Dragon Age : Veilguard reached 1.5 million players, 50% less than EA's expectations

Lol, I believe this was reported some time ago by SmashJT. His sources were accurate again. Looks like the mainstream game journos finally have some competition.

Yup. People called him "grifter" but this is right in line with what he reported.

Btw, remember that the game was heavily discounted ($40) for up to a month at all major retailers, during the holiday season. Right out the gate, they dropped the price by nearly half - which slashes their profits.

What I find amazing is how even after Andromeda, and then Anthem... That Bioware still fucked around with DA. I find that to be a level of delusion beyond words, as unhinged as it gets that you basically didn't read the room and see that anything associated with that shit fails hard.

It makes no fucking sense, fighting gods and dragons and you're playing therapist to an asshole who has mommy/identity issues. What a disease that infested these studios.

This is a total disaster. EA worked on this game for 8 years, advertised and marketed it, it got great reviews, and they set pretty modest expectations... and it didnt even come close.
Don’t forget how EA flew all the game journalists and influencers in for a 6 hour preview event, then sent review codes only to the ones who gave it the most glowingly positive previews.

Or all their astroturf bots gushing about how you can pet the cats and play rock paper scissors against the skeleton guy.

And fucking every review suspiciously using the same “return to form” phrase.

Such a disgrace. They tried so so hard to trick gamers into buying this pile of shit. BioWare and EA can get fucked.

So this is how Dragon Age goes out huh? Infiltrated and sabotaged by a bunch of mentally challenged people.
Dragon Age isn't some gigantic important franchise though (sorry DA fans)

They infiltrated and sabotaged Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, etc. Some pretty culturally important media franchises have been plundered and looted and left for dead by the mentally insane this past decade

I don’t understand the point you’re trying to make here. Are you saying that I shouldn’t be annoyed that one of my favorite game series got killed off because it’s not as big as Star Wars?

Throw in some refunds and EA monthly rental. So sales are most likely closer to 1mil vs 1.5 mil. What a fiasco.

How did the EA execs not know this isn’t going to go over well with general gaming audience.

With the goat back in office imo if I'm bioware im removing that pos taash from the game instantly, that character is the lamest pile of shit gaming character ever written into a game(next to concord) and the game would only IMPROVE with her absence. It's a hail mary to get some more sales imo, who cares what mentally challenge Twitterfucks say or do.

See Dana White with peloton? Same shit here, taash would be so gone if it were my call and anything to do with mental illness bs

I will buy and play it someday, but I need to start Inquisition which I bought for $12 late last year. I’ll probably buy this one in a couple of years on a holiday sale for the same price. I’ve got so many games I’ve yet to play, I can wait and pay almost nothing for it in a few years. Sorry BioWare and EA.

I can’t say I’m surprised. The art-style looked like ass to me the moment I saw it. The fact that it’s extremely woke and pandering only made it worse in my eyes. I can tolerate some wokeness in my games but these guys took it too far and started becoming preachy to the point of annoyance. They did it to themselves. BioWare is fucked, I don’t see them bouncing back from this as I don’t have enough faith they will do a proper Mass Effect sequel.

1.5M players would include anyone who does PS or Xbox home sharing where one copy is sold but two gamer profiles can play it. And any other way more profiles can play it without buying.

Who knows what the real copies sold are, but I'd take a total guess and say 1.2M tops.

Ok, what the fuck is going on with these estimates? There's a difference of > 2 million between the top and bottom sources.

wtf.

I normally disregard SteamSpy because their estimates are so far out of whack from the other 3 a lot of the time.

So somewhere between 250k and 1m, and then when estimating, just cut it down the middle. So about 650-700k.

Would be interesting to know what SteamSpys methodology is.

Even if all 1.5M were paid customers, how would come up with 2.3M Steam owners? Then add on consoles and their total guess would probably be 4-5M. Not even close to a max of 1.5M.

Inquisition was a POS and sold well because of the amazing reviews of how "fantastic" it was.

It was junk, EA expecting this woke fest nonsense reaching 3 million, lol, so glad it did shit for destroying the Dragon Age franchise, DA:O is one of the best games ever.

lol Veilguard is like the Kamala Harris of video games. The entire mainstream media cheering her on and handling her with kid gloves and pretending with all their might that she’s so wonderful and magical. And nobody fucking bought it.
Money always talks, while marketing, PR or commentary only goes so far.

It's kind of like every person (including doctors) saying Mcdonalds is garbage, but somehow it's the biggest chain out there making shit loads of sales and profit. If it's so crap, dont buy it. But it sure seem people love McD's and even feed it to their kids.

When that happens, it means the general public saw right through it and dont believe.

I'd bet any money a lot of celebs and athletes vote conservative. But for sake of liberal friendly faces, they got to tow the PR line of liberals. I have a hard believing like 95% of Hollywood and sports are all liberals.

I played all of it, because I'm a glutton for punishment, and i don't remember the last time I was so bored with a game.

Origins is one of my favorite games ever.

Will they ever learn? How come it's so obvious and CEOs, producers and such can't see it? The audience they pander to just seeks publicity because they're pathetic inside and want attention, they give not shit about gaming very largely.

steam Spy has been SPECTACULARLY unreliable for years.
Since Valve made Steam profiles private by default preventing them from scraping data, they went from "most reliable" to "dead last" and stayed at the bottom up to the current day.
