Gran Turismo 7’s Next Update is Coming This Week, With Four New Cars​

Gran Turismo series founder Kazunori Yamauchi has taken to Twitter to announce and tease the next update to Gran Turismo 7, which will arrive on consoles this coming week.

It’s coming a little sooner than anticipated, landing around three weeks after the previous content update on September 29. That’s the shortest interval between content updates yet, with most coming four or five weeks apart and, with the exception of 1.15 and 1.17, on the last Thursday of each month. Another unusual facet is that the update, which we’re temporarily dubbing 1.25, will bring four new cars instead of the three we’ve seen teased for every update thus far:

This set of cars looks relatively easy to identify, although with some qualifiers. Probably the most straightforward is the one in the bottom-left, which looks to be a 1973 Nissan Skyline GT-R. Often dubbed “Kenmeri”, due to a promotional campaign featuring a couple named Ken and Mary, Nissan only produced 197 examples of this car (the last Nissan powered by the straight-six S20 engine) making it one of the rarest GT-Rs of all. That’s a shoo-in for the Legends Cars dealer.

Sitting to its right is a fourth-generation Mazda MX-5/Roadster. That might be a slightly controversial choice, as GT7 already has an ND model. However the existing car is the 1.5-liter model, so this could be a 2.0-liter variant. With the MX-5s legendary array of special editions, pinning it down precisely won’t be possible until the car is officially revealed.

In the top-right corner we find an updated model of the Nissan GT-R GT3. First competing in 2018, this car used the post-MY17 body for the first time, along with improvements over the 2012 car and its 2015 update. It’s difficult to tell whether the car is the original 2018 version or the less common 2020 Evo, as physical differences were small. It may also be a specific team vehicle, such as one of the GT300 cars run in the Super GT series.

Finally, in the top right corner, there’s the Maserati Merak. This is a V6 derivative of the Maserati Bora, and indeed the two cars are almost identical up to the B-pillar. However the Merak features a reworked rear end, in part dictated by the different engines, notably including an open rear with “flying buttress” style C-pillars instead of a glass-covered compartment. Although it’s difficult to tell from the silhouettes, it looks like the car is a regular Merak due to the lack of the hood-mounted grille of the higher performance SS (and the later, low-output 2000GT).

These teasers only ever include cars that are coming to the update, so other content and features are unknown at this time. However players might be expecting a new track this month, as there’s appeared to be a pattern in updates thus far. Every other update to date has brought either a new circuit or new layouts at an existing one. May, July, and September’s updates did not include a circuit, while April, June, and August’s did. Additionally the April and August updates added variations to existing tracks (Spa-Francorchamps and Barcelona) with June bringing Watkins Glen as the only entirely new circuit. October therefore seems ripe for a new track.

As for other features and changes, the addition of the promised car-selling feature is one that the community is still anticipating. There will likely be other tweaks too, including a new batch of engine swaps and more Cafe Menu Books.
We don’t have a specific date for the update yet, but we’d expect it to be around Thursday, October 20.

This game won me over again. I've been racing daily B (Brands Hatch) and finally got to A+.
Started really bad and improved a lot over the week. Feels so rewarding! Took me a long time, but I got my qualify time down to 1:23.2xx.
Got a 1:42.768 in Suzuka Time Trial, and I'll sit with a 1:13.531 in the current one in Watkins Glen.

3. Café
　- The following Menu Book has been added:

Other Improvements and Adjustments​

1. Physics Simulation Model
　- The simulation for tire heat generation and wear ratio has been adjusted.
　- The suspension geometry for each car has been adjusted.
　- The initial values for suspension parts have been adjusted.
　- The initial values for the Differential Gear (with Fully Customizable LSD equipped) on certain cars have been adjusted.
　- The Performance Points (PP) of some cars have been adjusted.
　- The conditions for mechanical damage occurring from a collision or contact if Mechanical Damage is set to Light or Heavy in the Race Settings have been changed. As a result, cars are now less likely to sustain damage after hitting a track wall or other obstacles.

2. Steering Controllers
　- Performance of the wireless controller has been adjusted.

3. Sport
　- In Daily Races and Championships, it is now possible to select the Styles of an Event-Specified Car. Please note that while it is possible to open the Car Settings menu on Event-Specified Car with Styles, only the tires can be changed.
　- A Points Table button has been added to the Quick Menu in Championships events.

4. My Page
　- We fixed an issue where achieving All Bronze or All Gold in License Tests, Missions, and Circuit Experiences would cause the milestone to show up multiple times.

5. Custom Race
　- Rival cars selected via 'Rivals Settings' > 'Rivals Selection' > 'Select from Garage' will now use the appropriate tires as per the Race Settings, regardless of whether you own the tires for that car.

6. Localization
　- Fixed various text localization issues.

7. Others
　- Various other issues have been addressed.

Curious about the changes in tire wear. The last time they changed it, the tires would wear quicker but the wear had no affect on your performance up until the point they where pretty much dead whereas before they would degrade over time while effecting your laptimes constantly.

The TAA changed again. It seems they had kinda disabled it last patch. Now it's back to how it was before... The game is just a little blurrier but IMO looks better, with less aliased edges (which were minimal even with the TAA from last patch). They tweak this game too much.. always testing

Tyre wear is much more linear now so more like older one. Im disappointed they went back to almost no damage model, I liked the last one. And yeah, after physics changes you are now faster on almost all combos so I can put my tt time to trash ;d

yeah I liked that damage model as well, as much as I have suffered from it on some races
way better than 1.5s for barely touching the wall at brands hatch when trying to recover from a spin.......................

I liked the fast wear change on some tracks but not all. The 24 hour Spa was a bitch, a major bitch with that, combined with the weather changes. So for me it's a toss up, depending on the track.

It was a weird change for sure. You could drive the same laptime up until it had just a sliver of rubber left but then the car got nearly undrivable. It lost a huge amount of realism with that. And why even up the wear in general when it is just a setting.

Yes, especially the longer races suffered from this. I hope we are closer to what we had in the beginning now but i have yet to test it myself.

So I did Sardegna last night with the NSX I use. (I swap between a GTR 500, Lexus, and NSX)

I noticed the shifting you mentioned, it's still there but not as a much of a one shot punch, it's more of a softer double mechanical feel. What I do like however, is feeling the haptics way more with tires losing grip on the road. That is a much welcoming change.

Even subtly, since I track a couple of my cars IRL, and with a race or track set suspension, you do feel even the most slightest tire feel starting to lose grip feedback through the steering and undercarriage especially when coming out of an apex turn.

A fantastic change, IMO.

Now for the lap times. The car felt a hair heavier in the physics going into turns, but noticed they braked a lot faster too. My lap times were about 1 second behind, but as soon as I adjusted later in the race, I was able to nail the times I had before.

Also with the PP changes, I was able to squeeze a hair more juice out of some of them cars, adjust downforce and ballast placement and shave a couple of hundredths of acceleration times while lightening them a hair too. Not a massive difference, but one I will probably see in the tenths on times.

As for the tires, I like them as is right now. It feels like a happy medium between the original and recent aggressive wear then drop off the controllability change before this patch.

The menu I am struggling with is the 99 and below GT500 cars from the last update. The one where the first race is in Willow Springs. I tried using the Pennzoil GTR 500, even with a supercharger on it, I just can't seem to catch the lead cars. Any tips?

I think this was made mostly with the Gr. 2 cars in mind. There is not a lot you can add to the Pennzoil so it's better to get a faster car and restrict it. Wonderful set of races!

Yeah, that's what I usually do. Gr.2 also handles a good bit better as well. I am going to go with the Mercedes you use. I had my eye on that car anyhow.
