Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition |OT| Shoot them with your guns (Again!)

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
The only Xeno game I have not completed (because WiiU). Now I can finally dig into it this week.
Confession time: I never finished this game on the WiiU either. I made it up to chapter 4 or 5 (I can't exactly recall, it was several years ago) and bailed because the leveling was too slow, and the high level enemies kept wrecking me.

In fact, here's a LTTP thread I made about the game when I played it in 2019:

This time though, I'm definitely in it for the long haul.

I dipped out too when I tried it in 2015. I was bummed that character and story elements had taken a back seat to multiplayer grindy loot stuff. I loved how each character fit their class perfectly in Xenoblade 1, like Reyn looked and acted like a living tank, and Shulk was a skinny lil tech boi with a magic future seeing sword, turning him into a glass cannon in gameplay. The classes seemed so generic to me in XCX with all humanoid character models fitting into every class, and you couldn't even play as a Nopon! I wanted a Nopon to pilot a mech so badly.

But when I went back to the game in 2019 I really loved it since I just let the game be its own weird self. One thing that might help new players considering picking it up is to not to think of your player character or Elma or anyone else as the main character. Instead the planet Mira is the main character, and the game is about exploring Mira and finding all the cool stuff on it. If people approach the game with that mindset and understand it's not as character focused as other xenoblades, and they like making crazy builds to destroy giant dinosaur monsters, then it won't be hard for them to fall in love with the weirdest xenoblade. Plus there's some new story content that might end up being a big deal too.

Time to post this video again

Everybody seems to have a boner for this game. I don't see it on Amazon for some reason.
I couldn't find any preorders on Amazon either, was going to put a link in the OP - and the only one Amazon is currently selling is the old WiiU version.

Yeah. I seems to be in higher demand than usual. I went ahead and ordered it from Best Buy.

I would order from GameStop, but, sometimes, they send you an opened case and that annoys me.

Xenoblade's physical release is always on high demand, they sell out pretty quickly.

And for those people who want to wait until Switch 2 comes out I would say at least buy the physical copy now then play it later when Switch 2 comes out.

Self fulfilling prophecy. Won't buy it until Switch 2 and then will complain they can't find a Physical Copy. Xenosaga all over again.

There was this picture of slutty pilot girls in the deluxe edition art book for Wii U. I don’t remember them being in the actual game. Is it possible this is some cut content that will be in the Switch version?

Probably different Cross Avatars. Seems like fanart or a concept for Squad Missions more then anything.

Most of the NPCs / party members in this game are generic tropes. However, it can be quite the harem simulator (especially if you make the main character female) as there is a separate "dress up" menu with a pretty good variety of variations on skimpy outfits you can dress your characters in.

Tank tops, panties, bikinis, cat ears, shirtless (men), and lots of accessories to choose from. The western release unfortunately took out several options (mainly, the "boob slider" in the character creator, and the bikini for the 13-year-old character), but there's still lots of sexy to be had here.

I dunno, there’s a section toward the beginning of the book with cross avatars. This pic is at the end of the art book along with a few concept art pieces. Also has diagrams explaining the different functions of the outfit.

It seems to me like this was some concept idea that never made it into the game.

Here’s the other page. Maybe these are supposed to be the pilots from the opening sequence?
Probably just concept armor? However, we do see a few other "cut" designs that came back (at least for the trailer / new story parts)

I want to try this game to see what all the fuss is about, but I have never understood Xenoblade's combat so I will end up passing most likely.
For what it's worth, this game has pretty good tutorials (vastly improved from the original WiiU release), and you can also revisit them any time from the menu.

You never know, this might be the time it finally "clicks" for you!

First game in a long time that I'll have to go out to a store to buy. I think Amazon isn't carrying 1st party Nintendo games for some reason. Weirdly, I was able to order the most recent Zelda game from them for some reason.

Definitely Choco's artwork. Probably just a concept art?

From this image, the description said it's avatar and skell equipment design. There's actually a lot of slutty armor design for female character lol

You know what I'm dressing my female characters as 👀

As for everything else, I'm fine with this game having less of a story. I'm mostly gonna to do the main story and spend a good 100 to 200 hours into this game. I'll even try out the multiplayer even if I don't play multiplayer at all

Please don't miss out on the side quest. Most people who said less story didn't play the side quest. The side quest is meaty in this game. Someone sums this game pretty good:
Main story: Elma is the protagonist
Side quest: you are the protagonist

FYI, the main quests are level-gated, so doing them all back to back is pretty impractical / impossible. Some main quests even explicitly require you to finish certain affinity / side quests before you can start the next chapter. As best as I can tell, this game doesn't have a "rush the main story" option. You WILL be doing a bunch of side quests.

Which I'm fine with. I really want to explore the world. Heard you get the mech 60 Hours in

That depends on how you play / how much fast traveling you do. With the QoL improvements in this game, it's going to shave a pretty significant chunk off that estimate. Things like not having to travel (even fast travel) back to town to swap out party members or to change the time of day is a massive time-saver, for example. The loading times for fast travel also seem vastly improved over the WiiU version, so every time you do it you're saving 10-15 seconds (which adds up over the course of tens of hours).

Also as NanaMiku NanaMiku mentioned, they're reworked the structure of the main quest.

It's still not given right away, and the game makes you work for it, but the old 60-hour metric is obviously way off in this version.

Oh I'm happy to work for it. I hate that to get costumes in most games, you have to buy the DLC. I get a much satisfying feeling getting a costume from a sidequest or grinding for money to buy a costume from a shop than I do from buying DLC. As for costumes in Xenoblade Chronicles X, I hope there's a wide variety of them and of the more spicy variety that is
