oh for fucks sake
They do leave it to the publisher a lot of times. Ubisoft is revealing a new IP this E3. Guess who could spoil it for just for shits and giggles if they wanted to?I'm just saying that maybe it's better sometimes to leave it to the publisher? That's terrible in a lot of cases, sure. But it would have reduced confusion and people going apeshit.
Thats really cool of himThey do leave it to the publisher a lot of times. Ubisoft is revealing a new IP this E3. Guess who could spoil it for just for shits and giggles if they wanted to?
But news is news. A hotly anticipated game being delayed is news. We see people posting all over GAF and other places across the internet saying how they already have scheduled time off work or planned to do so. His responsibility is to inform them, not wait around for Sony or Hello Games.
It's so strange to me that people get bothered when journalists go outside what publishers want them to do. The only harm and confusion inflicted here came not from Jason but from salty little manchildren with zero perspective on video games.
What?Not you too legacy
Well gosh darn howdy I am straight up rustled that I'm getting information sooner as a consumer.
I see your snark, but dont you fucking put me in that reddit asshole category. My comment was respectful and at least thought out.How dare Jason and Kotaku hurt people's feelings by delaying this game!
What?
Im just saying that it didnt help confusion, thats all!
There was no confusion, just aggressive denial.
Edit:Speaking of denial (my own this time), on Steam the date is still unchanged.
You're absolutely right about the community aspect. But if you separate the assholes, my only issue is that the story created more questions than answers. When is it delayed to? Why the delay? Is it legit? What confusion tho
All I know is that Sony and HG announced that NMS will be released on June 21st, then Jason posted his story that the game will be delayed and instead of recognizing that his track record on these things is like almost 100% correct every time and that the game might really have been delayed the supposed 'fan community' tried their best to prove that Jason is wrong by spreading fake tweets, fake ad flyers, calling '30 Gamestops' and generally just taking a shit on Jason + Kotaku
Kotaku did exactly what they always do when they receive info; it's a big part of the NMS community that fucked up really bad
Thats more true. Its sad. And no amount of proof and evidence I provided changed their mindsThere was no confusion, just aggressive denial.
Edit:Speaking of denial (my own this time), on Steam the date is still unchanged.
The story raised questions and that's bad? It provided new info (that the game was delayed), that's more than the publisher gave us.You're absolutely right about the community aspect. Then people begin to start filling in the blanks with bullshit, creating perceptions. And Perceptiin usually equals reality to a lot of folks. Thats not on Jason and its bullshit that he and others like Keza was harrassed. Thats terrible. I just think that it all was an unintended mess. I dont think Jason intended for it to get crappy like that
Again, you imply that they intended to not say, when one of the main points of the story was that they havnt landed on a new date yet. Sony coming out and saying "yeah we're delayed, dont know till when though" would have been light years worse than Jason breaking the story. The story raised questions and that's bad? There is actually a live chat going on about the delay - https://youtu.be/eJ4MnlJF1NA
I'm glad I don't even know what reddit is.
Not necessarily. That depends on the news. Like I said, I respect Jason and Kotaku. They've had a lot of solid work. Certainly work I follow. But some investigative journalism just does more harm than good. In this case, it just caused a bunch of noise. What was the benefit of publishing the story other than site traffic? What did this story do other than cause confusion?
I run a youtube channel primarily focused on the game. The comment section was pretty hectic, confused, and even a bit angry when I talked about it two nights ago. Not very common in the core No Man's Sky community.
Well, it's good that it's releasing before the big AAA games start hitting. Should still get plenty of attention.
Reddit is the worst.
I frequent that subreddit and I can say that its usually pretty good. A pretty welcoming community actually. But man did the fucking crazies come out this week. I think the mod actually corrext that wording to make it sound less crazyI'm glad I don't even know what reddit is.
Looks like it's populated by clownshoes.
Isnt Kotaku blacklisted by Bethesda and Ubisoft for this very reason? For basically spoiling two major AAA titles that the publishers would have rather kept secret until they could reveal the surprise themselves? I mean, Im one of the biggest Ubi haters on this board, but I kinda agree with them, even though a full on blacklisting seems extreme.Citation needed.
Pls provide example of how knowing the truth causes harm.
You are suggesting that without a date, the audience can't handle the news. I'm here to tell you I can and everyone should be able to.You're absolutely right about the community aspect. Wow. Why do people care THAT much? It was an article.
Do they think Kotaku hurt Hello Games' feelings?
They think Kotaku and Jason caused the delay (or "magnified" it)
Again, you imply that they intended to not say, when one of the main points of the story was that they havnt landed on a new date yet. Sony coming out and saying "yeah we're delayed, dont know till when though" would have been light years worse than Jason breaking the story.
He could have alerted people weeks ago before telling retailers. Just as he could have told people he wasn't going to make 2015, instead of telling people "it's a secret." If he feels bad, it's more about money and the product, not about us. If he cared about what the players actually thought, he'd have been honest sooner. Which is fine. He owns a company, it's about making money. But don't pretend it's anything else.
overall it's pretty awful since they have the same hands off attitude towards harassment and toxic behavior that twitter has. so when you have a site full of shitlords who can influence things with votes you tend to get mostly shitlord quality content. it's a poor philosophy that permeates most of the site. kotaku in action is a thing that's allowed to exist, for example. Is reddit literally full of complete and utter retards?

but there are specific subreddits that that well moderated and generally okay. usually they're ones that are about a very narrow topic. like a single game.

Do they think Kotaku hurt Hello Games' feelings?
They can't blame Hello Games because they're the devs making the game they crave. So they blame the person who found out that the game was delayed. Classic transference. No, I got that.
I just.
I can't.
It's full of people that think being able to be racist, sexist, and pedophilic needs a safe haven on the internet.
So yes.

Maybe will get it after release if reviews are positive.

If it was a serious issue, it probably wouldn't take a month and a half to fix and would have more so been delayed to 2017.
A game going gold, manufacturing, and shipping to warehousing for distribution to retail alone takes 3 weeks in of itself.
What "serious" issues you think a small dev with an ambitious project would manage to fix in a mere 4 weeks prior to gold.
Just something to think about.
That's faulty reasoning.
Certification and retail release take about a month but they would have had to have done that before the delay too.
Unless the delay was because they failed cert, they have 7 extra weeks of development.
I feel the same way man.I think this quote is one of the dumbest things, but I wanted to get ahead of the crowd and post it before it starts getting spammed.
I feel the same way man.
Sean Murray stated in a recent announcement that the delay was for the sake of polishing the game further.
Of course people could read further into this implied statement and assume his statement for polishing the game further actually means fixing a serious problem, but that would be conspiracy theory crafting and making this issue bigger than it really is.
You can either take Sean Murray at his word that the game was pretty much done but he wanted just some additional polishing to bring it to his standards, or assume he's a liar and there is a bigger underlying issue at hand.
Considering this is the same Sean Murray that managed to fix Burnout 3 during his time at Criterion and introduce the Take Down Cams into the game in matter of days, I'm more inclined to believe the statement that NMS simply needs some additional polishing and not fixing some "serious problem"
This delay does not have me worried at all. Now if it was 6 months more or something I might be a little worried.
These comparisons are getting ridiculous, tarring all reddit users with the same brush is simply foolish, there are some shitty subreddits, there are some great subreddits, just like there are some shitty posters on Gaf and some great posters. It's an internet discussion platform, not a group think way of life.
