at least the rumors about October release turned out to be false.

I bet it will be 449€ in Finland, just like PS4 and PS3 had an added 50€ to their initial prices. Damn Nordisk Film, and their monopoly in Scandinavia.
EDIT: Just checked a local retailer, and it's 429,90€ here, so it's a bit better than I thought.
hmm well, I was thinking of selling my ps4 and get one but and do need to get a 4k tv too, just for horizon zero dawn better graphic.... I might pass now

Personally, I think Sony killed it, $399 machine, almost immediately available - sales will hit this holiday, lots of content... The only think I'm mildly disappointed at is the controller is the same.

Huge disappointment feature wise and spec wise for sure. Same horrible cpu and no UHD? Feels like they're rushing the Pro out because PSVR is probably a very poor experience on the current model in comparison.
Glad I picked up a Xbox One S. Only way I would have considered the Pro at this point is if I didn't own a PS4 yet. Just going to stick with the current PS4 and grab a Scorpio next year.

Of course the PS4 slim isn't selling right now, it only exists at 299 to make the Pro more attractive. Everyone who wants a regular PS4 is just buying the regular one at ~200 ( there was a deal like that in Germany yesterday). It'll probably get discounted to 249 for christmas and 199 within the year and sell a ton at those price points tho.

You've seen the difference in performance between both systems running PSVR? No way they are even close. When people see the difference between PS4 VR and the PC experience it's going to be especially obvious. Sony needed better hardware for PSVR if they wanted to release this year definitely. Not that the experience is necessarily horrible on the standard PS4. Just horrible in comparison due to hardware limitations.

What does that have to do with anything? Maybe in the process of the VR project they decided they needed a better device to go along with it if they wanted to truly compete with the competition? They're releasing close together also.

I got a 4k TV before HDR was really a "thing" (if it is even a thing now), so I'm guessing that the PS4 Pro would just treat my TV like an upscaled 1080p TV? Anyone have any idea?

Expect it to pass a 1080p signal unless your monitor has a way to pretend it's 4K. I don't think Sony has any history of supporting PC monitor resolutions so it's probably just looking for 1080p and 4k, and if it doesn't see 4k you get the other one.
Best guess: As long as your HDMI port can pass a real 4K signal I'd think you'd be able to play games in 4K. But if it's old enough to only pass 4k30 then you'd be framerate restricted, I suppose. HDR changes the color display but isn't adding pixels or anything.

Every demo we've seen so far, including the Best Buy Kiosks, has been on the old PS4 hardware.

And if they wanted to compete with other VR vendors they needed new hardware. What's so crazy about that? Being so defensive over a console isn't a good look yo.
