Where do you stand on No Man's Sky?

Think it looks like a good concept. However procedural stuff and apparent lack of major story line has me thinking I will buy it the second it gets psvr support or when it reaches £20, whatever comes first.

I will never understand the Spore comparisons....not even close to the same game guys.

Like, not even in the same ballpark.

Anyway, I've got the limited edition preordered and paid off.

When the guy who made it couldn't even describe what the game was about, why would I be interested. Shocking early reveals of this game by any standard. Even drying paint would get bored listening to the creator of this game.

first I was kind of interested, but that was when they announced it. Since then all the interest has been replaced by some kind of indifference towards it.

I'm of the opinion that basically every game that promises lots of freedom and endless customization/variety ends up being Fable or Spore. I'd like to be wrong, but that's where I see this going.

LE preordered and ready to dive in. Thinking about taking the day off, but already have the day before scheduled and will be out of the country the week after.

I think it will be a very good game, but not live up to the hype they generated with marketing. I'll probably wait a bit for the unavoidable outcry of how overhyped it was, then see what more level-headed people think of it.

I'll definitely get, maybe not on D1 though. Met the "original" Hello Games guys a good few back when they did promo for Joe Danger. They were very nice and happy we spent some time with them because nobody was really interested in the game.
Also I'm a sucker for procedural content ever since I discovered Dwarf Fortress and developed a kind of academical interest in the matter so I owe to that interest alone to play this game.
Yet honestly I expect the game to review very poorly. The community at large has built up way too much hype. The game will not be able to satisfy all these expectations.

Going to buy it on Steam one day before it releases.

I look forward to it, it looks like a game you can play at your own pace, and thankfully without some forced PvP interrupting things. It's going to be fun to just chil on a space station and watch the traffic, or go exploring on a planet that's in everyone else's game... but I got there first. And then get mauled by space tigers. Then name the planet "Beware of Space Tigers".

I don't expect the game to be an all out action game, and that's okay. Slower, more peaceful, but still with moments of tension styled games are nice to have, too.

Had pre-ordered when it was part of the $10 gift certificate promo via Best Buy.

After the delay to August, I got cold feet and cancelled the pre-order. BB also took it off their promo, so now will play a wait-and-see approach.

A wait and see position.

I'm still not entirely sure what all there is to do in the game, and I'm curious as to just how diverse the game really is since the planets are procedurally generated. So far, I get the impression that I wouldn't put much time into the game and it would just be a waste of money, so I'm waiting for player impressions and reviews.

Same here. I'll be glued to the OT when this game launches.

I think people are saying that the games will have the same fate (highly anticipated game with enormous potential that falls flat on it's face), not that the games are the same thing content-wise.

Where do I stand?

Well I have it pre orderd and that may or may not be cancelled.

In the grand scheme of things this game wont be a big seller at all. It is hyped on neogaf and gaming forums but it ends there. We are a select bunch, a sliver of the gaming population that eats gaming media up on the daily. This wont sell to the average person and I doubt they have even heard about the game. I think we are are own worst enemy because we put this game on a platform it does not deserve to be on from what we have seen.

Its getting the same treatment as a guaranteed hit with the amount of attention its getting. There is no way it will be in the end and it will fade in the endless proceduraly generated future. I suspect review scores and reaction similar to The Order 1886
or worse

They revealed it years too early and it might actually bomb because of that. Imagine releasing with the kind of hype it had for the first year. Now it seems like almost no one cares.

I still don't see anything beyond a proof of concept that might be fun for a few hours, but then again I haven't really been following the game. Maybe it's actually mind-blowing.

From the very little footage I've seen it just doesn't look enjoyable to me and isn't the kind of game I would usually be interested in.

That said I'm definitely gonna check out people streaming it after release and see if it's something I would enjoy.

I want to see some more intense combat first. I know it is not the main focus of the game but if I can't be a space pirate I am much less interested.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

I mean it may not be purchased by the masses, but the game has been shown on The Late Show which is quite crazy.

What does this even mean?

I literally forgot it was still coming out until I saw this thread. Sony hasn't talked about it in a very hot minute. Anyway, I'll probably get it day one if the reviews are likin it.

I fail to see how things aren't looking good. It makes all the sense in the world that this game would be delayed as much as it's been. It's one of the most ambitious games out there and it's being made by a tiny team. Seriously, Hello Games is 15 strong.

I've always felt and still feel that this game looks incredibly cool and has the potential to be the same kind of relaxing and exploratory experience that Minecraft has been for me in the past, but I absolutely feel like it is going to be a victim of it's own hype because I see way too many people who want way more from the game than it has any intention to deliver.

I'm quite sure that Hello Games are feeling this pressure real hard right now.

Even then, aren't there better examples of games like that?

Simcity comes to mind, Daikatana, etc.

I think people hear "procedural" and immediately think Spore for some reason. It's odd.

Haven't been following it because even if it's great it's not the kind of game I'd spend any significant amount of time with. Feels like it has the potential to be the next Spore. Hopefully it's good, because good games are a good thing.

Spore also had lots of promises. They're not terrible comparisons and I don't get why it's bothering you in the first place.

Unless you are interested in blogging your experience online with the active community, I don't see the long term charm... honestly they should have included mechanisms for that right in the game...

There will be a heavy race between a few people to reach the center first and reveal to the world what it is. For a short while this will be exciting and the gaming community and media will be all over it... but once it happens, interest in the game may die immediately.

I have a half-paid preorder on the game, but only because when I did it there wasn't much else to choose from. But right now there are a wave of games and JRPGs releasing this year I'm MUCH more interested in, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to move that money.

More interested in Dual Universe now. Looks far more interesting to me.

What does this even mean?

the fact that people are excited for what has been promised to us without a real guarantee is the issue. If you where to list out the features in a bullet point fact sheet the game seems remarkable, unlike anything else we have seen and pales every other open word we have experienced.

but what we have seen it does not.

Sure, this may be an opinion but I am not alone. A game this big, this dense and with so many "things" to do they could release a UBI/GTA style play though trailer to highlight each "thing" but they are not. Its not because they are keeping it a surprise, its because each feature is fundamentally as basic as it sounds on paper.

Space pirate - you can blow up a ship and catch their floating loot.

My feelings about this game are procedurally generated.

Day one limited edition pre-ordered but my expectations are in check

I think it's going to have a really shitty gameplay loop.

to clarify gameplay loop: it looks like your standard survival game skinnerbox + the combat that they showed looked really shallow and the flying controls look really shallow.
The fact that there is zero permanence makes anything you do even more meaningless

Not a fan of procedural generation in general either

People looking forward to this game should try empyrion : galactic survival

that game is everything this game isn't (build bases, design and build ships and vehicles from scratch, build your own mobile space carrier base, deformable terrain that is actually permanent, take over enemy bases and make them yours, coop)

Yeesh, if these games are comparable in your mind in quality...

I don't understand why a first person exploration game keeps getting compared to an RTS/RPG hybrid, that's pretty much it.

The games have nothing in common besides having "promises"? So they share that with basically every game ever made?

Based on what we've seen, I expect it to be the kind of thing where I really dig it for about ten hours and then lose interest. Depends on how much of an overarching Thing there is to the game. Like, simple exploration is great, but it's something I'd get tired of eventually.

Pretty much where I stood as soon as info and videos started coming out. Interested and with pre-orders for both PC and PS4.
I like collecting stuff, I love the look of it, I like the theme of it and so on.
No hype, as usual. Hype is such a negative thing. It will be what it is and that's that.
Since I've never speculated about it or hyped it up I will be happy with whatever it is as long as it isn't buggy and laggy.

Just let me fly a spaceship and look at silly creatures on odd planets in a pretty art style and I'll be happy.

Got on the Amazon CE deal way back when it went live. Still in it for day 1, can't freaking wait to explore!

But you listed simcity as a better alternative?

Sure. You're gonna keep seeing the spore comparisons though.
