Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
As U.S. president Donald Trump's controversial import tariffs take effect, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has urged the administration to consult with the private sector to avoid harm to the video game industry.

In an updated statement issued to IGN, the ESA called on the Trump administration to speak with the private sector "to find ways to sustain the economic growth supported by our sector."

"Video games are one of the most popular and beloved forms of entertainment for Americans of all ages. Tariffs on video game devices and related products would negatively impact hundreds of millions of Americans and would harm the industry’s significant contributions to the U.S. economy. We look forward to working with the Administration and Congress to find ways to sustain the economic growth supported by our sector."

The ESA represents several major video game companies, including Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Epic Games, and Electronic Arts.

If you Ameircans want to send me money I'll buy some Switch 2's and put them in the airmail for a small substantial fee

Thanks America. Just making everyday life even more fucking expensive for regular everyday people.

I’m seeing the price of literally everything raise significantly right before my eyes here in Canada.

Games are already 100 dollars here. I’m not buying anything that isn’t from a premium developer with a good track record anymore. No more experimenting with new games

I'd have less of a problem if there was logic to any of these actions. This is just going to hurt everyone across the board. If the best you have is "concepts" of what this will accomplish maybe it's wise not to do it?
I'm also blown away by people defending these actions. History has taught us nothing about blindly following vs. critical thinking. Then again people are taught to believe and worship concepts like Jesus from a young age when the brain is plastic, unsurprising that you now have con men capturing the very same vulnerable folks.

Obviously, tariffs are payed by regular consumers. If tariffs on chips and other Asian countries go ahead, then the cost of gaming and computing devices will increase sharply. Unless Arizona TSMC has enough capacity to supply the entire USA. Although they can’t produce 3nm or better so Apple will be shit out of luck.

What exactly is the news here? Obviously, tariffs increasing video game prices is bad for consumers but is that actually happening? I think ESA is just getting ahead of it and scared it might happen.

Fun fact: Biden actually kept Trump's China tariffs for the past 4 years and even added additional ones. Didn't see a ton of articles about people being significantly harmed during the last admin.

I hope it’s true, less demand on those GPUs might be the only way we get one of those at RRP in EU.

But most likely burgers will just pay the extra fee and nothing will change.
