As a FFXIV player I see all the flaws FFXVI has staring me in the face. And beyond a couple actors doing their best the story drops off rather fast and has severe pacing issues and a lack of urgency. It's an ok action game but it's just hit stuff on cooldown most of the time against damage sponges.
The game is actually more fun when you mod it and remove the cooldown on abilities and the game is suddenly fun and gains a lot of depth. Instead of just do I stagger now or stagger later.
Restricting hard mode after a normal playthrough which is like 50 hours was also a stupid thing to do.
Oh and Jill was here.
FFXVI is just a bad FF game under scrutiny and doesn't meet the standard I would place on a mainline title. As a spinoff action title it would have been received better I think.
Yeah, I said the combat is weak, there's no denying that, FFVIIR combat is fantastic, there is no comparison here.
I don't like the writing and how characters talk in VIIR, they tend to go from one extreme to the other or be cryptic just because, the more serious approach in XVI makes me a bit more engaged, but this is just my opinion, I don't want to sound bitter or too critical.
I think if you want those modern MMO boss fights you'll have a waaaaay better time with Granblue Relink.
In general I don't like modern boss fights and the ones in FF XVI, what I meant is that there are maybe 1 or 2 that are interesting and/or give a challenge and that the Eikon fights are spectacular, but they are just that, there's nothing else there, zero challenge.
Also, I'm not a jrpg fan, there are just a few that I like, in FF series, I like just XVI and VIIR, Dragon Quest echoes of an elusive age and Nier Automata, which is one of my favourite games ever.
