Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

Looks great but come on, Turn 10. Don't populate a GT grid with road cars. That's just daft.

And please either add the option to remove the hands and steering wheel from cockpit view, or for the love of God have full 1:1 visual steering wheel rotation. It totally shatters the immersion. I really, really assumed that this would finally be fixed in FM6.

Been wanting this since fm3. Looks painful, as if the driver's shoulder will dislocate if he turns the wheel any more.

I tried driving the wrong way around Yas Marina in the F430 so I could play it longer without having to restart. It was a good idea in theory but touching the curbs going that way was tossing me a good couple feet into the air haha. It was pretty intense.

If you want to see what I mean try it out for yourself.

It really is a fun time with a lot of laughs. I swear some of us, not me, are really good drivers. And yet we've had some bangers.

Amazing - vividly recall this as the forzagaf race where I didn't make a single corner on the 1st lap without hitting someone..
Also got fond memories of the retro muscle cars round Laguna.
UE is fully loaded, 10th is booked off work & I have a much better broadband connection than FM4 days.
Bring it!

Only if you use a wheel. Otherwise it looks weiiiiiiiiiiird as fuck.

In that gif, the flags overhead cast sharp shadows on the track. You can see the flags reflected in the windscreen of the car as it passes underneath, but, as far as I can tell, there are no shadows cast on the car itself.

It's a great-looking gif, but I can't unsee the missing shadows on the car.

I doubt it. And unless your drifting you really shouldn't be doing that much rotation for 90% of the turns.

Huh? The on-screen steering wheel hits the rotation limits during normal driving extremely often in FM3, 4, 5 & 6. Every chicane, every hairpin for example in road and GT cars.

Yeah, sorry, thought that was a given. I should have been clearer,

Some paint jobs don't show shadows very well. Back when F5's Pagani at the Alps was demoed the lack of shadows really bothered me, it really does depend on the paint's reflective properties.

Forza always had that kind of issue with car paints, more often then not driving on tracks where half of the street is in shadow it makes the car look like it's glowing because it looks unrealistically bright.

Forza 3 and 4 had this issue when driving through tunnels.

Do you guys think there will be free DLC tracks like with FM5? Or was that just because of lack in launch content?

If no free tracks, then what paid content will there be (not talking about cars of course).

I bet they do some big track/even content along with the Porsche DLC car pack(s) but no idea what would fit Porsche.
A Pike's Peak could be the equivalent of the E3-Nordschleife bomb from 2014 as a second or third DLC.

Yes for hairpins, but chicanes?

Chrome paint. Look at the rims and the carbon fiber details in the front.

The carbon fiber parts do show shadows. But most of the car is covered in a metallic paint, which does not reflect diffusely. For example, try placing an object between a light source and a mirror: the object won't cast a shadow on the mirror.

Damn you I can't unsee it now :(

One of my paddle shifters on my TX wheel is already broken. I haven't even had the thing for a week. It keeps shifting up twice when I click it. Also the gas pedal squeaks lol. I guess the build quality complaints are very legit.

Nooo, that means I might be without a wheel when Forza 6 launches depending on how the replacement process works.

Ok, I can see something on the non-reflective paint. Also there's a shot from the other thread which clearly shows shadows being cast on the car when the car has a flat yellow paint job.

So, never mind, I guess.

Check the pc config tool before you get started on a return. Do you have any other games to double check if it's the wheel and not a bug?

Yep. Played Monza in any racing games lately, for example?

Do you actually use cockpit view in FM games? If so you must be aware how often the wheel hits the 180° rotation limit. It's been a big complaint over the years because it's so jarring when it happens. Which is often, no matter how much you deny it.

I don't remember exactly how far I was rotating on monza in PC last week but it wasn't enough to where it was so obvius it drew my attention. On hairpins I do notice but any other time not so much, my attention is usually focused on the track ahead.

Inside Sim Racing have posted a few great videos with them playing on a few wheel setups:

Viper GTLM @ Sebring in the wet (Must watch IMO): http://youtu.be/-O_6TQwgFpQ

Indycar race @ Rio: http://youtu.be/BQtE457_F6Y

Ferrari 360 @ Spa in the night: http://youtu.be/8FLsF0y1kYA

1st 2 hours of the career mode: http://youtu.be/fZqaXFBpBPk

Thanks for posting.

I really don't know how people can say the racing feels lifeless. The nighttime racing is intense. Can barely see in front of you.

Why would you notice it in pCARS, where the on-screen wheel rotates 1:1 correctly and naturally? It's noticable in FM because it suddenly stops halfway through the steering action and you have to trust that the front wheels are still turning. Lol, you know this. Stop fucking with me..! :p

The first thing I did was update the firmware when I got it.

It's skipping gears in Forza 5, FH2, and while less frequent it did double upshift 2-3 times in two Nordschleife laps in Assetto Corsa on PC when I tried it just now too.

As for testing in the TX control panel that's a tricky one. I think it only glitches when there's active FFB going on so that's hard to test outside of a game.

Try tightening or loosening the screws on the back of the rim.

My paddles on the GTE became spongy a few months ago, thought they were broken but it was just the screws.

I don't have a screwdriver skinny enough to fit so I'll have to buy one to try that out.

It's weird because it feels fine and it clicks normal like the other one. No clue what went wrong. I bought it from an online retailer that has a zero exchange policy for opened items defective or not otherwise I'd just return it instead of dealing with the manufacturer.

Well the lighting on the chrome paint is actually not really correct in the quoted gif. As has been said, diffuse materials behave differently than perfect mirrors (see the difference between the reflections on the wind shield and the carbon parts). But the chrome paint is somewhere in the middle between a perfect mirror and a perfectly diffuse material, and thus would in reality show a blurred reflection (things further away are blurred more than those close) of the environment. But the chrome doesn't pick up any of the colors / shadows of the flags, unlike the windshield or the carbon parts. Seems they have used a simplified model for displaying glossy reflections.. (still looks very good imo, but it does look a bit off in the given situation)

First two are pre-race, other are from the photo mode :

I don't know why, but this shot got me. Looks amazing
...and I'm not even a fan of the car, our neighbor's son had one and he's an idiot.

Usually I'd say FM looks great but not particularly natural and *real*.

This looks TV-commercial quality. Great and real.

That's something I'm still struggling to understand. Typically, cars with white / grey or black paint look very natural, while colored cars (especially red and blue it seems) look rather unrealistic and oversaturated. I wonder if it has anything to do with metamerism, but probably not. Might just be that the shaders used multiply all reflected light with the paint color (besides pure reflections I guess), which is incorrect, since afaik car paint has small metallic flakes the reflect light without attenuation.. Another problem might be Fresnel effects, that is different reflection behaviour depending on the viewing angle, which may or may not change the effect color has on the lighting.

Quite liked the demo but I've still got plenty left to do in Forza 5 so I'll wait again and get it when there is a driving game drought!
I quite like the addition of mad cards too.

God after loving the 6 demo i figured i'd go back to 5 and get some work in and god the ui is such a pile of huge shit in comparison.

guess i'll stick to fh2
