So they basically have gave up on the Xbox consoles in favor of reaching more potential players/game pass subs on other platforms.
But they can still offer their own hardware for players who want to support it, like Steam does with the deck. On Series S the added value is the cheapest current gen, for example. They should make their next consoles Windows compatible and also with the added value of cheapest for a budget model on one side, and higher end than any other console, for niche enthusiast, on other side. Also why not bet on portable machines. But the point is, their main goal is make their ecosystem to grow, so probably their own hardware is shifting just be a one more option within many others in which you be part of.

Ya know if they actually had some , to quote the late great Don Mattrick himself, "Blockbuster Games" the Xbox anywhere on anything initiative would probably work. I just think they're about 10 years too late. Like this might have worked with the Xbox One if Halo and Gears didn't simultaneously take the piss and MS had been more aggressive in securing 3rd party content for their platform(s).

Best they can hope for, imo, is an IOS/Android situation with Sony but even that would take another XBL type evolution of the system from them and I don't think they currently have the talent to pull that off.

Yeah I was so confused by the advert but everyone's saying this is about an MS strategy to push towards services over hardware?

I actually followed the link in the video description to see if their website might have more to say. It led me to an obvious marketing-geared quiz asking me to ID objects as an XBox or not. And, of course, the quiz doesn't work properly on Firefox. Damn, I guess that's what I get for not using Edge.

I’m enjoying this way too much

Poor Dolt. I imagine he's fed up of putting stuff out there for it ti be proven wrong in a few days, he's now gone all in to.get ahead of the game.

Not sure if he's done so his streak of being wrong continues and not all games are coming or just fed up of losing

im confused.

is this streaming like stadia? (shit)

or is it gamepass being on everything?

(im guessing the latter)

edit - either way they're clearly getting out of the hardware market

Streaming wasn't stadia's problem. It was somewhat decent there. Still, I am not for a streaming future haha.

I'm not so sure if you should be heavily investing in the younger generation that doesn't have money or jobs.
Or how about just fucking lying about them in general. The "younger generation" has also showed time and time again they have 0 desire to play large triple a games on tiny screens. Every streaming app or triple a port on phones and tablets has more or less failed. And the concept of connecting a controller to a tv in order to stream a game is cool, but unrealistic. We are far away from a majority of gamers having good enough internet.

I'm not quite certain who this ad is meant to appeal to.

For us hardcore gamers, we know exactly what an Xbox is and it and ALWAYS will be, a console.

To the people out there who don't give a fuck about gaming but would consider getting into it, they know Playstation. They know Nintendo. But if I showed them this ad, they wouldn't know what the fuck an Xbox is.

They are spreading themselves far too thinly all over the place. Focus on 1 area and they might succeed.

Hold them accountable.

You are part of the problem.
There's nothing to hold MS accountable for anymore. The time for that is so far gone it's not even worth talking about. You are either ok with the way this ecosystem is going or you aren't and that's that. Personally if this was happening with PS my main worry would be they reach a point where the console no longer makes sense. Which seems to be the worry of most of the rational Xbox youtubers.

Couldn't agree more but they seem to be stuck in 2010 when people thought consoles were dying and we'd all be playing on our mobile phone by the end of the gen.
