Why has the narrative switched from just buy a PC to a sudden attack on PC gaming?

I think a certain group of people feel threatened and were upset at attacks on the PS5 pro. There was also the supposed marching orders from MS that everyone should buy a PC now which caused extra scrutiny.

IMO both the ps5 pro and Nvidias new cards are bullshit, both statements can be true to some people.

But, yes. There seems to be an extra intensive attack on PC gaming from a section of the internet. Hopefully the 9070 XT launching today will help. I'm going to buy one.

PS5 Pro has nothing to do with it. People do not like being lied to and Nvidia blatantly lied about their 5000 series GPUs.

Just like it will save console gaming in 2026 when next gen Xbox will release.

This time it will be different

Which narrative? Yes, it's true that Nvidia has fucked the consumer market. But there's no "narrative"; unless you mean that some terminally online people are dooming.

Pretty much, Pro ridiculous price and weak ass update is bad.

5xxx series weak update and ridiculous prices (non MSRP) are super bad. Not being able to buy them is hilarious.

But here comes AMD with new decent cards...

And everyone is acting like all PC gamers suddenly need GPU update? LOL, millions of people have powerful 3xxx or 4xxx cards, they can easily wait for "next gen" cards on them.

1. Because it is young people and people in China who are responsible for PC gaming growth, not old farts in America who want very super specific types of console games they are nostalgic for.

2. The graphics card market is a total nightmare and people are still in the denial stage about what a mess future consoles are going to be, despite the PS5 Pro being a taste.

Because PC gaming is a lie. You pass 90% of the time tweaking graphics settings, edit .ini and shit like that instead of gaming, and at the end of the day you can play pretty much the same on a console, but much easier.

Or at least this is why I almost stopped playing on PC.

I think this is half true. If you're OCD about settings and getting every last drop of performance, a console might help because it takes those options away.

Key word being options. On console we don't waste time worrying about how much better it could be because it can't. Most average PCs will run a console game the same or better than the console by default, spending only 2 minutes (if that) on basic settings like screen resolution. You don't end up spending a lot of time unless you're trying to squeeze every drop of performance.

There's 3 or 4 people on here repeating this kind of stuff because they spent a ton on a PS5 Pro and they're getting anxiety about NextBox.

Just like console gaming saved AMD.

Also, no one is attacking PC gaming as a concept or an option. People are expressing frustration over being taken advantage of by Nvidia. In 10 months, no one will be talking about the 50 series cards anymore, and in 2 years, we'll go back to being pissed off at spending $3000* on a 6070.

Console gaming is facing an existential crisis with young people having no interest in them so expect even more animosity from millennial fanboys of plastic boxes.

The real party will start with the next generation of consoles which will offer minimal improvements at hilarious prices as there is no other revenue growth to be found with a stagnating and aging console player base.

Why do people assume the random tiny slice of things they are exposed to at any one point in time represent the whole of life at that instant?
It's called induction. The "tiny slice" of a picture represents the whole picture!

For example, my console works well, so all consoles work well.

My pc runs like shit, so all pcs run like shit!

It's easy!

They didn't stay in their lane.

Sony putting their games on it + Xbox refugees jumping ship to PC + Consoles offering "PC features" like high frame rates or different performance configurations +
certain influencers trying to put the narrative that consoles are dying and "PC is winning here" = Increased the PC discourse in relation to consoles.

so it's just old fashion platform warring.

If anything- outside looking in, i feel like PC gaming has tons of hype in recent years.
It just isnt for me- yea it looks good, but optimizations, entry costs, continual costs, and general maintenance within Windows etc- Meh.
Late exclusives the PC like Sony is doing, doesnt really bother me. Sony is trying to milk what they can on the back end. Xbox on the other hand devalued their brand- assuming they had any interest in trying to sell their consoles.

When in doubt, blame Sony.

I don’t really see an attack on PC gaming other than people venting about GPU prices and scalpers buying up inventory.

Don't care about console wars, if something is better to me than it's better and I don't care to convince anyone otherwise. Made the jump to PC gaming in the later years of the PS3 era and never looked back. It's something I will almost always have on when I'm home unlike a console which is most likely going to be collecting dust until another interesting game comes out for it. The only time I actually have my console on a lot of times was during the N64 PS2, XBOX era cause I was a kid with nothing much to do and I was in elementary to high school during those years and I got friends/cousins coming over for splitscreen with Timesplitters 3, Halo, Halo 2, and Donkey Kong 64

Obviously consoles win with raw convenience

Other than that? Nah. It's not even close.

I don't see this "crisis" when it comes to PlayStation and Nintendo. If the party starts with hilarious prices and minimal improvements then Nvidia already started that party.

I think there might very well be a console crisis with the next generation. Just as only a handful of PC only titles exist. I forsee only a handfull of PS6 only games to exisit.
Games that support multiple gens of consoles going all the way back to PS4 will be the majority of games being developed.
At that point. Just get a PC or Just get a Console will gel together to get you the same experience.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
High prices in general.

Console fans don’t like that their exclusives get ported to PC.

Nvidia’s 50 serie is insanely overpriced and they lied on the unveil.

Scalpers make it hard to buy anything.

Ray tracing is demanding and you get pushed to buy more expensive hardware than you planned.

Bad ports and shader stutter.

I think that’ll cover most of it.

You forgot:

Faulty hardware. Not just Nvidia's badly designed 12VHPWR connector, but also the absolute disaster of dying Intel 13th/14th gen processors.
