Nintendo consoles sell based on Nintendo IP, they don't need to be powerful, so making a console powerful enough to need a $499 price tag would just hurt sales, no point. They could do an LCD $399 and OLED $499 though.

Anything higher than $399 will be a tough call for Nintendo despite whatever other people says.
Agree. These guys are going to make millions of them unlike whatever competition they make be compared to in the PC space. Steam Deck has sold multiple millions but it's not on the level of a console or Nintendo handheld.

That's why I expect Nintendo to get better margins and anything over 400 would be too much.

A 5 year old Tegra and garbage bin LCD ain't gonna be no $500, come'on man.
Oh course it will, Nintendo has their profit margins to protect.

I am selling Nintendo Switch this week, have PS5 and a Steam Deck. Frankly, I will probably stay exclusively with handhelds PCs going forward.

499$ will be a disaster for Nintendo.
I think they can get away with $399+ initially.

But if it's significantly above $399 and closer to $499 for a while after launch then it could possibly hurt.

I do wonder if cost is the main factor behind why they are stiill waiting to launch this, in hopes the can get it cheaper.

Steam Deck at $399 is possibly losing money. I don’t think Nintendo will do the same, they’ll go for margins, that’s why I think the system won’t be as powerful as many still believe.

People thought the same with the current price point for the switch.
People had the 3DS as reference, but since it’s an hybrid and it launched with a lot of decent software people really dig into it.

And they also launched a model at $200 when the system was at around 2 years and a half.

going for a system at $399 or higher will be a high risk this time.

The advantage of the Switch being a hybrid console is that it consolidated Nintendo’s development efforts onto one platform. This will remain true for the Switch 2, even if it is priced at $499. This is actually a better deal compared to having to buy both the 3DS and the Wii U at launch. If the Switch 2 is unexpectedly powerful and has strong launch support, I don’t see $499 being an issue. It could also mean parity in third party support, game quality and features with other consoles, which would be incredible.

There is zero chance that a Nintendo will make a loss making console/handheld. The next version will be obsolete hardware at the time of release like the Switch. As Nintendo can get away with this, they can source the parts cheap and sell cheaper (keeping a nice profit margin while having a consumer friendly sales price)

Anyone wanting a Nintendo machine for power is smoking crack, Nintendo sells on IP built over decades. The biggest worry for them is if they give the next hybrid a obscure name like Wii U thay confuse the public. Switch 2 needs to be the name so people know it's a new generation and not think it's a fucking add on (cough Wii U cough).

You can open a thread saying OCP analyst Dick Jones thinks the above. Cheers.

Just seen a summary from Joseki on installbase and this isn't based on any inside knowledge from Hideki:

Nintendo Q1 in line with expectations
- Personally forecasting 12.5m Switch shipped this FY but matching Nintendo forecast (13.5m) not impossible
- Stronger yen and panic reaction from investors can affect future stock movement (strong yen can cause stock price to drop)
- Switch 2 expected H1 next year and under $499.99 (no inside info, just reporting the rumors)
- Speculates Switch 2 price in Japan will be around 30% cheaper than the equivalent US price
- Such a price would stimulate exports

The price of electronics stuff is unfortunately going up and not down. Both Sony and Microsoft are not being able to significantly reduce BOM costs of now old 2020 devices.
Nintendo also doesn't want to sell hardware at a loss.
Even if the Switch 2 won't be a powerhouse the price will be in the 399-499$ range.

I'd also question the fact it seems they will miss Q1 for the launch but a launch in April-June is risky because they will face the inevitable loss of momentum due to the summer months just after launch. When these situations happen usually things are delayed to fall in September.

I'm also interested to see if there is a new gimmick in store with the system or it's basically just a more powerful Switch.

I bought a Jap switch on ebay for my nieces when they were hardish to get. Not scalper priced, 300 or so in November 2017. I could see a lot of people flipping them on ebay if they truly are 30% less.

This is likely one of the factors making Switch and PS5 sales high in Japan right now.

Realistically, the Switch 2 will still be supply-constrained for months after launch, even if Nintendo is better prepared to meet demand than they were with the current Switch, so I doubt they're worried about a loss of momentum. If anything, launching during a traditionally slow period could help them more evenly distribute demand throughout the year. I don't see how launching the Switch 2 in April or May would be that different than launching the OG Switch in March.

Also, all of you motherfuckers in this thread who are freaking out and acting like the title says "Switch 2 will be $499" need to either learn to read or switch to a discussion format that isn't text-based.

This thing is going to be more powerful than many think.

I hope
Doubtful. I'll be surprised if it beats the current ROG Ally. It'll be about PS4 level with maybe some basic raytracing capabilities since it's nvidia. To be honest that's plenty powerful to make great games and the battery life will be much better than a ROG Ally but the thing is that Nintendo will vastly overcharge for it like they always do. Also, expect the cheapest, shittiest screen possible for the initial model.

Even if it won't be faster than rog alles which I highly doubt, it will have better results with dlss enabled.

With a 499 usd price tag the target audience would be older on average, not many parents will spend so much money on a new console for their child.

But hey, Nintendo said they want to meet demand and avoid a similar scalper situation, wit a price tag of 499 they will archive that goal and once there are more consoles than demand, they can lower the price…

People said exactly the same with the first switch. I mean its possible but come on.

I’m tired of all the switch pro and switch 2 rumors at this point… It’s not going to feel real when this thing finally comes out.

My bet is no one knows nothing about it really. Just speculation based on common sense.
1h2025 is known date stated by Nintendo themselves. (But they didn't say it's release date. they say before this date no Switch 2 news)
Price under $500? Come on...Of course it will be under 500!
What next? New console can play Nintendo games and there will be Mario and Zelda on it sort of news? Lol
