Here's a video of me against an Arakune...did I do something horribly wrong the first round or something? I have no fucking clue how to hit the ground after he gets that shit started.
I have no idea how you beat that Arakune because he looked 100x more adept at offense than you haha.

Regardless, when you're in the air, the bug that shoots out from behind you is unblockable unless you barrier or instant block it. If he gets you in the corner like that, the only way you can win is to IB and sledge the next "spit" assuming the dropping bee bug isn't on top of you.

I got really lucky when I nipped him with the distortion, haha.

Here's a WAY worse one. I can atleast see a lot more of my mistakes here(barrier blocking is the worst offender, I don't do it nearly enough in general). I mainly need help with what happens the third round here. Arakune's overhead cloud always stops me dead in my tracks, I'm never really sure what to do against it since 2C and AC both have him hit the cloud. Also WTF at the ending, I guess I did it too early?

I really struggle with the Arakune and Carl matchups in general I guess. On the Carl side it seems really hard to do much to him even if they don't know the trap, he seems to just beat so many attacks and a lot of Tager's normal combos just miss, I'm assuming there's Carl specific stuff I just need to learn.

Struggling in those matchups isn't so much you as how lopsided those matches are for Tager, they are both very very heavily in the other character's favor (usually rated as 8-2). Vs Arakune you pretty much A) Have to never get cursed or B) Arakune gets the overhead cloud so you can guard your way to an empty curse meter. As a Tager player, I absolutely dread fighting those two in tournaments, I'd rather fight Nu Rachel or Jin, even though all three of those matches are really bad as well. At least versus those three, I can be better enough to win.

If overhead cloud is on you, you pretty much just have to block and wait until you can do a perfectly timed 2A or backdash -> throw as an anti-air, or get lucky with some random hit. Spinny super is also an option if they love being in the air.

Is Carl an even worse matchup than Arakune? It seems like it. I've been fighting Shotalover on XBL a lot and it's crazy hard, he never even does the claploop and he usually beats me.

Yes its bad without the clap loop (assuming he can do general combos), but with clap loop your lifebar is meaningless, you get hit twice, you lose. If he sandwiches you, generally you can attack him right before a Nirvana attack will hit you (depending on the situation, you might have to instant block). Save spark bolt for combos or getting a killing blow on Nirvana, it's pretty useless to blow it unless you're absolutely sure it will hit him.

I know this sounds strange, but in the Carl matchup, you want to zone him, until you connect with a hit, then go all out with offensive. Be defensive until you gain momentum.

How are you supposed to start out on ones who DO know the clap loop, though? I fought a few carl players who literally would jump back and use nirvana as cover and just wait. The moment I got close they went right for it, even if I block it I'm sandwiched in and need to burst, then it's pretty hard to fight the rest of it without making a mistake.

I'll try some of that out, but it's really hard to do it properly. Sparkbolt in particular is hard to land on him, also doesn't help that Nirvana eats it for him. :\

Why do you think the match is favored 8-2 in carl's favor? You really can't do much but hope he makes a mistake.

For the record, any match that's 8-2 in matchup charts is basically considered winnable through "other player hands you a mistake on a silver platter" or "you do the riskiest thing possible to outguess them and ride that to a victory".

Rather the latter since #1 isn't what great players do and the whole tier lists are exclusively pulled from high level gameplay.

Mistake can be tiny, even the best players make the tiniest mistakes, otherwise they would never lose. I'm not saying the best Jin will just do a random ass DP, more like he will mistime a j.B giving you enough time to 720 his jD crossup IF it happens. Even the best players fuck up instant blocking, or maybe they do Barrier Block, and hit A~B mistiming it by a frame, giving you exactly one frame to get a CH combo. Things like this happen.

I haven't played this in a log time. We need to get some games going. I'm willing to host a 360 room. Fuck lag, fuck skills. Just come and mash buttons and see shit happen on the screen and have some fun. Anybody up?

I'm sure Dragon loves this. The power of science is awesome until people catch on. :lol
LAAAAAAAAAAAME! :lol

I hate you :( It's sad that I now have a better chance of beating your Tager with Litchi instead of Hakumen. Gotta practice Litchi some more :p I can never seem to do the combo everyone and their grandma does with her on Ranked, though =/

Also: holy shit at that Arakune video  That first round was...awesome!

EDIT: I read the last page or so and just want to chime in that I still play the game. Maybe not as much as I used to, but I still get on once in a while if I see Papercuts on or something. He's really the only one I like playing 1-on-1, though, since I usually prefer at least three people in a room.

We should make a room with four/five people--the sweet spot. Papercuts should host, though, and tell me if it the plan comes to fruition :p I usually leave the computer off these days and stay connected to LIVE (I use a modem) so I'd miss new posts.

Get to work, Papercuts, and get people together for a room :p

I think Hakumen is actually Tager's best matchup...though that isn't saying much. :lol

I think I had more trouble with your Jin overall, mainly because I hate fighting him usually.

I beat arcade mode twice this weekend, rock on !

So far it seems I'm best with Ragna and the booby-lady. (that was hilarious btw when I first heard the kitty say stuff like that, who thinks of these things ? :lol )

This would be the greatest game ever if it let you save replays of dropped matches. I can't believe I just fought a pretty meh Hakumen that was around level 34 that had a 100% win rate...name wasn't red but he ended up dropping at the victory screen. Would have loved to keep that one.

Just wondering, but in what way was he meh?

I know I juxtapose every other Tager to yours :p

He just didn't know any of his combos, basically did the basic C attack and other long range hard hitting attacks and when he got up close he was REALLY throw happy. Basically all stuff even I could do with him without even knowing his moveset.

For the record he beat me like 5-4 in the set or something, I just thought that specific round was really funny. He wins a lot of the tournaments in the area.

I have a million 720 gimmicks and that is by far my favorite (and the hypest). Nothing more satisfying than making a small crowd flip out, and then make them flip out harder 2 seconds later.

Sucks that I can't get above 3rd place with this shitty character :(

Pssh, I've had to abandon Nu as my main seeing as how every player I've ran into has developed a seething hate for her and their unchecked rage drives them to play against Nu with the fury of a thousand hyenas.

Noel is my girl now. I eagerly await her buff.

Haha, that's hilarious. I do the same thing! I normally don't use the clap loop until round 2 or 3, but the moment I'm facing against a Nu, I go balls out from the get-go. :lol

That would be auto-rage for me.

Anyway, Draevus... Haven't seen you in a while. In fact, where'd all the PSN gaffers go? The chat is almost always empty.

I personally can't wait for her Drive nerf.
If anything they need to make her initial drive moves faster. Noel is right behind Ragna as the most predictable character in the game. If Jin is going to be more mobile, at least give Noel the edge in speed.

I've been playing other games a bit lately or watching TV. :(

I got a PS3 Slim almost a month ago, and I'm wondering is the PS3 version of this game good? I don't have a 360 and probably will never buy one, so this is my only option anyhow.

I know me and my bro will play it together =D

There are no differences between the PS3 and 360 versions (either one is fine, but more people owning it on PS3 has led to more people being on PSN, for the most part).
