What do you do when your girlfriend bought you a new jacket, and you lose it within a week?
Few options here

- Search heaven and hell for it
- Buy the exact same jacket, take the secret to your grave
- Hope she forgets by the time jacket weather comes back around
- Tell her the truth

What do you do when your girlfriend bought you a new jacket, and you lose it within a week?

You reference the relevant episode of the sitcom that is your life and act accordingly.

In your case, I imagine you buy another jacket, the old jacket turns up (because your girlfriend secretly took it to the dry cleaner's or something), you both look at the pair of jackets, sway back and forth, laugh, hum, and call each other schmoopy.

Buy another jacket.

Kind of agreed. This is why first dates should be structured as either coffee / a drink or two. Besides, what happens if she sends another ambiguous picture?

Just assume she's not your ideal of attractiveness, go anyway, and hope for the best.

I kinda unintentionally have the opposite thing going on: all of my pictures make me look skinny, but I'm actually more built. I guess subtly lowering expectations and then marginally exceeding them can be a good thing.
Always undersell and overdeliver. My pictures are very unflattering on purpose so that girls are very pleasantly surprised when they meet me.

They always say: "you are way hotter than your pictures." I'm sure it costs me a bunch of matches for more shallow women who care a lot about the photos, but I'd rather only match with girls who will be super excited to spend time with me when actually on our date.

Tell her it's summer now and you're hot. Even if you're cold as fuck, never let her know.

Asking for another pic is kind of classless, IMO. Meet or don't. It is very unlikely for an additional pic to be the dealbreaker.

Not really classless... just trying to save everyone's time and energy. Why waste her time with a date if you can know you aren't attracted to her before you meet? There are tons of people available to date, unless you just wanna make a friend then it doesn't matter what she looks like, if it's an actual date then you should be certain beforehand that you a) are physically attracted to them and b) there aren't any other obvious deal breakers (smoking for instance, for many people)... time is valuable and so is honesty. Going out with someone you aren't attracted to out of niceness or trying to be "classy" isn't honest or an efficient way to spend your time. Also purposely obfuscating how you look isn't really the epitome of class. She can send a more clear pic or find another dude to date.

If only I could match with tons of girls by underselling myself, haha. Not sure if a good strategy.

People use their pictures to alter the truth all the time. There was one girl I met up with and she was over twice the weight of her picture, which turned out to be over 2 years old. I'm not sure why people think presenting a false or non-representative image of themselves will work out.

Because once you meet them you'll see they are an amazing person, who cares about looks anyway? Is that picture that old? I've been meaning to update it, but I've just been so busy. One or more of those reasons, we've all been caught out by it at onetime or another.

I've definitely met up with girls who looked way better in photos. I don't understand why they do it. It's only going to be a bad time for them when none of their dates work out.

I remember one of my dates having gray hairs. Recently I've gotten pretty used to this with Asian women, but they have to at least be cute.

Women generally have way way way more photos of themselves, so it is easier to just pick whichever photos are best. It seems like much more of a guy problem to not have recent / remotely-acceptable photos.

Old photos are definitely the bigger culprit than angled/deceiving shots. People often lie to themselves about how/why/when their weight or physical shape is slipping away.

There's no plan yet so I'm probably thinking a little too far ahead but I guess an hour wouldn't be so bad.

If there's no plan, bail. Dropping a conversation like a rock is 100% acceptable if you've never met the person or never tried to make plans and have no connection to them through your regular social network. Once I decide to ask a woman out, I follow through, even if they seem like a pain in the ass. Recent story: Yes, she was a giant pain in the ass, but she is trying to hook me up with a friend, so... okay? I got something out of it, and some much-needed positive feedback, from a date that I was a hissy-fit away from bailing on.

I have this problem.

I don't take pictures/get pictures taken of me. Not much else to it.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

99% percent of photos of men are taken by their significant other. Been single a while? Then you probably have fuck-all in terms of photos.

I've never been that into photos and would actively avoid them, and am only now realizing how dumb that is. Live and learn I guess.

I actually had zero photos of me and my long-term ex together, so that was easier to deal with.

Oh man. I never thought I would be posting in a GAF dating thread. Sign me up.
After being married 7 years I'm in the dating game...
I separated from the wife earlier this year.
From that point I began to hang out @ bars (not clubs) with my old friends and just planting seeds (no not like that) by introducing myself to the ladies and chatting up with girls at tables and what not. Nothing really came of it, not even a #.

Well the one time I least expected to meet a girl and get a # is the day I did. I still didn't think much of it since I figured she might not even give me the light of day especially since she lives 50 miles away.

Well we finally hang out, drink up all night and I end up crashing at her place. Wake up early and I leave. That same night we hang out again drinking and this time she crashes at my place. (Nothing more than a little kiss)

There's more but I'm at work so I'll get around to my question for dating GAF shortly.

Everything's changed now, it's all about dating apps and not trying your luck in bars. You'll get up to speed soon enough. Read the first post of this topic.

been single about 6 months now. I have pictures form my previous 3 year relationship but I'm not going to use any of those because

a) they mostly involve my SO and that's kind of weird
b) I look better now than I did then

anyone here in Austin TX? Pls come take pics of me and let's not make it awkward.

It takes time, and a concerted effort to have pictures taken by friends when you're at events. I have some good recent ones from weddings, bachelor parties, work trips, bbqs, etc. It doesn't happen overnight, though.

I still prefer this method. While everyone will say stuff about "dating apps" yada yada...(they aren't necessarily wrong), the ability to hunt in the wild should not be understated.

If you are a decent enough looking dude that can carry a conversation it will work out fine.

It's probably just better to do a good mix of both. People get a better sense of each other in person than online not to mention...people smell...weird. My last date smelled like...old cheese or something...

A bunch of it comes from having a healthy social network, if bars aren't your thing. Having a mix of hobbies, interests, and regular activities, and seeking to make sure that there's a good mix of gender across them is important. Things will happen with shocking ease when somebody really puts themselves out there, but isolated, imbalanced hobbies and careers like gaming, programming, etc. lead to lopsided or limited social networks.

Where in Arlington?

I need Arlington date ideas; will trade D.C. spots for them.

Then again, I'm possibly taking the train up to Balitmore this weekend for crabs and Pizzagirl, so who knows. I'd rather go to Baltimore than fucking Alexandria.

Place called Northside Social Cafe near the Clarendon Metro station, it was a cool indoor/outdoor place that did a little bit of everything (coffee, tea, beer, wine, pastries), so you had a lot of options to suit your tastes, which is key to me since i'm not a big fan of coffee. Had a public parking lot right behind it too.

You could actually help by swapping me a good "tea and light fare" place in the district, which i've been blanking on. I know enough bars to get by, but something lighter for a non-drinking first date is helpful too.

As somebody who really doesn't think about taking photos while doing stuff, it's really come back to bite me in the ass with this online dating thing.

Tell me about it. Makes me regret how I got to this point. Where I'd be most comfortable and confident are the places where girls are in unbalanced numbers. Obviously I'm looking at putting myself out there, but it's not exactly attractive to be completely fresh to typical social things.

My thing is I love taking pictures, but never of myself. I personally enjoy taking pictures of scenery, or food, or other people, lol... of course the lack of pictures of myself stems from self confidence issues, but at the same time I can never make a damn selfie look good. Screw you lighting ;p

My dating profile pics are the few I took in the last few years that I actually enjoyed of myself. It's not a coincidence that I weighed about 30 pounds less lol :p Well actually I didn't like the mirror selfie I took but it's a mirror selfie, it was just there for a full body pic lol

I have pretty poor photos in general. I'm only occasionally photogenic and usually I end up looking somewhat more grotesque than I do in real life. Most of my dating profile pics are from salsa dance events or are heavily cropped group shots. I'm rarely photographed by myself.

Meeting girls in person is still way easier in my opinion. But I gave up drinking completely so it's harder to find a cluster of single girls in any given location on a consistent basis. So for me, the apps are way more efficient overall, but harder on an individual girl by girl basis.

It's funny, I'd actually like to get into photography but then I'd be going and taking photos of other stuff, too XD

I have a fair amount of photos on my phone but yeah they're all of random shit I found funny, dogs I saw, or a cool picture of the scenery in Hawaii or something, not of myself.

Yes ma'am. Love taking photos of buildings, people, other things. Not me (though I have a lot in some vain attempt to not hate them lol). But yeah, my selfies are always a disaster, and pictures taken of me are horrible.

Yeah I hate taking selfies. I'm really self conscious about how I look in photographs. I almost always look stupid. To get a good selfie you have to set it up and basically model yourself.

Yeah I would say I'm descent enough to meet the descent chicks but it's just the conversation part I'm working on. I don't mind the rejection when at the end I don't get a #. Its just dumb when they're rude up front. I never would've thought I'd be doing it but here I am.

Which is what girls do anyway. Have you ever walked in on a girl preparing for a selfie? It's pretty funny. The poor girl was embarrassed when she noticed I saw her lol.

I have posted enough of my stuff into photo gaf to the point where if they really cared they could find me based off that. Should I axe the pictures or just the link nonsense? Edit: All fixed. No pics though I really do not care that much.

He meant that having your real name in the dating thread specifically makes it super easy to track back to you, especially if you show your pictures to them. Photo GAF doesn't really matter, but it's generally not the best idea to make it easy to find your Dating GAF stuff.

That goes for most people, tbh.
