Margit is hard but I did beat him with 2h greatsword at level 20. It did feel a bit low, but I didn't explore the southern area yet so I could easily level up some more before trying him.
I didn't have a bleed weapon but that + wolves will probably obliterate him easily. I figure he would be cake if I first did the Gaol portal?
Summon the wolves and try to get a charge attack in once he finishes attacking them. He will stagger if the wolves and you hack at him, which will deplete a chunk of his health. First 50% of the battle is fairly easy, his jump is easy to punish with a full charge, or fast strikes ash.
When he summons his hammer, roll when he crushes the ground from the air and punish. There aren't many windows to attack him in anymore. My favourite is his dash attack, where he runs to you, does a sort of iai strike, and a follow up. Roll through both and attack. And he will always do his jump after throwing 2 projectiles. Which gives you a guaranteed 1 or 2 attacks but roll away as he will do some shit.

i tried with 2h great sword too but found that straight sword is simply more efficient. The secret with melee is staggering him with jump+heavy attacks.

I beat Margit, and now I'm at the first bonfire inside the castle. Game is really fun now that I have an ultra greatsword. I do wish FUGS was here though.

Godrick down. Finally.
Left to go explore and came back and beat him with a little help, 1 human and the NPC girl. Just played it super safe.
The strategy for bosses seems to be attack them until you get their attention then run away while your summon partner attacks them, then when the boss turns attention to your partner you go in and attack to take its attention back. Rinse and repeat.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
30 hours deep, crossed off a fair chunk of the map. The scope of this thing is insane, without saying anything there's parts of the world not on the map and some of the structures that are there are massive inside.
The thing that really strikes me is just the sheer amount of adventure available. You can be doing one thing and then wind up doing something totally different off the beaten track that takes you an hour, and have side-adventures in that side-adventure.
2 big bads down, got a little confused as to how to proceed to the next one but I think the answer was right in front of me the whole time, gonna crack on with that after work tomorrow.
This thing is outstanding. I rarely replay games this big but I can see myself doing a magic-only playthrough another time because there's a LOT of cool shit in there - and here's me with my +11 longsword and armour I was wearing in hour 3. That's the Souls I love!

If you are really struggling with Margit, consider the following:
If you follow the grace's guidance from the start willy-nilly you end up at Stormveil castle CRAZY underleveled. Remember that the guidance just points the way, it holds zero consideration for your current level.
- You could be underleveled. Go explore the rest of Limgrave and the area beyond to the south. There is a ton to see and experience, levels to gain, flask buffs to find
- Upgrade your weapon. You can upgrade your weapon to +3 at the church in the starting area
- Summon an AI companion, Rogier. Rogier is a miracle caster who can run interference and chip away at Margit's health
- Use your summons. The wolves are great for diversion/damage, the jellyfish is great for tanking. You can use summons even when you've summoned Rogier.

What is the early meta? I'm getting pretty burned out on this game and want to really give it one last shot.
Is there a class and stat progression path, early gear that is significantly better? My level 22 confessor honestly feels weak as hell still. Might just reroll at this point if you guys think its worth it.

Here, just do this and make sure you're spending your runes carefully. Also, upgrade your weapons and use the Ashes of War effectively. The ones with Holy are fantastic.
(Vigor, Faith, Strength and Dex)

After 20 hours i finally beat margit and exploring stromveil castle and boy its something. It feels like a whole souls game actually. I am 2 hours into the castle and still suprised how many secret there are.
There are souls-borne game expansions that are shorter and smaller than the whole castle area. Felt the same way about siofra river but the castle just keeps on expanding.
Lost graces are getting sparser as well. I am always on edge both mentally and physically.
Sometimes its just too overwhelming and i need to put the controller down because i feel like i am about the drown in possibilities.
am i overreacting or do you guys feel the same way?

It's a puzzle dungeon followed by a boss that hurts like hell if you're only a few hours in.
The first few hours are the hardest and hybrids are going to have the worst time of that since you're probably distributing stats all over the board. You can't respec until after you kill the 2nd big boss and even then you need to go grab an item to do it.
I would either stick with it and spend some hours just roaming the map and getting more powerful, or rerolling to a pure build and worrying about hybrid stuff later.

Was raising dex but found a great strength/faith weapon
Have to 2h it for now due to str requirement
The thing that sucks about unique weapons or whatever is you can’t buff them with spells and can’t use ash
Makes me wonder if base weapons that you can actually buff with spells are superior

"Tutorial area" seems kinda excessive considering you can spend like 20 hours in Limgrave and the southern area. I mean, how much tutorial do you need? The cave is the tutorial. Limgrave is the starting area.

So I beat Godrick on my first try and the entire fight was epic. I’m level 33 now so am going to head north west and see what’s happening over that way.
After 15 hours, I think this is the best game I’ve ever played. Technical issues aside, everything that actually matters is basically as good as it can be. Combat is incredible, art is amazing, the sense of scale is breathtaking. However, the one thing that sets it apart for me is the world building and atmosphere, it’s simply unmatched to me.
To think that there are likely dozens more hours to be had that are just as good? Unreal.

Souls noob here - I leveled up a sword I found pretty early on (Lordsworn Straight Sword) to +4, and while I like it, I'm wondering if I should have saved those smithing stones for a better weapon. I'm also having a hard time figuring out what to level on my Vagabond. Vigor and Endurance seem obvious, but should I do Strength and Dex in equal measure. I typically like weapons I can swing more quickly, so should I just go with more Dex. I'm not worried too much about that knowing I can respec, but I'm hoping smithing stones turn out to be more plentiful and I didn't waste too many too soon.

I think you should stick with it. I started the game as a warrior with low health and high stamina. For a long while i regreted my decision and couldnt adjust to duble wielding. But now i am quite pleased with my current status in the game.
I am level 35 and still feel underpower pretty much all the time.
I'd recommened you to stick around limgrave and grind while looking for catacombs since they give you easy bosses which can boost your morale.
if you havent already, go ahead and fight the dragon in the starting area. It looks scary but quite simple since you can put some distance to its low in variety attacks.
And keep away from the east.

Castle Morne can be difficult (good for levelling up though) South-West had some easy bosses, IMO

You’re fine. Those swords are pretty much one of the best weapons in all souls games. If you’re doing a str, quality or dex build, this sword will probably carry you through the whole game.

There is something I just don't understand regarding spirit ashes. Sometimes I can use them, sometimes not. I do understand it's limited to certain areas. But what I don't understand is that one time I can use them in an area and another time in the same one, I can't.
I'm currently at Rennala. Without going into spoiler territory, spirit ashes are very helpful. The first time I entered, I could summon them and almost killed her. The second time, for some random reason, I couldn't summon them. It was just grayed out.
Now I'm sure I would manage without, but it bothers me that I don't know why one time I am allowed to use spirit ashes and the second time not. Anyone?

I found a circle arena area which transports you to a 1 on 1 fight with Gael from Dark Souls 3, I didn't even get a hit on him

When you first find him in the Mistwood with the gesture he mentions finding someone for him 'nearby', I looked everywhere there and couldn't find that person. I went and did the Evergaol boss that Voyage mentioned and he was waiting there. This was stupid and not the sort of questline I thought it was going to be. lol

I understand what you’re saying but I don’t think it’s reasonable to ask players to face an early boss game with mid game level character, it’s counterproductive. It might be there to “teach” players they should explore more of the area but I honestly don’t think most will get the message. Souls games are known to be obstuse in their teaching methods.

The problem is they often die when someone so much as sneezes in their direction. But with the wolves as a distraction and the ability to fire from a safe distance they can be quite OP.

No, that's not it, I think. Didn't use any before arriving. Didn't change gear. Recharged at the bonfire. I even get the possibility to summon in a prior area, I checked. I have no idea why this happens to me. It's very weird.
The first time I went in the "ok to summon"-sign was there, the second and third time it wasn't.
