Maybe some people just don't like South Park? That's a possibility.

Sure, but the 'lol wat' statements imply it's something beyond stupid, like making a game about napkins. South park is a beloved franchise that millions of people find hilarious, and the potential for it to be turned into an rpg is amazing. The humor, combat, setting, ability to explore the world of south park, I see it as a pretty amazing potential that probably won't hit near where i'd like, but that's being cynical in general.

South park is a respected franchise I thought, it's still a good show after all these years, so I don't see why a game about it is so silly if it's not typical license fodder.

If Obsidian isn't doing what it's good at, what's the big benefit to Obsidian's involvement? Their major skill isn't accounted for.

I do not believe they are good at wirting South Park gags. So from the perspective of a South Park fan like me, this is a good solution.

But I do understand Obsidian fans, it's wasted talent.

I wasn't expecting this at all. I haven't watched South Park in over 10 years. I don't know how well this game will perform. I'm thinking it may flop. Also, no pc version? Really?

The exaggeration makes it sound like you cared more than you sug-

Wait a minute.

A game based on a show that I haven't given a fucking shit about in a decade, set in a genre I can't stand. It's not even something boring I can mock GameInformer for hyping. It's just shit. Oh yeah, I mad.

I hope we'll see Imaginationland and visit it. Imagine fighting the evil characters lol

Hope they have many tie-ins to popular movies, cartoons, etc. Hell this could be the Conker Bad Fur Day of this generation.

While the controls might be janky, they are still capable of developing good role-playing games where choices matter as much when it comes to gameplay as they do in regards to the story.

My view.

South Park game. Very bad. Not interested at all for that universe.
This is Obsidian. Good. But in combination with the first factor, I can't really care much about this.

I hope this doesn't take much focus out of other projects.

South Park RPG - good
Parker and Stone doing script - good
Obsidian - hmmmm....

2 out of 3 ain't bad. Will keep my eye on it.

Pretty much this. I can't believe people on the first page are saying "Hype Train Derailed" in regards to this game's subject matter/license. If anything the part to question is whether Obsidion can finally release a game that isn't broken.

Note: I only played KotOR2.

this could actually be great. Obsidian is a great rpg developer. I feel like their engines haven't been able to keep up with their writing and game design, but South Park's art style should hardly be demanding for any modern engine. The South Park brand also has plenty of depth to support an rpg....and it isn't generic fantasy/sci-fi.

My only concern here is that Matt and Trey have been giving people the impression that they are tired of South Park. The finale for last season (or was it mid-season?) had people thinking they were ready to quit. I know they said on the Daily Show that they're not, but the writing has its moments that bring forth doubt.

If the guys put their best efforts into this, I think it will be stellar. I think there's a lot of huge potential here and the whole "wizards and warriors" thing gives the guys the creative freedom to take the IP somewhere new, yet still within familiar territory.

I'm going to remain optimistic about this and I look forward to seeing some video of it in action.

They still love South Park. The idea that Matt and Trey were tired of South Park came from internet speculation after the last episode of the first half of this season. It was nothing more than speculation.

What likely happened is they were burned out because they had to write that first half as they were going through all of the stuff with their Broadway show. Keep in mind when they sit down to do SP they do them in 6 days so it's easy to get burned out with other things going on too.

In fact they just signed a deal with comedy central to keep SP going for 3 more seasons on top of the 2 they signed earlier in the year. So we've got 5 more seasons coming. They still love it.

If Obsidian isn't doing what it's good at, what's the big benefit to Obsidian's involvement? Their major skill isn't accounted for.

Obsidian's RPG prowess is more than just story and dialogue. They know how to make a RPG with actual gameplay too and they still do it better than Bioware and Bethesda.

depends if they wait til the last minute to write the script or take their time with it like they did with Cartman wanting a Wii, Imaginationland and their award winning broadway show.
I still have hope for that since they'll most likely make it about all the characters because it's a video game, I just hope that whatever antagonist they use isn't all too bad

This one's a classic

You should learn to separate the subjective from the objective. Not liking something doesn't make it bad. What's really odd is when people become aggressive about things they don't like; why do you even care? If you hate both rpgs AND south park you should be completely ambivalent to this. Is it your duty to destroy RPG's or something? Are you on a quest of some sort?

I'm not a fan of it. I don't like the art style, and I don't the brand of humor it uses very funny at all. I'm also not American so a lot of the subject matter isn't really that relevant to me.
Understandable, but I don't get the people in the topic posting that they don't care. I don't care about Tintin because the subject matter doesn't really appeal to me. That doesn't mean I go into the Tintin thread and say 'Who cares about Tintin anymore?'

Not interested. Has a "comedy" type of game ever been legitimately funny?
Costume Quest, Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle, Saint's Row 3, Portal 2, Skate (not intentionally)

Yeah I can see the American thing, a lot of it is making fun of Americans and our culture.

I can't wait to see some screens or trailers of this.

Holy shit. I interviewed with Obsidian earlier this year and they told me this was one of their next projects. I thought it was a joke to test and see if I would break the NDA or whatever (since they didn't actually show me anything).

Well, it's not uncommon when a developer with a fanbase announces a major licensed title with another fanbase. There will always be cases where you have fans in one fanbase not being part of the other fanbase and feeling that the combination is a disaster or a wasted opportunity. It's a pretty normal reaction imo. I'm not really surprised.

For the record, there were certainly people who said "who cares about Tintin anymore" when Speilberg and Jackson's involvement in the movies were announced. Again, not surprising.

I'm on a mission from God.

But yeah, sure, the game might be good if you're a fan of South Park and/or WRPGs, but hyping this to high heaven? Even something completely dull like GameInformer and GamePro merging would've entertained me more as its complete lack of excitement would have far higher mock value.

I know most people would not have wanted this. But I would have loved a World Police game. Not even an MMO. Something about World Police just screamed game idea to me. And though I like Gunstringer it wasn't...well...what I wanted.
