The Blood of Dawnwalker — Cinematic Trailer & Gameplay Teaser

The main quest is about rescuing your family that has been kidnapped by the big bad vampire lord. You have 30 in-game days to rescue them before they get executed. Also time moves forward every time you do something important.

A time limit in an open world? Big nono.
I don't dislike the idea of a time limit AT ALL, but admittedly at least on paper 30 days and nights sounds a bit too restrictive.
Then again, without a full grasp of how the game is paced and what a full day of gameplay implies it's a bit too soon to complain.

Looks really good although at the end of the trailer I'm left with a bit of a redundant feeling like these very powerful noble vampires of life death and everything in between just need to carry on their work.

30 ingame days to complete the story? Who the hell came up with that genius idea?

Witcher 3 was so great because it didn't rush you and you could spend dozens of hours in Velen if that was what you wanted.

Rumors say Far Cry 7 is gonna do the same thing, you got like 27 (real life) hours or something to save your family. I'm honestly intrigued and hope they pull it off. I think the idea is to build maps that have layers to them and offer replayablilty instead of the static megahuge open world games that we are used to. It sounds kinda refreshing.

To me it sounds like trying to do a triple A game while spending less money.

We already went over a similar change with Deathloop - the game kept reusing the same 4 areas and that was a much worse idea than having around 9 unique and large sandbox levels in Dishonored.

Yeah, that definitely plays a part in it, together with long dev times.

Welp. Hope that's untrue. I don't like time limits since Majora's Mask, and that one wasn't even truly a time limit.

The game apparently aims to be as long as Blood and Wine so it's more like a one open region, I presume, the valley he was overlooking from the hill.

I bet 30 days and 30 nights will suffice.

The 30 days and 30 nights is simply how the narrative unfolds, from my understanding. Has no bearing on gameplay or how fast you need to finish anything. Based on their description, the days progress when specific quests are completed, like Spiderman. So you would be free to do whatever you want in between quests, and time of day is frozen while you do so. It makes sense given the change in the protagonist and related gameplay mechanics between day and night.

Next they will complain about Blood Hunger ruining their playthrough.

From what I heard it's quite the opposite with this game. They were already working on this for several years and are aiming to show more later this year so it doesn't necessarily need to be that far ahead from release as you're implying. It's apparently not the same scope as The Witcher 3, but more akin to Blood and Wine

I thought I read somewhere (this thread?) that they've only been working on the game for 2 years. I guess anything is possible (the gameplay reveal later this year is interesting) but doesn't that kind of suggest a 2027 or 2028 release?

Skeptical. We dont need a witcher clone. Authenticity will be a challenge here.

Do they have permission to use the books though - that would certainly help.

I was watching the dev diary and i would have loved if the vampires were actually the good guys or at least good enough to create a conflict where you can understand their reasoning for doing what they do but it seems like they are just big baddies that protect the people to use them as cattle, so save them to kill them later for food, no real good intentions whatsoever, i was hoping for something more complex than this, like the 4 of them being gruesome but ultimately good overlords, but not all the people being ok with them because they go too far to maintain the order or some shit.

Hopefully they are more than just hungry vampires saving humans for dinner.

Considering who's in charge of the story, we'll probably see different facets from the vampires.

Some of them will probably indeed be just murdering hungry assholes, and some of them will maybe be involved in some more morally gray storylines. This setting really lends itself for some incredibly interesting takes.

I hope so but those were the devs words.

Maybe the vamps are gonna be in conflict between them to decide how to handle humanity.

Looks like a solid staging. They have to show more gameplay footage though than 10 seconds. Here's hoping this game will make vampire games fashionable again. Zombies are so "last year".

This trailer makes me want some studio to take on a Van Helsing Vampire hunter inspired TPS game next.

Yeah same. The trailer gave the impression you'd at least begin the game joining the vampires. I thought maybe through the game you'd take decision that would ultimately end up with you either staying loyal to them or opposing them.
Reading that they are just going to be the generic bad guys is a bit disappointing, as is the whole 30 days thing.

Well shit

Dude is the lead quest designer for the Witcher 3 and both expansions, which was one of the most praised aspects of the game.
He also directed Thronebreaker which was awesome.

Not everyone who is gay/lesbian is some crazed woke fanatic trying to push this crap into everything they do. A lot of them are just regular talented people that just happen to be attracted to the same gender as themselves.

Let's hope that's the case but of course its always good to be aware of possible red flags and this type has been proven to cause disasters

Having a LGBTQ flag in the bio can be a red flag. Learn to read the room man
The 'room' here is to discuss a cinematic trailer and a gameplay teaser. Not who a developer is attracted to or what's in their pants. Anyway, sorry I called you out. I'll refrain from commenting on this further. I'm here just for the games.

I believe they registered domain with game title in late 2021, studio itself was also formed in 2021 as well. They've been working on this for a while

Given how little gameplay was shown (and even that was labeled in-engine rather than gameplay), I'd still guess it's at least 2 years out.

Anyone else think the name is a bit generic?

It's not horrible, but feel like it's too long and bland. Easily forgettable.

Simply "Dawnwalker" would be better.

Yeah seems to be a bit of a trend in games right now.
Dawnwalker would have been better.
I also think just Intergalatic or just The Heretic Prophet would have been a better name than "Intergalatic The Heretic Prophet"
Or just Expedition 33 instead of "Clair Obsucr: Expedition 33".
