Avowed | Review Thread

Ehh I’m not sure about that. Look at other high scoring RPGs from this gen like BG3, Phantom Liberty, Elden Ring, Metaphor: ReFantazio, etc. Were those games made to cater to reviewers instead of gamers?

And just reading the reviews it sounds like this game has the same “decent but not great” energy that Outer Worlds had
Thats cause few of them are actual 95 meta games.

I think only Elden Ring cuts it for me.

BG3 90 max.
Metaphor 85 max
Phantom Liberty - yet to play. Base game doesn’t give me confidence it will get there.

Maybe one day but after a couple of reviewers I like they say they fumbled on what makes an Obsidian RPG special and that the world is so static, I ain’t paying premium.

I wonder if NPCs are like this in Avowed

I remember when people used to whine that fully voice-acted RPG may mean that dialogues are cut short... Then Pillars of Eternity 1 came with its unhinged verbal diarrhea, offering a perfect example of why that isn't always a bad thing.
And in fact POE 2 went "full voice acting" and it was immediately for the better (still a bit overly-verbose at times, but to a far lesser degree).

Dude I'm really disappointed for a bit now. But I ain't automatically supporting anything. I went with the information I had in previews. Reviews end up changing that, especially the ones I had a bit more trust in. Shit happens. I just finished KCD 1 a couple days ago, started Enshrouded coop with a friend. Might insert KCD 2 sooner than expected although I'm a bit overwhelmed by sim-RPG.

You’re a complete and total moron if you look at those sites and can’t see their biases. Same for all of the PlayStation sites that inflate scores for PS exclusives and Nintendo sites that give higher than average scores for anything out of Kyoto.

So why don’t YOU “grow the actual fuck up” and learn some critical thinking skills. Then, take your assumptions that I’m not interested in the game and shove them up your ass.

Fucking pathetic ass fanboy.

Man take your chill pill. Insults are not allowed in this forum and we are all better than that

Hmm, interesting set of reviews and reactions. People have their agendas, and it shows in how they parse the reviews, positive or negative. My own bias is that I'd like the game to be good/decent, although I'm not expecting a masterpiece. I would like a decent, bite-sized WRPG (vs. a vast open-world epic). Low 80s was what I expected.

I'm not seeing anything yet about the game's story or characters being "woke," so perhaps we can put that concern to bed.

It's odd that some reviewers describe the game as relatively easy (e.g., "comfort food") and others, like the Gamespot reviewer, describe the combat as difficult or at least onerous, given the limitations of the upgrade system.

Haha, good one.

What bullshit narrative? Go on genius, I'm all ears. The Game's reviewed well. End of. You then decided to stick your fucking oar in and have a swipe. And then you're playing it day one? Absolute schizo nonsense.

Anyway the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, not my words, the words of what car magazine. So what's the problem exactly???

Game is reviewing pretty well and you are thumping your warrior bible about Sony's financials as if there is any relation at all there? That's one of the worst console warrior takes I've seen in a review thread in a while. Congrats.

Seems like medieval Outer Worlds. It’s up my alley so I’ll enjoy more than the reviewers but with KCD2 going to take the next few months of my time I doubt I’ll want to play this right after so will be a while.

IGN review video is cancer. They opted for the first chunk of it to use 30fps footage in some of the ugliest areas ever…

Clearly clueless video editors.

Yeah, I remember the multiple instances of reviewers pointing out Dragon Age's wokeness.

Wait, that didn't happen.

I'm still waiting to find out what comes after "End of." The suspense is killing me. He should write for Obsidian.

I might give this a shot. I never could get into ES/FO (FP), but this is on gamepass so why not.

It's interesting that some say the combat is really good. That's the #1 selling point for me.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
For the folks who are only here and not the OT, the console version(s) have multiple performance options too.

The comment about it being 30fps only was something lost in translation in that interview.

IGN gave it a 7/10 in their video review.

Lack of enemy variety , and no enemy respawn can make it so you’re walking through vast open areas with nothing going on for very long stretches. Nothing new here for the genre.

But no bugs, runs awesome, fun combat, great writing, great looking environments, well done side characters.

Sounds like a more than 7/10. 8/10 based off the context of what they put into the video.

Sounds like my kind of game!

Looking at the video reviews, it strucks me just how ugly the game looks aesthetically in all its aspects.

It is such a clear contrast to KCD2 - where KCD2 is an example of clear insane talent combined with hard work, Avowed is a clear example of insane anti-talent combined with hard work.

Anyway, since it is in gamepass I will give it a chance, but my enthusiasm dropped quite a bit.

Matt Hansen needs to go.

9, 9.5 and 10 out of 10 cannot be taken seriously in some of these reviews, no way the game is as good as that and just show's their bias in some way or another, people can like the game as much as they want which is fine, but if Avowed was going to be that good, and a top tier game, we would of seen that before now, these review scores have become irrelevant now imo.

Is 8/10 really a mid game? Methinks a lot of you need a little bit realignment!

Good game joins a long list of good games on my backlog that I will definitely get round to one day soon.

Yeah watching a few vids I feel the same. The art direction is all over the shop. I'm all for colourful games but this litterally uses every known colour in the universe on the screen at the same time.
