Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

You can't flop before your opening weekend.
The Iron Giant is still the best superman movie there is.
Willing to put in the hard work quickly then even more with the Universe and box office success with MoS and likely the same with BvS. I imagine they could have got another director but one to do it all like Snyder has done, probably slim pickings to none. WB screwed it up by not taking a break after MoS, sending Snyder packing and trying to create a Universe in a couple of years. I've said before but directors can get lucky and I doubt BvS will flop so will WB just look at short term profits and continue with Snyder, very possible.
What they should have done, bet on the winner with Batman again in a new film. Recast Superman. Introduce Wonder Women. Can we get a Lex like the animated series or Rosenbaum. Take it slow, no world endings. Three films with those main characters and maybe some other introductions then Justice League.

The only character moment that you could give 2 shits about was the one the director fought tooth and nail to add, and then had to include random Thor scene because that was the ultimatum set on the movie. Marvel has its shtick and it works well but all those movies follow almost the exact same formula. All look like they were made from a suit checklist on things that worked on Ironman 1. Other than Winter Solider, but that movie was amazing. Don't try to sell me this bridge shit with Marvel being new evolving and different, c'mon now
Those beats are totally there even if you didn't notice them or if the execution was clumsy. They're easily overshadowed by the movie's other problems but like I said, they're there.
I'm not saying Marvel is perfect or they fix all their problems, I'm saying they seem to at least recognize they have weaknesses and try to remedy them.
That and as much as I love them Comics are pretty much circling drain. They got a few more decades in them but, they are heading out.
Well, at least you didn't see Fan4tastic. THAT was the worst film experience of the year. And I saw it for free.
I want my money back for the gas it took for me to get to the theater.
It's too late at this point, but like everyone here is saying, a delay announcement is imminent.

More cooks in the kitchen, more ingredients to work with, more expensive pots and pans doesn't always lead to better food.
What's missing here is raw talent... the kind of talent that usually isn't interested in or isn't wanted for these types of movies.
I find this hard to believe when Jurassic World and Fantastic Four came out in 2015, too.

It sounds like it, yeah, just like a lot of older Superman fans didn't like MoS either. But then same director and writer (at least originally) so we really shouldn't be too surprised I suppose. Still, I'm expecting to be let down again and upset after I see BvsS this weekend, just like I was with MoS.

Exactly. These aren't new characters with a limited history. There are DECADES of history to draw from, including dozens of universally acclaimed and celebrated incarnations.
I swear, these versions are straight out of the Injustice: Gods Among Us universe...
I'm not even joking anymore; these incarnations feel exactly like the ones Zack Synder would celebrate... without understanding these are meant to be the VILLAINOUS incarnations of our heroes.

The reason I said what I said to the other poster was because I feel this revisionism about Miller's importance to the Bat legacy (or indeed comics in general) is somewhat unfair. It's entirely rooted in the lack of quality in his post-TDKR work and generally disgusting political commentary of late. That doesn't change anything though. His origin story in Year One became the quintessential take on it. TDKR is one of the three books that kick-started mainstream acceptance of comics and reshaped the public's perception of the character. Regardless of his faults, he's an important figure.

Also, if I remember correctly, Timm was approached by some WB execs way back about maybe advising or producing a live-action slate, and he turned it down. Or maybe that was the comics? Maybe they asked him to oversee the comics side of things instead of the movie side? Either way, he actually DID get approached, but he declined.
There's been such a long, long twisted story about Warners trying to get this shit off the ground that the details start to get muddy after a certain point.

Is it really a "bubble" if it's been going on for 16+ years? At this point "superhero" is just another genre like "sci fi" or "western". Doubtful it will ever actually go away, though you may get a couple lean years here and there.

I never trusted Affleck Batman, but this looks worse than expected.

edit: Jim Aparo and Denny O'Neill helped rehab Batman's image in the '70s. I believe Nolan was using O'Neill's interpretation of the character for inspiration on Begins and The Dark Knight, if I remember correctly.

Sigh. Why couldn't it have been this? I watched this again like a month or two ago and its still a really fun movie. The scene where Superman finds a bat-tracker on his cape and then sees Batman off in the distance is still awesome

It has to be that they are their own worst enemies in some way. In their desire to control the project because there's so much money involved, they're not staying true to the creative process.
And they're often veering off course from the outset, because it's so often the scripts that are the most problematic. Hollywood doesn't seem to know what a good story is anymore. It's gotten to the point where its weird when they get it more or less right, like with GotG. It catches you off guard.
