The BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Official Thread [360/PS3] - Be Ready for the Rebel

I hope there will be more players online tonight with people getting their copies today. I had to cut my gaming short last night as there was hardly anyone online...

Chances are: Very likely.

But then again, this may be people's first go around. Need to play and learn the game basics at least. That's what I'll be doing today.

Chances are: Many people will pick Ragna and try to play this game as a Street Fighter title. Oh man, I'd give anything to see their faces when they realize that shoryukens don't work that well in this game :lol

I can see these players already stopping after they face a good V-13.

Local BlazBlue tourney next week on the 11th
Might go for the lulz/beatdown.

edit: Say, Urban Scholar are you going to Yasumicon?

hmm, normally I'd say no but because of the BB tourney, sure what the hell. Depends if I'm not working that day or having exams creeping on me. I'll let you know

EDIT: thinking of making Jin and or Ragna as my main to get familiar with the game and practice with my stick. I haven't decided yet on one and time is ticking when I get out of school to pick it up.

Wow. They really should turn this into an anime. I'd watch it.

I remember they did something with Guilty Gear where it looked like it was some anime special (Think it was Reloaded). Damn shame nothing came of it.

I'm new to the series. And, generally, new to fighters. How "friendly" is this game to me?

I've been playing SF4 for a little awhile... and I'd say I'm decent. But, for argument's sake, let's say I'm new.

oh shit! my local gamestop has them in! I asked the girl if they only have enough to cover preorders, and she said they have just a few extra. go go go!

Hrm. Don't go in thinking with a "Street Fighter" mentality with this game. Should look at some of the videos out there. It'll give you a good idea of what you'll be getting into.

wacky characters, flashy effects, easily to under and more to master system. If you're new relatively speaking(like me), enjoy the ride of casual matches. The majority of us out there aren't evo/shoryuken pros anyway. Pick one person and go for the fun :D

Are you talking about the little GGX movie that's been on every X2 game?

Yeah, I'll be pelvis deep in training mode for a bit tonight.

I've watched plenty of videos, but, being new to the series, I really don't know what I'm watching. I love the art and the characters and the music... not an issue... it's really the *system* that intrigues me the most. How different is it from SF4's (or SF in general)? Is the learning curve large (or... similar to most Fighters)?

Well. Hrm. I'd say the learning curve is steeper than other fighters. It's no bread and butter mechanics. The LE is suppose to come with a dvd/blu ray with tips of how to play the game from the people over at Dustloop.

It's worlds different from Street Fighter. As with all ASW games, there's a bit of a learning curve, but it's easier than Guilty Gear or Hokuto no Ken. It's more casual-oriented, but capable of expert play:

As if my questions weren't obvious enough... I'm really thinking of picking this up today. My real concern, however, is online play and how well it plays over both 360 and PS3. I don't have friends to play this with, nor do I have a local arcade that allows me to "test my skills." So, my only chance of truly enjoying this game is through online modes.

Have there been reports (early) about what online play is like over 360 and PS3? My experience with SF4 over PS3 has been... very spotty and generally a chore. As of now, I'd choose PS3 because it's currently the only system I'm running an arcade stick with. Too early to talk about online experiences?

Lots of people have been reporting that the online play is fantastic so far. Probably the best outside of SSFIIHDR.

I think you'll be able to try all the characters in this game because there are a little less than half the amount SFIV has and they're all available from the start.

The flash is definitely there. And hey, playing against good competition is also fun; win or lose, u know??

I know someone who doesnt believe losing is fun at all :lol rage.

Long story short (online impressions are all over the later half of the thread). The online is good with a wealth of nice options. Now, whether this holds up remains to be seen.

Go with the system you have a stick for. It'll be a much better experience than using a pad, and lots of NeoGAF folk are getting on the PSTriple so you'll have people to play with!

Dammit, one of the EBs downtown Toronto told me to expect the game Thursday or Friday. I think the guy said the game won't be shipping until Thursday since EB doesn't want to pay to hold the game in the warehouse an extra day if they were to ship today. DAMN YOU CANADA DAY

How dpad friendly is this? I'm able to hold my own on G2-C at SFIV with the dpad. Is it that good?

The game's VERY d-pad friendly, no kara's, plinks, or double taps neccessary, and there's no characters that need charge holding, so pretty much everything can be done on pad.

A couple of maneuvers are multi button presses (throw - bc barrier - ab, etc.) but you can map those to shoulders.
