Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Well, it was to be expected since all AC games have this shit, I don't like it one bit, it feels completely out of place in a 100% SP game and I won't be wasting my time on any of this. They're trying too hard to be GaaS and it just doesn't fit or work for SP only games AT ALL. Like, can you imagine playing AC Origins (for example) for 1000 hrs (even 88 was a torture) to play through all these daily and weekly quests to unlock shit you don't even need. Just fuckin' get rid of all this crap already, Ubisoft.

Is there an EXP boost DLC in this one like the last few?

I'm assuming the real scores will make themselves apparent in 4-6 weeks when these outlets go from "it's a solid return to form" to "AC sold poorly because it's bad".

Smells like Dragon Age all over again.

Ubisofts future solvency isn't the responsibility of games media.
Typically once I see "return to form" or "love letter" talk I'm out as far as listening to the person/review.

If there is, it wasn't available for reviewers, moreover, they couldn't even buy shit in the store to begin with. Origins even now has these BS "time savers" in the store, 7+ fuckin' years later.

I paid the blood money for the exp booster in Odyssey. It's $5 for a permanent XP booster to your profile.

Honestly it made the game a lot more enjoyable, lol.

Haven't played an Assassin's Creed since Valhalla and dropped that after less than 10 hours. The preview looked pretty good so I'm considering buying this on Steam since it's day 1. I've always wanted an AAA AC and I never played Rogue. So I'm kinda biased at this point and might actually give in. I'm guessing launching this on Steam will still have you open Ubisoft Connect?

I mean thats the whole point of these pay2win mechanics....design the game unenjoyable...sell stuff to make it enjoyable. And than people wonder why Ubi gets all the "harassment" from players. 🤷‍♂️

Yes it requires Ubisoft Connect.
I see no reason to buy it when you can rent it for a month and finish it via ubisoft plus for fraction of the price. Then if you really need to own it, you can just get it on sale.

So basically Ubisoft just continue their current gen trend of samey slop with nice graphics:
Frontiers of Pandora, SW Outlaws and now this.
I guess at least they focused on adding nice graphics. To me it felt like Ubisoft has stuck to the same formulas for a long, long time now.

I mean yeah. Frontiers of Pandora maxed out on PC is still one of the best looking games of the gen, and Outlaws is probably the best that Star Wars has ever looked in videogame format.

But it also makes you think how things might have turned out for them if they focused more on making games that are fun to play instead of nice to look at (at 30fps on console ...or on an expensive PC).

"The Return To Form" must be banned for use by all games media when reviewing video games. It's nothing more than a joke now rather than an actual thing that happened or was intended to be a thing even. The return to form is when Capcom released a RE2 remake which blew everyone's minds and reminded them that the best things were in the past and you can make them even better while staying true to the original formula. Same goes for the Silent Hill 2 Remake.

How can Shadows be a return to form if the original AC game was nothing like it and a lot more barebones concept of a game which they absolutely killed on the spot by making AC2? Obviously, I haven't played Shadows myself yet, but none of what I seen of it outside of maybe stealth (which reminds me of how they improved and upgraded Splinter Cell stealth system in Chaos Theory) is what I would call a "return to form", if anything, they made a much better game than original AC ever was so they outdone themselves.

That makes two of us cuz I don't even believe myself here:messenger_beaming:

It's anything but predictable, but if you want to make huge and drastic changes, you should always start from the top.

Haha, yeah, it's unfortunate. They've been one of my least favorite devs for a long time because they just don't try to hide the formula being used over and over again. I think Farcry 3 and For Honor were the last two games I REALLY liked from them. I just didn't bother with anything else after until Prince of Persia The Lost Crown because it felt like the most creative thing they did in awhile, and I loved it quite a bit. Funny that they killed off that studio, it's like they're allergic to doing anything different anymore.

I bought it too even though I know I shouldn’t be supporting stuff like that. The game would’ve been so grindy and tedious without it.

That was actually why I don't give a crap about this series anymore. The options were buy this XP boost or play 1000s of boring and stupid side quest. Only Ubisoft can come up with a DLC that players pay to get through their boring games quicker.
