The Sims 1 and 2 Getting Re-Release on PC This Week, All Expansions Included - Kotaku

I got The Sims 2 and all DLC for free on Origin when The Sims 4 launched. Over 10 years later, and they're still milking that.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I remember Sims 1 and what novelty it was. Kids these days don't realize how special this game was back then.

Oh yeah, it ran somewhat decently on my ancient family pentium computer when I was a kid, so many memories rushing back.

Graphics don't make a game. I'd say The Sims 2 at least would still be very playable today, The Sims 1 more of a novelty I guess, but that's due to lack of content rather than graphics.
As someone who has played a good amount of Sims 3 and 4, I have no desire to play these games. Now if this was Sims 3 I would get the hype. That was a great game held back by technical issues.

sims 3 is literally still for sale though on steam, even. It performs well... even better than 2 on the steam deck. What is it that you want done about Sims 3?

If only they were introduced.. I let my daughter play the first Sims a year or so ago and she fell in love instantly - who wouldn't? The first Sims game is magic. I remember spending so many hours on this game near release, still love it to this day, one of my all time favorites even though it doesn't cross my mind often.

Bruh. I didn't expect much but TS1 still in 4:3? Probably locked to 800x600? Requires EA app to be running in the background? Has Denuvo? So, absolutely minimum effort possible to get the program working on modern systems so you could sell nostalgia and squeeze a couple more bucks out of people.

Fuck. You. EA.

Edit cuz I'm big mad.

I cannot believe I allowed myself to think they might actually redo the UI, add support for arbitrary resolutions, maybe even include higher resolution textures. The cherry on top would be if these new versions were even harder/impossible to mod because of the various connection requirements and protections, making them the actual worst versions of the games. That would be... Incredible.

Yup. Not touching this with a barge pole unless I can find it super cheap on the grey market.

4:3 aspect ratio in 2025... wat.

This is insane, I can't believe it's not a mistake. These games have been available on torrents for 20 years.

Edit: Okay, it's because they're including some Sims 4 add-on as a bonus:
If you're concerned about Denuvo and EA App requirements listed on the store, they are NOT required for The Sims. The store page is referencing the included DLC for Sims 4 which requires Denuvo and EA App.

B-but The Sims 4 is not using Denuvo either... what's going on then?
yeah sims 4 has never had denuvo so this is weird. Why would they put Denuvo on the steam page as a typo? Weird. I did see somewhere that EAbackgroundservice.exe runs in the bg tho. Not sure what's true or what's not at this point lol. Anyway, got from another forum :

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
I’d kill for these to get mobile releases. I’ve been wanting to play SimCity 2000, RCT2, and the Sims on my phone for YEARS. But instead, we get bullshit micro transaction games with horrible execution.

I even installed XP on an emulator on my iPhone the other day just to play SimCity 2000. It took like four hours.

The worst part is, 2000 actually was briefly available on iOS like a decade ago, but it’s impossible to redownload or play on modern phones. :(

Bummed these didn't get a console release. Obviously it's a series made for PC but it'd be nice.

Otherwise this is super cool, I may pick these up

20 bucks - not bad at all. I'll buy this at 5 or less when it gets to that point because I already own the game physically, but would be convenient to have it available on Steam.

Sims 2 Mobile should still be a thing

So many games are like that. Its bullshit.
When I had an ipod touch and ipad, i used to play sword of fargoal and it got removed. Was so fun. Also those infinity blade and sword and poker. All gone

Android side where I reside now, Google pushed a button and anything made with android 23 and below won't launch. Even if you sideload, won't launch. That's 1000s of apps, many before microtransactions were big that are gone. Cardinal quest 1 and 2, Heroes of might and magic 3 port from ubi, all the magic the gathering games (the ones that didn't require online and had the cards unlocked in game, no buying card packs and it had legit single player).

Both companies do this shit. It's why I hope windows never abandons x86, even though some graphics whores on here want that. They want a smidge better performance at the cost of 10000 legacy games and apps. Hell no.

Simcity 4 is still playable and fun. Although I really do wish they would make a new one to rival skylines as skylines 2 has been in slow burn since it's painful launch.

The reveal trailer is possibly one of the most terrible reveals I've ever seen. I was expecting them to cash in on nostalgia and show a bunch of cool footage in high res from both Sims 1 and 2, instead they do that live-action crap, what the actual fuck?? :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:
But then again, going by what people are saying, they didn't use high res in-game footage because the games don't properly support modern tech in the first place, go figure, fucking EA...

I'd be temped to get this on the Steam Deck. Sims 2 is the best one of the lot. Should be quite a cool game to play portably and finally some reason to use the track pads for gaming.

Seems like there's 16:9 support, not sure why Steam screenshots are 4:3.

I can't belive I'm playing my childhood game on an ultrawide.

$20 dollars was a decent surprise, I was honestly expecting $40 being EA. Sad they don't have achievements on Steam, but after seeing The sims 4 trophies on Playstation maybe im not missing much, they were really grindy.

So i've decided to install Sims 4 on Steam since it's free.
Does anyone have experience with Sims 4? Is the base game good?
