IGN will give it an 8.
If you’re “tired” of these games, don’t play them. But don’t act like they’re some overdone trend when Western settings have been copy pasting themselves for decadesKinda getting tired of these Japanese and Chinese 'history' RPG/ fighting games. Been so many over the last few years
Sekiro, Ghost of Tsushima, Black Myth WuKong, Rise of Ronin, Wo Long, Nioh, Dynasty Warrions.........now....Ass Creed Shadows and then Ghost of Yotei
Can't they come up with something new?
I'd love to be surprised by this, but going off the footage on Youtube it looks dated and clunky - the systems don't look particularly developed or different enough to what we've played in previous AC games. Graphics look good but the gameplay is stale now. I just find the prospect of the map and levelling exhausting.
IGN 9/10
EDGE 7
SkillUp: I did NOT enjoy Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Yeah, not 10/10, but solid 8.5 IMO. I liked the rogue like stuff married to the dishonored gameplay, and it was fun to plan it all out. Customizing abilities was a fun time tooDeathloop was ok. Felt like the cut down version of something much more ambitious and interesting.
It was a decent 7.5, but not a 10/10 lmao. It was totally forgotten at game award time which says it all.
Does anyone actually think reviews of this game will be honest? It's all going to be "Ubisoft had so much courage to tell the stunning true story of the black samurai Yasuke"
They needed a bit more time with it.Yeah, not 10/10, but solid 8.5 IMO. I liked the rogue like stuff married to the dishonored gameplay, and it was fun to plan it all out. Customizing abilities was a fun time too
It won like 5 different GOTY awards (Edge, Empire, GameSpot, GamesRadar+, and The Daily Telegraph) and took home multiple awards at TGAs though. It definitely wasn't starved for accolades
"What was once pale and stale now gets an exotic new air of freshness"the gameplay is stale now.
Surely you understand the difference between presenting something as factual (that probably isn't), vs having a totally made up fictional character. Right? You know I kept thinking about this and why people are going nuts about Yaskue's inclusion.

Who is Yasuke, the real-life Black samurai at the center of the new video game ‘Assassin's Creed Shadows’? A Japanese history expert explains
Little is known about him, yet Yasuke has popped up in all kinds of pop culture. Why is his inclusion in Assassin's Creed so controversial?news.northeastern.edu
And then there's nothing wrong with Afro Samurai? Which depicts futuristic science fiction fantasy of the Sengoku period.
Agree to disagre, ubisoft making better combat than nioh studio? Not even in 1000 years.Combat looks better than Ronin to me, especially because of the options you have, be it weapons or abilities or playstyles. I got the plat in Ronin, it won’t be hard for Shadows to beat it in story and I also don’t expect it to have so many characters that you don’t give a shit about anyone.
what time the reviews drop ?
Another example of videogame awards being a useless metric if deathloop can even get close to sniff one, let alone winning 5.Yeah, not 10/10, but solid 8.5 IMO. For a game like this I can only rely on reviews from Synthetic Man or Endymion or Critical Drinker.![]()
Origins had a great story.Agree to disagre, ubisoft making better combat than nioh studio? Not even in 1000 years.
Also disagree on assassins not having a large cast if characters that you don't give 2 fucks about if the last 3 games are anything to go by
When was the last time that an ac game had an actual good story? Black flag maybe?
...sure.Origins had a great story.
I actually agree it isn't GOTY material like Dishonored 2 is (best arcane game, don't @ me). 2021 should have gone to Metroid Dread (too niche unfortunately) or RE Village (horror games always get snubbed).Another example of videogame awards being a useless metric if deathloop can even get close to sniff one, let alone winning 5.
(And i freaking love arkane)
Do you think it actually matters for these people? I highly doubt it.Surely you understand the difference between presenting something as factual (that probably isn't), vs having a totally made up fictional character. Right?
It was a 7 at best in a correct score scale, and 2021 must have been a shit year if dread and especially village were goty candidates, it was the year when infinite won goty here on gaf, so yeah, not a good yearI actually agree it isn't GOTY material like Dishonored 2 is (best arcane game, don't @ me). 2021 should have gone to Metroid Dread (too niche unfortunately) or RE Village (horror games always get snubbed).
But people also low ball it too IMO. Too many extremes. As far as immersive sims go, it's close to the bottom of the list. Still, enjoyable enough to where I don't feel good about rating it in the same scale as your usual Assassins Creed game. At the very least an 8 IMO
Do you think it actually matters for these people? I highly doubt it.
Btw, where were they 22 years ago?

Oh wait, I get it, it's different now and okay to shit on everything and create drama out of thin air, whereas before it wasn't possible.

Social media didn’t exist 22 years ago and I vividly remember endless jokes about that film staring a white guy back then.Do you think it actually matters for these people? I highly doubt it.

These jokes can fuck right off. It's one of the best movies I've seen in my life and I absolutely don't care if it doesn't have anything to do with reality cuz it's a piece of entertainment first and foremost, just like video games.and I vividly remember endless jokes about that film staring a white guy back then.
That's amazing, lol.
Probably the best marketing for the game yet.
It is super cool.
I could not have the sound since im at work but i had all those old grindhouse sound effects in my head.
Thanks Brazil for bringin some levity to all this.
Even those take a while to adjust to reality. There were plenty of people posting positive reviews of Veilguard with 2 hours played. As someone in another thread mentioned, Steam review scores are the most honest, it has how many hours someone plays the game when they give a review, hard to manipulate that. Unlike other ways to review a game where it will either be manipulated in the game's favor or bias against it.
When the game hits Steam and has been out for a month, we'll get to see what the game really is like.

You don't have to engage with all the characters in ronin tho...Ronin isn’t Nioh. Either way, the combat in the games are going for completely different things.
I’m sure Shadows will have a lot of characters, but they won’t be integrated into the story and require interaction like in Ronin.
Shadows can have a decent story and that’ll still be better than Ronin.
I enjoyed Ronin. I’m expecting Shadows to be a good bit better.
I’m just here for the schadenfreude.Quite funny how there's more hype for the reviews than the actual game.
Social media didn’t exist 22 years ago and I vividly remember endless jokes about that film staring a white guy back then.
Yeah. Also Tom Cruise is not the titular Samurai. That's Ken Watanabe, a Japanese man, and his clan of Japanese Samurai.
What are you suggesting? It is almost guaranteed it will score well with big review ad agencies.
They gave it a 9.IGN will give it an 8.
I miss him man he was funny and spoke truthThanks for posting Paul Mooney's take
Of course people found the movie problematic on some aspects at the time, unlike someone said in the thread. It was just said in a much less obnoxious way.
Me too...I miss him man he was funny and spoke truth
