Sushi1 was literally saved by the strong art design and windy vegetation.

And sushi2 is about to do the same.

This is 99% art design and scene composition and 1% nextgen graphic, and people still think it is the same thing, there is literally not one thing impressive in this pic graphic wise, nothing, zero, nein, nada, nicht.

It's really annoying when people use GOT or GOY as examples of Playstation not pushing the envelope graphically. It's the one franchise they have that has amazing art direction. And games with great art direction hold up so much better over time. GOT will be considered a better looking game than AC shadows 10 years from now. I think it already looks way more appealing in certain aspects

And nobody say otherwise, but in a graphical fidelity topic we tend to separate art design from actual graphical fidelity.

Tsushima definitely doesn't push shit other than a striking art design, even the wind tech wasn't real time but an elaborate trick.

Dude blondie in the last pic is ps4 launch level and unless they use different rendering for different secondary characters, they are all gonna look like that when zoomed in from up close with ryu being probably the most detailed model because he is the protagonist.

Some pics are great but as i always said, we surpassed great looking characters years ago, these are not "absolutely incredible" or even close to that.

I’m going off of what my eyes see in person, and in person, NG2 Black has some incredible looking character models. I didn’t say they were industry-leading like Hellblade 2, but they ARE thoroughly impressive, and are right up there with the likes of modern Final Fantasy ar those games’ strongest moments.

It’s a next/current gen Ninja Gaiden through and through, something I’ve been personally wishing for for over 10 years now.

I think the most disappointing technical aspect of AC Shadow is the character modeling and facial animations.



With such stiff facial expressions and the "shot, reverse shot", we are not that far from Horizon Zero Dawn, if we put aside the level of visual fidelity



When we compare on this point AC Shadow to Horizon Forbidden West which as a reminder in a few weeks will be three years old, there is still a very clear difference :



So yes, using Mocap for an open-world game with lots of conversations, it's definitely not cheap but when we see what it brings to conversations for HFW and that almost three years after its release, it still remains the best on this aspect it may be a worthwhile investment.

We can say that AC Shadow is technically more advanced than HFW as for its lighting, its display distance, the management of the lod with very little pop-in but in itself it is quite logical with a game which will soon have three years but on the other hand it is disappointing that AC Shadow is far from reaching the level of HFW on the character modeling and facial animations.

The quality of the textures in Psychonauts 2 is some of the best I've seen this gen IMO of course

I'm not in a rush, tbh i stopped playing pure action games ala bayo\dmc many years ago, ng1 on xbox or dmc3 was my last one, can't remember which one.

Someone somewhere mentioned that its actually an algorithm they created to apply the canned mocap animations to those dialogue scenes based on some kind of dialogue parameters. HFW has literally thousands of those dialogue scenes and there is no way they sat there mocapping each scene. They just came up with an ingenious way to randomize it without it looking janky.

FF7 Rebirth refunded, the textures are still terrible, cant stand the graphics in the environments in this game

I'm gonna still play it, but I definitely understand your decision, it's not just the textures, it's almost everything weird or terrible with the visuals.
Flat lighting, the shadows go in and out of their full resolution at your feet, I've never seen such an awful shadow cascade, complete lack of interactivity when it comes to foliage.

I keep reading it's so much better looking than Remake, sure, if we're talking about another Rebirth.

There are two types of cutscenes. One are those hollywood directed cutscenes mocapped in a room full of actors. Then there are the 1v1 dialogue scenes you were criticizing in AC Shadows. AC Shadows also has a lot of fancy mocapped scenes, but i thought we were talking about the 1v1 dialogue scenes.

Those i am pretty sure were not recorded 1:1. They captured a lot of talking mocap data and then put it in a system to automate a lot of those movements during the dialogue scenes. I think DF might have been the one to mention it.

Who knows, maybe modders do something about the lighting and improve the most egregious textures. But yeah its just crazy how much work it went to the characters versus the environments. Makes no sense to make a remake looking so goddamn ugly at times

it could be one of those games that doesnt showcase well on youtube.

its also very atmospheric and dynamic like days gone. you need to be playing some of these games, hear and feel the wind rustling the leaves and grass to 'get it'. of course, it could just be paid previews, but Luke Stephens doesnt sound like an average IGN reviewer to me.

Avatar, Wukong and Star Wars Outlaws didnt show off well at these preview events either.

Avatar and wukong always looked pretty good if i remember well, both got a slight downgrade but we were pretty postive about them...

The things is, you can't fucking say industry leading graphic when the models and digital acting can't even reach a 3 years old crossgen and we saw close up of the textures dude...that is NOT industry leading.

Models and digital acting are 2 big ass things in an rpg where you talk with hundreds of characters with camera zoomed in, this is not some incorrect shadows...

I reserve the final judgement for the release but a character\asset dude like me is probably gonna be very critical with this game like i was with sushima.
