See I wouldn't be surprised if the XBox console (if ends up happening) is roughly comparable to the PS5 Pro except Zen 5 and faster memory.
Ripping off the Switch isn't a bad idea. Getting Series S performance in a portable won't be cheap tho.

It's own goal after own goal for MS if the rumour of an early Xbox Series successor are true. What does that say to their dwindling number of fans who invested in the S/X? That they don't fully support their own hardware. A 5.5-6 year gen is two years cut short.
And that's not even to mention this multiplatform shift and how that kills most of any remaining demand right now for Xbox worldwide.

Yeah, good luck with that. Not even a 4090 can guarantee that.
Be very happy if you get a stable 60fps in the games struggling with that today (Dragons Dogma 2 etc)

I think it's a combination of sales are slumping so hard that it doesn't matter and wanting to mostly get out of the subsidy game. I doubt they abandon the S/X owners. It's like a Pro console except they will market it as new gen.

Also, the one who flinches first (in this case MS) may not win simply because the one who goes after that controls the narrative, they can then announce when it suits them and just beat out any spec and/or price because both will be known well beforehand

I said this back in Aug so this is nothing new but when I was given a heads up about the nextbox they even said MS wanted to do something different and not launch in the same window as the PS6
Shows you how Sony is dominating the market when others are forced into trying to avoid the same sales window

It does but I just have the feeling they need to try something vastly different.
Here's an idea, it would be interesting if there was 'some' truth to the handheld rumours, think Switch but way more powerful in both docked and undocked modes, think of it like 2 GPU's, one for the handheld and one for the dock and when docked it can use both (SLI-like, if they can find a way around bandwidth issues). Just spit-balling for fun, but that would be different while still remaining competitive power-wise to potential Switch 2 and PS5 Pro.

Yup, could sell it as a bundle or just handheld on its own (and purchase the dock afterwards if you want to upgrade)
You cover both ends of the spectrum of affordable and expensive, powerful enough and really powerful, handheld and home console

I just played through Jedi Survivor in quality mode and it was a technical mess. Looked great but really bad on those terms. It'd be nice if they can get it to 60fps but it would need a patch, and then I wouldn't be surprised if you start seeing devs target an even higher level of fidelity while keeping the game at 30fps. This is a race that new hardware can't outrun, ever.

That's gonna be a disaster. It's gonna be more expensive than the PS5Pro and Switch 2 obviously. They are being outsold heavily with discounts of $100 cheaper than the PS5 , you guess what will happen when they are $100 more expensive...

I would very much love that instead of having to find creative ways to use my desktop with the TV in a different room (soon on a different floor), a console that isn't held down by being an inexpensive box.
But then, who would support that if the numbers aren't there?
I seriously believe the only way forward for MS is to create Windows consoles with a stripped-down version of Windows that starts fast, suspends/resumes properly, and runs all the games Windows can run. MS might already be working on a "handheld mode" which should do pretty much the same, nothing is stopping them from doing something similar to SteamOS with Windows.
Then you can buy the box or just use your desktop.

That's the only real good incentive in having it. I'd personally like to see something like the Matrix demo running comfortably at 60fps.

I think it would be akin to the situation currently with XSS and current PS5 dynamic. ps5 is like 3x more powerful than XSS and 200 more expensive, still outsell it like crazy. So if there was a 3x power different with pro and next box at a 200 premium we know how that plays out. ( one variable is the pro might enter a separate demographic with price if its too high)

Would be pretty nuts if Sony put out a Pro with a Zen 2 that can't do GTAVI @ 60fps when it releases, then a little over a year later Xbox put out a semi-next-gen box early with Zen 5 that is the only console that can do it at 60fps (or, depending on how long the PC version takes, the only place to play it at 60fps for a time). Might be quite the curve ball.
Everything would really fall out of sync as PS6 will then come 1-2yrs later a node or two and probably a Zen/RDNA gen ahead and reclaim that power crown.

The optics of "we're a premium brand now with premium pricing for the hardware". Hardware that is updated in much shorter cycles to be more close with PC advancements. Essentially, "Xbox is the best place to play your GTA's, your Ubisoft Open Worlds and you Call Of Duty's"

we have some decent stuff to go with already a gpu with ratser power in the 7800xt range give or take a bit but with rt power likely a bit above a 7900xtx, either same speed 20gbs ram or higher speed same 16gbs. the main thing we cant confirm is whats happening with the cpu*Checks thread for leaks*

Yup, some strange posts in here about joining MS if they go early, increasing specs to ensure GTA VI at 60.
All because MS is struggling to sell consoles. lol
MS can start early and have much better specs and a promise you Sony would not suffer because of it.

That would probably require a redesign of the CPU to add TSVs and maybe some tweaks to the memory controller.
More realistically, it the 3700X on the PS5 Pro were to have the full 16+16MB of L3, it would a decent bump in performance.
