Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed even on PlayStation Plus

As noted by the TrueTrophies portal and based on data from 3.4 million active PSN accounts, the game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection was more successful on PS Plus than Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

With Dragon Age The Veilguard having released for PS5 less than six months ago, you might have thought it would easily draw the most attention among March 2025's PS Plus monthly games. Not so, as it happens. Instead, it looks like more subscribers felt like revisiting some arcade classics while they can still grab Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Cowabunga Collection on PS Plus Essential.

It didn't fail, millions of people already played it.

Failure is relative, a couple million people "engaging" with an indie title made on a shoe string budget would be a success.

however a large IP which was in development under a mainstream AAA studio for over 8 years that sold 10+ million copies with its prior entry, is a failure.

we still don't know how badly it sold because EA keeps telling us the "engagement" numbers, and that was "million" singular, not "millions" it was at 1.5 million "engaged" last time it was announced.

I'm sure a sizeable portion of subscribers just added to their library to never fucking touch it again, I'm embarrassed cause I did it myself, but works as a reminder of when PS+ has an awful month of free games, this way I can convince myself to keep paying, because I'm sure nothing they could ever give away in the upcoming months will be worse than DA Veilguard 😂

So I actually bought psn subscription to give this a try, and 5 hours later I regretted it already.

So here is my short take.

Made a female character, mage, and 2 hours in realised I was playing in a all female squad trying to stop some evil. Exclusively no men. 4 woman sitting in circle with very, very childish dialogue, discussing the obvious. Love women, but man...

Made a male warrior, played for 3 hours more, realised this isn't and rpg, it's very bad action game, the dialogue only got worse.

Figured there are much better ways to waste my free time, and shut it off.

It was this comment from the For those who tried Dragon Age Veilguard due to it being free with PS+ in March, what are your thoughts on it? thread that stopped me from trying it. His comment is so relatable, I can easily imagine myself spending an afternoon with Veilguard only to regret the wasted time.

Yeah. I one hand, I'm glad Veilguard failed for being shit.

On the other hand, it makes me fear for Mass Effect. I was hoping this would be the catalyst for them to get their shit together and give us what we want for ME, but this could just outright kill them lol

I'm slightly more optimistic about Mass Effect now because Bioware knows they screwed up with Veilguard and HOPEFULLY they will avoid making the same mistake again.

Depends how much you believe BioWare. Months back, there was a thread where they claimed the next ME game will be really dark and gritty.

It exposed the falsehood of modern journalism, and the total fallacy of review scores' and their lack of accuracy.
I forget which game it was…. Days gone or horizon or a different game.

But I remember one of streamers like asmongold or someone laughing and calling them out for saying the game only has men when later in the game there’s a bunch of women. So it showed the game reviewer barely even played the game. But technically I think it sounds like the game is all guys at the beginning.
