Avowed from Obsidian Entertainment is the Xbox’s latest first-party title. The game is already praised, giving it a decent Metacritic score. Today, we have discovered that the title has surpassed the likes of Xbox’s previous first-party title, Indiana Jones.

According to mindGame data estimations, in the first month, Avowed generated 5.9 million players worldwide, while Indiana Jones had only 4 million players. Hence, Avowed gained almost 2 million more players from the detective puzzle adventure title.

The data estimation was derived by considering Gamepass users, Steam concurrent players, the game’s search volume, and others. While it does not give fully accurate figures compared to the official one, it still gives a good idea of how the game is performing.

This explains why they were "happy" with the results or whatnot - that's 50% better than Indiana. Granted I don't put much stock in "engagement" for keeping studios open, but we'll see what happens. I think the game will continue to sell on platforms such as Steam, just not at a hyper pace or anything. Word of mouth long term will be good on this title.

I think this age of "engagement" metrics is very tricky.. before it was pretty clear with sales if a game did well enough or flopped - engagement is very nebulous and I think it's an awful success metric.

Mindshare, lol?

From Steam:

If we assume even less bought it on Xbox(due to gamepass) then what about static sales? Under 500k? Way less? How many did it sell? Also, 5-9? That's a HUGE gap, it's like saying I way between 150 and 300 pounds. WTF. These numbers are meaningless, but they are trying REALLY hard to convince us this wasn't a flop. I think just the perception that this was a flop might really hurt the studio so they are working on this shit.

Idk which game I like more, Indy or Avowed, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Avowed is much more popular. An action RPG has more appeal than an adventure game.

Which is a shame. The video game is light years better than both of those movies and temple of doom.
Temple was pretty good. The game was also very good. And it’s a shame the brand got so damaged.

As to Avowed engagement numbers, eh, considering dev and marketing cost , is ther good? No idea. And the numbers are a total guesswork.

CCU numbers show the game had a broader appeal. I liked Avowed more than Indy myself. Prior to playing, the combat already looked more appealing and that turned to be the case, for me at least.

In their defense, they say this about every Xbox title. Avowed was also supposed to be a woke turd. Indy was supposed to be a woke buggy turd rushed out of the gate to make it “before the end of the year”. Don’t listen to GAF.
That poor three trillion dollar company always getting made fun of. Whatever shall they do? Oh yeah. Get wrecked by the competition and go third party.

Yeah yeah. Mid sucess.
wouldnt it be high success on a mid platform?

Regardless of people's opinions- 5.9 Mil on a new IP existing in a universe from a niche set of games, that isn't a : Roguelike, Souls-bourne, Live service should be celebrated in the time when the industry is having issues justifying ballooning budgets and what not.

Its a solid game with fun mechanics and a relatively interesting story. It doesn't necessarily break the mold but is more than serviceable for like 30-40hours of solid gaming. Like if you enjoyed skyrim, this game is perfect to scratch that itch. All the area's are quasi open work and hand crafted experiences. Thats so much better than the never ending open world crap we are used to these days.
