Played for over 8 hours now and I love the game. Action RPG with cool spells, great exploration, cool puzzles and great art style.

XSX performance mode - frame rate is good about 80% of the time. Cities and fights with a lot going on slow frame rates, especially when turning the camera.

The cities feel really big
About the same amount of time for me and I am really enjoying myself as well. Super fun and not overly complicated.

Fuck making new thread. However, what a gigantic patch. should have postponed 30days and rolled it into release. Jesus. Day 1 patches are asinine anymore.
Is it actually that big?
Steam has recently been showing patched file size instead of download size, you only see the actual download size if you click on the game in your library, the download menu will show the amount of files that need to be patched offline.

This is based in the Pillars of Eternity universe, Godlike beings have always had them. At least they let you turn them off for the player's benefit, since you're not seeing them isometrically only, you see them right up in your face.

All of them look better than we got ffs.

Most surprising thing is the first person combat being preferable to 3rd person for me. They really nailed it inc. magic. Honestly if TES VI adopts some of this I think it would only be a good thing.

IQ is really up and down, sometimes you can see the dithering clearly on alphas like the rats or clouds. Distracting. I really like the hub world design too.

I take it you only see night when you're in the camp yeah

I think it's cool they actually made some effort for the third person.
You might not have notice, but the third person view uses a different movement physics model, if you run and turn sharply, the animation system will actually have you "drift" sideways a bit as the model reorients itself to the direction the camera is facing, and if you turn around sharply completely you'll actually lose all momentum because the animation will attempt to transition into the backwards walking animation; in first person none of this happens, you will always zoom straight to where the camera is pointing and never lose momentum even when spinning wildly.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
I've been playing six hours and been in bright daylight all the time?

Not my picture, found on reddit, but yes it definitely has a day and night cycle outside of camp. It just takes a lot of time, if you camp it seems to reset. One redditor said it took 2 hours of real time for the game to go from dawn to dusk in the game.

Beat the first bear boss. He wiped me many times but the fight is fair, still finding my ground with the mage build and all the shortcuts. I think I'll switch to gun mage whenever I get a good unique gun.

Tutorial is fixed time and then it takes a long time for the starting area to change time. If you camp you'll sadly go back to daytime. I wish they allowed us to prepare at camp and go hunting during the night. Night setting completely changes visual cues for exploration.

God damn the dialog is terrible in this. I can't go on...
At times it feels like someone chopped up the dialogue just to give the player more choices. I am enjoying my time with the game, but I’ve skipped quite a few conversations that dragged on and on.

I switched my weapons to be a greatsword and a pistol that shoots electricity. That has been one of the better parts of the game. I’m still having to level up a bit before some quests. Even if I can duke it out with a couple higher level enemies, there’s always 1 or 2 that will drain you no matter what.

I agree that dialog could be improved...having said that I'm shocked to say I think that might be my ONLY complaint with the game.

and I'm literally just talking about your own character's dialog options. the dialog from other NPCs seems fine. and the story seems perfectly serviceable.

your own character's dialog options seem poor and somewhat lazy compared to the NPCs you interact with. I like that you are giving lots of different options, and you do elicit responses from NPCs that seemed to be tailored to exactly how you respond, I think they could have just done a better job writing lines for the protagonist/your character.

did not expect to love this game nearly as much as I do.

Is this game worth picking up for full price? or should i wait for it to go on sale?
its hard for me to justify paying $70 for a video game, but it's very good IMO.

you don't need to wait for more "polish" like most new major releases. I haven't encountered a single bug.

$70 is a lot, I would probably wait for someone who has played longer than me to respond. I'm cheap when it comes to games though.

I think this is one of the better new games I've played in quite some time (doing a repeat of KCD before KCD2 so haven't tried KCD2 yet)

Absolutely not, i finished it in 27 hours doing almost all sidequests except on the last zone where i just rushed, get 1-2 months on GP on a keys site for like 8€ per month and that's it.

Also it's not the kind of game you'll be playing again in months or years.

The game costs about CDN$ 89.99 for me so i probably will wait for a sale on steam or maybe finally get xbox gamepass pc...

You must be sprinting. This is my time played and this is how much of the second map I've covered.

Yeah I just started in the 3rd zone and even missing some side content in the 2nd I'm at 20 hours. Seems like a good 40 hour game to me.

In other news, I love using a gun to blast those small mushroom guys and they go flying into the distance! Never gets old

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or this game is supposed to be difficult, but after a smooth sailing as a start, I can't win any battles anymore and have to just run away. I don't know if it's because I'm a Wizard so have really weak defense or if I've been skipping the side stuff like upgrades and enchantments, but every time I wander off or fight a boss or even different enemies when I'm out exploring I'm barely denting its health but it kills me in like two hits. But even my healing items don't work. It does that thing where the bar is fully red, but half of it is light red and the other half is dark red. I still don't exactly get whats happening here, maybe I just skipped over the tutorial that explained it or something.

Should I be having this much of an issue with battles? I'm early on, level 7.

I was, with water, ranger, gear and giatta's movespeed buff i felt like i was playing Sonic, but i still explored the whole second and third zone with the 6 totems, and most of the first one too. On the last zone i just skipped totems and all sidequests except the first one and lowered the difficulty because pre day 1 patch the damage difference when an enemy was higher level than your weapon was absurd.

Played the rest of the game in normal difficulty, normally i try to play on the highest difficulties but it's a waste of time on this game, it has the Starfield-Cyberpunk syndrome where it adds nothing but a 2000% HP buff to the enemies.

Also skipped conversations with Marius and the girl that looks like a JRPG character quickly, and for Giatta at the end, i liked her at first but after a few weird conversations i stopped caring.

Same for the texts on sidequests as soon as the NPC asked me to go kill someone, or get some herb, or find a friend that got lost somewhere, i did enough of these quests on MMO's already

The enemie's health does not increase much on harder difficulty.

On the max difficulty my headshots hit for 270, on the easiest one they do for 1550, seems like they are 1,5x tankier on each difficulty levelexcept on the hardest one where they are 2,5x over Hard.

And i'd say the damage nerf for having a lower level weapon than the enemy's level made it even worse on early access, they patched it on day 1 tho

I was stupid and i sold my unique bow, i had a normal bow on the max level, but only uniques can get to level 5 it seems because it told me my bow was maxed, so on the last zone, the level 5 enemies were just sponges, not funny at all.

Doesn't help that last 2 zones got pretty much the same enemies, so it's the same combats except that you both are level 3-4-5 instead of 1-2, yea mages get some new spells i think, summoners can summon that flying totem, but overall it doesn't feel satisfactory to search for more chests at the end to be able to deal the same damage you were doing on the third map vs the same enemies with a different level.
