My daughter loves the Rune Factory games and is super excited for 5 coming out in May. I just got 4 for me and 3 for her on Switch. Once we finish, we will Switch (get it?) and have them both done before 5!

Labyrinth of the Demon King - heavily FromSoft inspired throwback to games like King's Field, created in a PS1 style.

Black Finger Jet - spiritual successor to Metal Slug in the HD-2D style. Made by ex-Metal Slug developers and co-developed by Acquire who worked on Octopath Traveller.

Untitled VRESKI FPS - no name yet for Hong Kong cinema inspired FPS game from VRESKI, developer of The Hong Kong Massacre

This is a cool initiative, OP. We ought to make this kind of thread a monthly or bi-monthly thing to disseminate info about lesser known upcoming games to other GAF members.
This is the thread gaf needs. Back in the day I would always get the best info about new indies from gaf and that kind of disappeared with the faux exodus.

Hopefully this thread stays active. Bookmarked and thanks March Climber March Climber
I was thinking what if we simply continued using the same thread, like the graphical fidelity one? That way people can see old and new recommendations. It's a good way for people in 2026 or further to catch games they might have missed. Maybe yearly could work too. It's ultimately up to you guys though.

I'm not a huge indie guy, but I have these games in my wishlist, whether they come out good or not, I have no idea...
Also to everyone, it doesn't need to be about just indie, there are smaller form or larger budget games that sometimes miss exposure and coverage, but it's about what you personally are looking forward to (regardless of the opinions of others) that people in general might have not been paying attention to.

Here is one I've been keeping a close eye on:

That does look very good! Instant wishlist on steam.

I was hoping for it to be single player or optional co op instead of a free mmorpg but don't mind that either since it reminds me of a better and more western version of Ragnarok online which I used to play with my cousins long ago. Definitely going to try this out and hope it does very well in the mmorpg department.

Tormented Souls 2 apparently comes out in April(per my Amazon pre-order) though that may be a placeholder.

The Talos Principle Reawakened - U5 remake of an amazing puzzle game.

Nocturnal - Metroidvania. Comes out in physical release later this year.

Immersive sim supreme. Picking up where Looking Glass studios left off, and basically ignoring the slop released between then and now. I've played the first map in Early Access and decided not to touch it again until it's fully complete. A real GOTY contender whenever it releases.

Yep every steam sale I check to see if they have a 1.0 release date or not. Even indies are taking too long to come out.

I swear I've had this game on my wishlist for what seems like forever. With the downfall of Domina, I've always wanted a newer gladiator management game. It'll probably be shit as it keeps pushing back the estimated release window but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

Parasite Eve style game. PSX styled graphics too.

I always like to recommend the entire "new" MicroProse catalog on this topics.

They are reviving some genres that used to be awesome and exclusive to PC

Another one that I recently discovered is Monomyth, a pseudo Dark Messias of Arx Fatalis and King's Field

Bionic Bay looks crazy good and I never see anyone talk about it. Puzzle platformer all about world and time manipulation with gigantic scale and really good pixel graphics. It’s out in April.

Dysplaced, the sequel to Dysmantle which is an awesome game nobody played. 10tons games have kind of mobile graphics but they’re so tightly designed and fun to play. Isometric open world survival RPG.

One of the first that comes to mind is MENACE, by the creators of Battle Brothers:

Oh wow, this looks super interesting and Battle Brothers is a great game.

Edit: In general so many great games are heading our way from these smaller indie studios, it’s crazy. What’s sad is that there is no way I can play even half of these due to just not having enough time :(.

That said, really looking forward couple new games about managing Hollywood studios in their heyday. I will need to dig up the names once I get home.

I hope this thread is paying off for you guys as much as it is for me. A lot of good stuff here I've never seen before and ended up wishlisting.

It got delayed to 2026 but I'm still looking forward to Decapolice.

Danjin44 Danjin44 I'm curious to know more of your picks if you don't mind sharing.

Here's another one from me, for the thread:

(And yes they confirm in the video that the game has single player play)
