Zero Time Dilemma (Zero Escape 3) featured in Famitsu

For what it's worth, I'm reasonably certain that both Junpei and Sigma are the genuine articles. Junpei's arc pretty much demands it and Sigma has a zillion unpleasant accidents awaiting him in this game that would prove conspicuous if they were absent.

Phi is radiating imposter vibes. Reddish eyebrows, glasses, excessive hair shadowing possibly indicating a wig, that translated loveydovey quote that seems highly out of character... to say nothing of her outfit. Watch it be Clover in disguise (her trademark facial blemish having been covered up by makeup).

And Akane... well, it's always hard to take her at face value.

The dots are connecting. I actually think we might be onto something legit here. D:

Out of curiosity was a dog even hinted about being a character in this game before the Famitsu reveal? Where did all the people predicting a dog being a contestant come from? I must have missed something from the other games.

Some interview or article around the initial announce confirmed there'd be a dog.

I think you guys are looking too hard at the shadow. It probably has something to do with the artstyle.

Uchikoshi said the game would have a dog in it the day after the game was revealed. A few weeks ago it was confirmed on twitter that the dogs name is Gab - a word that was on the 4infinity website.

EDIT: Beaten.

Oh, if we're throwing things onto the speculation fire:
Phi seems to have Sigma's eye color, too
.

Man, it's been too long since I've seen the old ZE theory machines going wild.

Reddit seems to be all aboard the
Phi is Sigma & Diana's daughter
bandwagon.

I suppose if we're taking her quote at face value...

Translated each character's quote as well as I could make them out. They shouldn't be spoilers considering they're displayed prominently on a magazine page, but I'll spoiler them anyway.

ふたりとも、必ず生き残ってくれ 愛してる・・・
You two have to survive... I love you.
It would stand to reason
she'd be fully invested in having Mom and Dad survive. Can't be born otherwise unless you're a character in Futurama and become your own grandfather.

You probably want to remove that image. Scans (except ones released officially by Famitsu) aren't kosher.

Also, re:
Phi as Diana/Sigma's daughter
: that's only possible if
Phi is capable of traveling back in time both body and mind
, given the ages involved. I guess it's technically possible that
she's in someone else's body
but that begs the question of
why her eye color/hair color would be those specific colors
and then we're back at square one.

That's assuming that all 3 team game scenarios are unfolding simultaneously in 2028 as implied.

Still doesn't solve the problem.
Phi is in the same team as Diana and Sigma, who are both in their 20s, same as her. If we assume she's their daughter there's no time period where all three can be the same age unless time travel or very convincing impostors/spare bodies are involved
.

Huh, actually, now that I think about it though, there is one way this works thanks to VLR's
clones and cryogenics
, though it involves a lot of people lying and/or having false memories (and kind of screws up the stated purpose of VLR.)

I'm a little confused, is sigma in ZTD the same young sigma that went through the events of VLR, then went back to the past, or old sigma in the past?

Looking at the female character designs this time, it's time for me to pull out my appreciation for legs.

One more interesting part from the Uchikoshi interview that I think hasn’t yet been translated: [big VLR Spoilers]

Q:
(summarized) about the connection to VLR and if it will be the players role to follow down the path set by VLR

Uchikoshi:
Sigma losing both his arms and an eye are part of the broken down future. If you follow down this path, the world will end. Conversely, this means that your goal is to not follow down this path. If you see an event where Sigma loses his arms and the eye, then I want you to think “this route suuucks/this route is dangerous!”.
(Laughs)

Q:
So Sigma is aiming for a future where he is physically intact, right? Since it looks like many of the unanswered questions in ZTD will be cleared up, what about the mystery revolving around the organization “Free The Soul” that appeared in VLR?

Uchikoshi: Everything will be answered, so look forward to it!

Also sounds like Uchikoshi is really going for that “hard R” rating

Yeah, that made me laugh when I read it - the original Hokanko summary didn't do it justice.

Same here, Uchikoshi interviews are always a fun read.

btw, It really was '愛してる' in that blurry pic next to Phi, that Gaffer has some great eyes ;)

Yup, looks like most of the early leaks were on-point, though there were definitely some inconsistencies (9 days vs. 6 for the time between the simulation's start and the Decision Game's start, the implication there might be a way other than the passwords to escape, etc.)

Speaking of those quotes though, the one the original translator upthread couldn't make out for Akane is something like: "We might be in a timeline [history] the gods have forsaken."

You're right, the missing part was 歴史. That's a pretty ominous quote...

No

Phi is a dog, short for Phido

And the kid of Sigma and Diana

keep up :V

Hmmm, sorry! I really just woke up.

So:

Diana bore Phi, and gave her a brooch before dying.
Sigma went to the moon to get the Ambidex Game ready, leaving her daughter alone on Earth.
He creates Luna in her memory, to be around the woman he always loved, and gives her the pendant.
Phi kinda sees something in Sigma during VLR and shows her brooch to him, hoping he would react to it. Unfortunately young Sigma couldn't know what that was about.

Yeah, makes total sense. Except for the fact that her body shouldn't exist yet at that point.

---

That theory is almost 5 years old at this point lol

I know, that's how crazy we are now.

After all that, Phi = Phi would be a twist.

Q wear a mask because his true identity is in flux as long as his mask isn't removed. Because this is the way quantum physics work in the 999/VLR universe.

I love the "each team is at a different time" theory, so typical
