Well, there's still the classic "What is moé?"

And of course, the ubiquitous "Is ____ a loli?"

Or if you really want to get things going you could always go for the "Style is substance" card. That's at least a couple of pages right there.
Is anime dead/why is Japan so creepy? seems to work too.

In all honestly, though, I feel like I'm in the minority for not caring as much about less-detailed animation as long as the plot is solid.
You're not the only one. I'm cool with stick figures on a flip book if it's actually well written.

It's too bad Arata vs. Taichi fizzled out due to the second half of the show, that could've been a breadwinner for several more weeks. Imagine if it had ended with a cryptic ending - you see someone's legs, standing before a window, and through that window, this figure, whose face you cannot see, is watching his rival (again, indistinct) make love to Chihaya.
We all know that it would be
Kana doing Chihaya
anyway.

That's all fine and dandy but...

Toei Kanon.

I am ok with this.

Now and Then, Here and There 3

Liked this ep more than the first two even if Shu getting the shit knocked out of him is becoming comical. I'm growing more curious as to what sort of thing would bind loyalty to someone like Hamdo as it seems the first to plant a knife in his back would be a hero. There's other questions I'm actually curious about now regarding the actual history of Hellywood or why it's necessary to militarize everyone including children.

Stuff like the aforementioned abuse of Shu, the dead cat from the previous episode, and Sara's apparent rape strike me as cheap shock value though.

NTHT is an acquired taste.

I am personally a little disappointed with it myself. He's tried a lot harder before.

Well the problem with establishing a troll persona is it always becomes Flanderized after a certain point in time. Like when firehawk said he always skipped action scenes.

Haruhi S1 loses all sense of dramatic flow by watching it chronologically, even if the resolution is as cliché as it could get.

So you're saying that the original source material is so weak that the only way to spice it up is to mess with the chronology?

I think people remember it more for the order it aired in than the actual content of the show anyway.

Same with Endless Eight and S2, really.

Even though I think quality animation is genuinely a important thing in anime. I think good enough writing can overcome "average" animation quality in cases of Crest of the stars and Spice and wolf but it's not something that happens regularly at all (or should at all), since most anime writing sucks anyway.:)

Hey, be fair, non-chronological storytelling is a perfectly valid technique. In this case it's just limited to the ordering of episodes rather than being hard-edited into the episodes themselves.

Genre type matters here too. I can live without good animation in my comedies, but my standards for an action show are completely different.

I have to admit I'm not familiar with the lingo. What's a "magical girlfriend"?

You know, they're similar to exotic girlfriends, but they have extra powers. They'll usually trump the girl-next-door in a head-to-head fight, as we've all seen recently.

This is a fair and reasonable opinion.

That's also true, I don't think Birdy the Mighty would be a good show if the fight scenes were just slideshows.

I am not disparaging the use of non-chronological storytelling as a cheap gimmick used to get people's attention, I was merely referring to the quality of the original source material.

Yeah, that's more what I was trying to go for. Can't even state my own opinions correctly anymore...
