What's the best-looking game on Switch?

Soapbox Killer

Grand Nagus
As we once more take steps to the end of the road on this Switch journey, I wonder after all these years and all these games , what stands above all as the best looking game on Switch?

Luigi's Mansion 3 would be my pick. Just an outstanding looking game that punches WAY about it's weight.

What say you.

Art style over sheer fidelity.
BotW and TotK.

Mp1 remastered i think

This was the other game which is kinda INSANE all things considered.

BOTW is BY FAR the best gaming experience ive ever had but I never thought the game was particularly attractive. It's very serviceable in the narrative of the sublime open world Hyrule but as Zelda games go, on looks it's not top 5

Luigi Mansion 3
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 + Torna The Golden Country
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 + Future Redeemed
13 Sentinel Aegis Rim
Metroid Prime Remastered
Astral Chain
Eastward
Sea of Stars
Dragon Quest 11 S Definitive Edition
Link Awakening Remake
Mario + Rabbids Games
Live A Live
Persona 5 Games
Resident Evil 0/1
Star Ocean The Second Story R
Steamworld Dig 2
Super Mario RPG Remake
Tales of Vesparia HD Remaster
Unicorn Overlord
GrimGrimoire OnceMore

Considering graphics only, probably Luigi Mansion 3, but also considering other things it’s TOTK.

There is just no way this game runs on a switch. I had the same wow moment I had when I played Ocarina of time on N64 back in the day. After seeing the previews, I was convinced it must be somehow limited in scope and a short experience, but it turned out I was so wrong.

Xenoblade 3 to be is one of the best looking games ever and I play on PC, it's just missing some IQ, I'm literally hopping for Switch 2 to have patches for improving resolution of Switch 1 (even better if they're at 60 fps) just so I can go back to Xenoblade 3 and complete the sidequests and play the DLC that I haven't yet.
There are parts where the DLC looks even better!

The Switch version is considered the best looking version!

at the cost of unfathomable amounts of input lag however.
no idea what exactly causes the lag, but it's probably a combination of bad vsync and massively stressing the GPU.

I'd say Metroid Prime remastered and Luigi's Mansion 3 are the best looking ones from a technical standpoint

Top 2 IMO

-Luigi's Mansion 3 looks amazing and I also love how interactive the environments are with lots of physics and objects reacting to your vacuum.

Metroid Prime Remaster looks great too. The fact it's not only one of the best looking games on the system but it also somehow runs at locked 60fps is specially impressive

Runner up is probably Astral Chain. It's not quite as impressive as Luigis Mansion nor is it 60fps like Metroid, but still a great looking game
And Xenoblade 3 which has some great environments and cutscenes but suffers from pretty awful IQ.

It's not the best looking game on Switch, but I found Mario Odyssey quite impressive. It deserves a shout out, especially as an early Switch 2017 game.

The obvious choices though are Metroid Prime and Luigi's Mansion 3. Astral Chain is up there though.

Man I can't wait to see how these IPs look on Switch 2. With the graphics output being around PS4 level, I'm excited to see what they can do with that type of power and pairing it with modern hardware? Gonna to look amazing. And I still find PS4 games beautiful to look at

- Metroid Prime R
- Metroid Dread
- Xenoblades series
- BoTW
- ToTK
- Diofield
- Mario Odyssey
- Mario Kart 8D
- Astral Chain
- octopath series
- bravely default 2

there are a lot of them, but i'm too lazy to write them off here

But again, they are using some artstyles, which made them more timeless than the game which graphically aged faster, even in other consoles at the time.

"Unfathomable" to you is "a slight increase in input latency" to John Linneman, mentioned briefly during the glowing 20 minute breakdown of the Switch version compared to PS3, Xbox One, and PS4 versions. This is a brilliant conversion.

Yup. Honestly I've found the current gen games on Series X and PS5 not to be that much of a jump from many PS4 games. There are a few standouts in the current gen, but it's few and far between.

It really depends on if Nintendo goes the cross-gen route with a lot of their titles. Metroid Prime 4 could have been a much bigger jump than it is. We'll have to see what else they have planned, if the games are strictly Switch 2 we will see a significant leap.

If they aren't, it will take half a gen before we see the upgrade, much like the current situation.

I find it very difficult to choose Super Mario Odyssey or Tears of the Kingdom since they look so bad on TV with the low resolution and jaggies.

Maybe Metroid Prime Remastered then..

Yeah it's gonna to be interesting in regards to the first six months of this year if Switch 2 releases. For me I don't mind if the games are cross gen but it's gonna to be interesting what Nintendo does with gameplay using the increase in specs with Switch 2. Look at both 3D Zelda games. I might not have liked them but I do admit that they are amazing in the gameplay department. And I heard they used an Old physics tech engine. Impressive to see at times. I hope they have more titles like that for Switch 2

It is a really compelling discussion to me because most of the differences I see this gen vs last are almost at a Digital Foundry level of scrutiny for me to be able to tell the difference. Not always, Hellblade 2 looks a magnitude better than almost any other game I have seen. Flight Simulator is black magic of the highest order.

Indeed. There's definitely some stunners, but most the time I just feel like I'm playing last gen games with some special traits (4k, 60fps, better lighting, textures).

That's what I worry about with cross-gen switch games. They will hold back the jump. Not just visually, gameplay wise for most new entries. Prime 4, well it's been 18 years since the last new entry so it has plenty of room to grow.

But Zelda, Mario and etc,? I think Nintendo pushed all of them about as far as they could go with the Switch.

it's more than 250ms of lag. for comparison 100ms is already not amazing even for a 30fps game.

Tbh, the P5R port is serviceable, but nothing wow. There are quite a few technical shortcomings, considering the original P5 was a PS3 game. The Switch version has low-resolution textures and generally runs below native resolution in both portable mode (540p) and docked mode (810p).

The game scales fairly predictably across the more capable home console platforms, but these ports don't seem to translate Persona 5's PS3-era tech very efficiently, so more power-constrained consoles - the Switch in particular - come in with serious visual compromises relative to the PS4 release. There's no bad ports here necessarily, just a couple that fall below expectations for modern conversions of seventh-gen software.

I'd replace that one with Nier Automata which is a much better port, and close to base Xbox One in image quality.

Man, I wish Astral Chain would've clicked with me, but I am just too retarded to control 2 characters at the same time.

Super Mario Odyssey has a perfect artstyle imo. It also runs at 900p60 on a device half as capable as the Xbox One.
