The game feels much better in the 60fps performance mode vs the 40fps 120fps mode despite the loss of image quality.

I think different areas probably show the quality drop more than others. I tried flicking between the modes right at the beginning and couldn't see much change - if anything. But on arriving to the first planet, I could see the resolution was lower for the first time - no idea if the resolution is dynamic in particular areas, but I didn't notice it before.

I also knocked down all the motion blur to zero, it's quite aggressive to my eye.

I'm gonna try to make the HDR acceptable by lowering TV brightness, but it probably won't be good. So frustrating that devs still mess up HDR. Wasn't Division 2 fine?

Yeah, I couldn't get the HDR to sit right, I noticed that some blacks were grey in places which prompted me to mess with it, but the darkest panel on the calibration screen is way too dark on my tv. If I pump the levels up enough, everything is blown out.

OMFG, I just hate this shit so much because when you have a banging ass HDR TV and the implementation is great.....it's amazing.

Yeah, I can't help but think they'll ship some sort of patch for it, I think from a player's point of view you'd assume it would be something that they'd just set and forget and it'd just work.

I guess, it's more complicated than that.

The animation in this game is shit tier omg…

Didn't even notice.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but more and more I think that the difference between a terrible game and an enjoyable one is the wave of sentiment that accompanies it.

If you're on console you're at the mercy of the devs to fix it. If you're on PC you can try using reshade to lower the floor but I don't know if there's any side effects in doing that. I think we're in a much better place in 2024 regarding HDR (much more games have good to great implementations) but every now and then a dev fuck up and it's so frustrating. Hopefully Massive will look into it because black level floor is not raised in SDR so it just seems like something they overlooked.

agreed...

critiquing a game involves remaining at a remove, & constantly looking at what's there from the outside. while playing a game involves shutting everything else out, & getting involved in what's going on. higher sensitivity to graphical/technical 'imperfections' therefore results in more shifting from playing mode to critiquing mode, which results in a paradigm where, basically, personal ignorance of the majority of the multiple graphical/technical 'imperfections' of almost any given game can often result in personal bliss...

&, to the extent we're just talking about something as relatively unimportant as a bunch of dumb video games here, where's the harm in that?...

Check cleared. David Jaffe now loves this game and calls it his GOTY after quitting it after 3 hours.
I don't know about all that Jaffe stuff, but I posted earlier in the thread that I was doing the same, and I did - dropped it after about three hours because of the instant fail stealth stuff. When they released the patch I tried it again - not sure what they changed, but it's really clicked this time and I'm having an absolute blast. I'm not sure it's what they changed; I think I just figured out how to play it better. Think I'll be buying the season pass now. I don't do all the 'my GOTY' hyperbole stuff, so don't know if I would say that.

Not aiming this part of the comment at you Gamer_By_Proxy, despite me quoting you, because I don't know your story, but gamers today are way too invested in seeing things fail. This seems like a decent game to me - and I'm not even a Star Wars fan. It has great atmosphere and does really well at making you feel a part of that world.

I just thought the Jaffe turnaround was funny. It was almost like, as soon as he got to one hard stage in Astro Bot, he went right back to Outlaws and it was his GOTY from then on. I'm not some blind hater or Ubi hater. I'm still considering getting this and Avatar when they're cheap.
The star wars game I've been liking the most lately is the tales from the galaxies edge VR game.

I don't even know if they make Colt 45 malt liquor anymore.

Well, I found a $4 discount on the season pass. The discounts have been crappy on it.

Just finished, took about 35 hours. Eh, mediocre in most areas, protagonist is bland and ugly (which was actually quite distracting cause I kept laughing thinking how someone must have been tasked with making her look this bad). Ship fighting was terrible. Thank goodness the pro patch came out cause I would have dropped it otherwise given how low res it first appeared. Overall, 6.5 out of 10.

I decided to get this game on sale(PC). I am not a Star Wars fan, but you know what? This game is pretty damn decent. Yes, yes the main character is not a looker. Kinda fits the game. She COULD look a bit better but it is a non-issue. Ive been several hours in and have done a bit of space travel.

I don't really like the space combat, but love the transition from leaving the planet and heading into space and vise versa.

The game is super immersive, and that is what I really like about it more than anything else.

This game I think has been the victim of some truly unfair public sentiment.

I’m 20 hours in and I agree, the facial animations in most cutscenes are garbanzo dookie butter.

But that and a few other glaring bugs, are really the only true major gripes I have with this thing. I put down Indiana jones and persona 3 R once I started this and haven’t put it down.

You have probably the best looking and best executed open zone Star Wars game since swtor and kotor. It’s a Ubisoft game but one that respects location and the original trilogy. Outside of jabbas palace and Lando, this game doesn’t beat you over the head with trilogy characters.

Also I’m playing on PC and I can’t imagine how much worse the console ports are, but this with a good card is a great looking game.

Audio design, immersion, believable Star Wars world, and pretty simple but fun stealth. Massive really dropped the ball on launch with the auto fail and save file issues.

I think without those mistakes and without Ubisoft being who they are right now, this game would be seen in far far better light.

I think if massive could do a sequel with Coruscant, Nar Shadaa and cloud city, just to name a few planets, deeper stealth mechanics and more fleshed out vehicle play, this would be a near perfect Star Wars scoundrel game.

Also I know the writing is meh at best. So that’s another detractor but I don’t completely despise it

Just finished the main story, did some syndicate stuff and extras. Not a bad game, I'd give it a 7.5 or 8. Kept me interested, and that is saying a lot for games these days. Doesn't deserve the hate, but it definitely isn't an AAAA game as far as quality. I dunno what the hell that would even be.
