The BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Official Thread [360/PS3] - Be Ready for the Rebel

There are a variety of options.

1) have it be a forced patch but only let you use the new content if you pay for it.
2) make it a free mandatory patch.
3) put a flag in it that only BBCT can connect to BBCT and BBCS to BBCS so anyone who wants to stick to CT can and those who paid for CS can.
4) some weird combination of the above.

I'm not saying ASW won't put out another disc for it (which I would begrudgingly pay for if it were the only option...) but they could also do a DLC + disc release like Koei did for the Xtreme Legends expansions. This isn't the PS2/Wii where people wouldn't have a HDD to install any updates to.

If the only addition to BB was new characters, that first option would be fine. But it'd be hard to implement that strategy with the new moves for the original 12 characters and a new HUD with revamped Guard Libra bar.

If were just new characters, then maybe it'd be DLC.

But it sounds like they're tweaking the entire game, which is why I doubt it would be (can you imagine the weirdness fighting characters from different versions of the game?) Even though NTSC people may have to rebuy, they're adding a heap, so nyeh.

Not only did I say I don't have xbl, but I'm not a junior. Am I misunderstanding you?

I forgot you only had the PS3 version, and I meant junior as in "fresh to the game". Most people here already have hundreds of matches under their belts.

Best case for me would be if they add another option like they have for Arcade and Console already. Pay for the DLC, flip that option on if you wanna play Arcade style, Original Console or Continuum Shift. Having all the different types always available would be awesome. Then you could still play with people who only have the original online.

Yep, that would be the most reasonable thing.

You guys are delusional. This is an arcade game announcement--nothing from this game will see console for at least a year (meaning Christmas 2010, earliest). No DLC, no extra characters, no nothing. ESPECIALLY not on the European version. I guarantee it will be exactly the same as the US/JP versions.

The whole purpose of this game (and other arcade games) is to support Japanese arcades. For arcade games, consoles are intentionally disregarded until later to support the Japanese arcade industry. I know this is hard for a lot of you guys to understand, but you rose-tinted glasses wearing fellows expecting $10 DLC are not the target audience for this game nor for the announcement.

So that press release where they said the upcoming PAL version would have new characters was a lie?

Dude, what if the "new characters" are just more unlimited versions of the existing roster.
Like Tager with infinite spark and an aerial 720 or something.

BE SURE TO POST ON THE BLOG THE MOMENT YOU GET INFO ON BEING ABLE TO ORDER THE UPDATE!!!

Not trying to suck up, but UFO and Fry's are the only excuse I need to drive up from San Antonio. That's dedication to arcade "lifestyles", when you drive 90+ minutes each way just to play some games that you actually own on the console!

I know the past has been arcade upgrades that translate into new discs, and I have no clue if they're gunna do it with BlazBlue, but it seems like DLC is the perfect fit for that sort of thing today. You had to release new discs in the past, but if, for example, the ton of Guilty Gear XX updates could've been DLC downloads, that woulda been awesome.

It's something that I think fighting games should do, turn those arcade updates into DLC content. Whether or not they do, or what game will do it first, who knows

I only own a 360. I just don't pay for xbl because it's a rip off. I bought a 3 month card for sf4, which I loved a lot, but it's not really worth that much per month.

Tager with infinite spark is not a new character. :p

Even though it didn't even take CT anywhere near that long to make the transition from arcades to consoles (six months compared with your prediction of a fifteen month wait for an expansion)? If the EU version will supposedly be exactly the same, then it certainly wouldn't explain the publisher's mention of new moves and additional characters, as already pointed out.

- Calamity Trigger from Arcade to console was 7 months (released November 19, 2008, console release June 25, 2009).

- Continuum Shift will realistically be released for Japanese arcades in December 2009.

- If we stick with 7 months, that means late July/early August would be the earliest we'd see any Continuum Shift material for console whether it be DLC or a new retail disc. I wouldn't count on it being DLC, though.

So now that we're done throwing around technicalities,

The publisher mentioned "new moves" and "additional characters" for the EU version. Allow me translate that from marketing speak to layman's terms:

"New Moves" = Another Astral Finish or taunt animation
"Additional Characters" = Playable Boss Ragna/Boss Rachel or Sol Badguy added for lulz

To further clarify, the European version will NOT have any Continuum Shift material at all. No console versions will get Continuum Shift DLC, including the new characters (Tsubaki and 3 more to be revealed), new backgrounds, or new moves/balance changes.

Yes, BlazBlue might get some DLC in its current state but it will not be Continuum Shift material. Continuum Shift is an arcade game for Japanese arcades and Summer 2010 would be the earliest possible time to see it for consoles in any form, but probably later than that.

I was mistaken regarding the gap, it was indeed seven months as opposed to six. However...

So the publisher's claims of content not seen in any other console release automatically = marketing speak? And since when do new taunts of all things count as new moves?

FYI, "Boss Ragna" and "Boss Rachel" are already playable in the NA and JP versions (that's what their Unlimited forms are).

To further clarify, the European version will NOT have any Continuum Shift material at all. No console versions will get Continuum Shift DLC, including the new characters (Tsubaki and 3 more to be revealed), new backgrounds, or new moves/balance changes.

And the reason you're so sure of this is...? Serious question, BTW. I'm just curious as to why you're so positive of exactly what the EU release will entail when you were unclear on what was already in previous versions (that includes how many other characters actually remain to be revealed for CS beyond speculation or hearsay). I could just as well point out that the EU version isn't scheduled to release with the Calamity Trigger subtitle.

I think I like the old UI better. Tsubaki looks cool though, as does the new stage.

^I wish the characters on my PS3 version were as smooth as that!

Judging by those screens with the completely new UI, I am betting on it being an entirely new disc.

a.)It would seem so

and b.) Pretty sure they were always blue, even if they're a little freaky and glow-y now.

HUD isn't finalized yet (no names, no portraits, "Barrier" spelled wrong).

Her eyes look a bit lighter in the portrait, but her hair looks a bit darker as well.

When is the Euro version coming out anyway?

Q1 2010, IIRC (no idea what's actually in it).

I think the names/character art are out because the shots were taken in Debug mode.

Not a fan of the new UI though, loved the craziness of bars up the wazoo with crazy graphics and art all over the place from the original release.

It's probably an early version; they'll add the portraits and names later.

I bet that this upgrade won't be DLC. They'll find a way to justify putting this on another disc like the many GG upgrades.

Umm, those GGX games were on DC, PS2, GC etc. Did they have a choice whether to make them DLC or not?

Sol Badguy ignites my manly spirit.

edit: Oh yeah, another screenshot.

114arc_BBCS.jpg

you can see they've lazily censored out a character's name and visage, but if one looks closer you can see a kind of sickly green glow around the dude's attacks. :0

it's probably
Terumi

Honestly, that's irrelevant. You really think they're gonna make a brand-new game, with new characters, new backgrounds, new art, new music, and new moves and then make it DLC? There too much opportunity to make this a stand-alone product.

$39.99. wait and see.

OK what does this mean for the PAL version

We know currently the PAL version of BlazBlue is headed for early 2010, it would be stupid to release an old version of the game when the new one is already announced. So what I'm saying is can we PAL gamers expect to get the new version.

Woot! Valkenhayn would complete the awesomeness.

Yay, Tsubaki!!!! My anticipated new main is coming along decent enough. :)

Glad they decided to keep her looks modest. There's enough fanservice already. The only thing I didn't really like was the fact that the girl does look a little bit 'enhanced' when compared to the school uniform portrait. Hopefully that's just me though, or there is some armor/bullet vest underneath (I'll pretend this is so) and I really hope there is no ridiculous bouncing, please Aksys.

My last concern is that her nice character personality would change. Please, no insane Tsubaki. Maybe an emotional one torn between duty and friendship, but no female version of Jin.

As it stands right now, I approve. Her weapon looks real unique and interesting. That should make for a fun playstyle. I'm really looking forward to the update. Hopefully they'll be a disc version as I'd like to easily pick up the PS3 game than hunt for an old copy later. My Xbox Live account is almost expired and I have no plans to renew it. I also lack a hard drive for the thing since I bought the Arcade.
