Hogwarts Legacy Is Currently The Best Selling Game On Steam

The game's going to be good but I'd be shocked if it were in GOTY discussions. Too many bangers this year.
Yeah, the game seems impressive but it could be a turd as well.

Dialogue and cutscenes direction seem horrible for example, and it really seems to go heavy on the Ubisoft formula with a ton of icons and grind everywhere.

Let's hope for the best though, I really wish it comes out as a good game in the end.

Why people don't wait for reviews? Its not like its 1995 when you have to physically go out and buy game..

Game will be a hit regardless of if it has several major flaws or not.

There's enough casuals gamers and people who have been waiting for a Harry Potter game that a lot of things will be overlooked and enjoyed for what they are.

They'll make bank and no doubt a bigger and better sequel is already entering pre-production, it's pretty much a guarantee now.

Reviews are for casuals, or people who don't know what they like.

If you are completely relying on reviews to make a decision, then yeah.

But they also contain relevant info that can inform your purchase. I may read a review that says "by the way, this game is way easier than it's predecessor. If you thought that game was too easy, prepare to be let down." Or insert literally any possible critique of the game. And then you can decide "hmmm, not gonna spend a hard-earned $70 on that." It doesn't make you a casual or someone who doesn't know what they like.

Folks getting all lathered up supporting what's likely a bin bucket game in an on going proxy war with Era and political beliefs. This thread couldn't be more transparent.

It reminds me of the people who still call pluto aa planet even tho the scientist who require these categorization all come to an agreement.

My understanding of it is that the Pluto/Planet debate is a bad example because the planetary astronomers were still up in the air if it should or shouldn't be a planet and the rest of the astronomers who were not planetary astronomers decided it for them. (Personally I thought if it was up for debate and size is an issue then the terrestrial planets should have never been grouped with the giants since they are so much smaller.)

Any excuse to put the boot into trans ideology madness is fine with me.

It's been settled since then, and even still categorizations can change with new information. Things are added and removed from categories all the time...I think people who think things can only be one way or another take that mentality and apply it to most of their views, while people like me who understand our world is consistently evolving take that perspective to most things in our life.

I don't think so, and that has nothing to do with gaming.

The fact a game is leading steam sales in the dead January isnt a real indication what it'll do. Just shows folks who like this game have no clue in regards to pre-orders and why you shouldn't do it especially since this game has strong B-level vibes.

Great, but how are the gameplay and the reviews in general? I ask because I love books but have no interest in the game.

Right but the problem was that it wasn't the planetary astronomers that made the decision, IE the actual experts.(It was other astronomers who weren't) Plus the excuse at the time was there's too many when it would have added only Eris and Ceres as planets. (For a total of 11. For those that didn't know Ceres is the only asteroid that's actually round.) I think there's been a couple more found that would have qualified, Makemake for one. But when you get down to it one of the big problems with the "modern" planet term is that it probably shouldn't exist. I mean really they probably should have gone with 4 groups, terrestrial, gas giants, ice giants, and kaiper belt objects since none of those groups are that similar anyway.

There have a been a few dev videos showing gameplay that you can look up. IMO it doesn't look ground breaking or anything like that, but it does look fun. I look forward to screwing around the open world while listening to podcasts. Overall, seems like a cool game to relax with for fans of HP.

Regardless if the game is "B-Grade", do you really think the game is where it is on the list because people are uneducated about the concept of pre-ordering - and not because the IP is just huge and it's had a draught in the gaming space?

It coming out in Feb will help it, but it wouldn't be able to compete with other established IP if released at the same time. Harry Potter is a good IP but it's not exactly lighting the world on fire lately. But IP doenst always give games legs - and we have plenty of examples where great cross-over IP end up flopping. It will come down to the game and game mechanics as always.

Yeah, this is the comment that I was referring to when I made the following post in another thread:
https://www.neogaf.com/threads/the-...s-at-limited-run-games.1649473/post-267296617
It's madness! I honestly didnt know that was the same post you meant :messenger_tears_of_joy:

That's pure madness! The point is to change people's views, not to declare a war to anybody, including your allies. They're a great reading about it: What white people can do next, by Emma Daribi. I mean whaaooo!
Sure GAF is not perfect, but as a gay non believer I never felt in danger... on Ree I did! I used a lot the hashtag boycottqtar, not to blame people watching soccer but to inform what is wrong in Qatar and how politicians can't pretend it's okey. Politicians should always be the target, not the users... it's both dumb and dangerous!
The crazy thing is though, this whole thing wasnt really a big issue until they made it one, most normal folks just got on with life

Ask any sane person if they care if anyone is gay or trans, hell, most people wouldnt care if they saw you dying on the street nowdays.

It's a crap time all round, no matter who you are.

I'm usually in favor of having more categorizations than less, I'm also not an expert in the field so I tend to trust what experts say on their particular field. 4 groups do sound cool tho, I wonder if in the future that can happen as we discover more.

Pretty much.

I like the way this guy thinks. We are all soaking in "sin". More for what we don't do, then what we do. But that's the nature of life. We could help save starving children but we are usually more interested in self-preservation, as well as entertainment, for ourselves and our loved ones. We are covered in "sin", and while we should all strive to be better, and all generally agree to not harm our fellow man, there's not really anyone who should be pointing a finger at someone else.

To me, a good example is when everyone feigns outrage when a hunter kills an elephant for sport, or something of the like. Then most of those outraged people go eat a hamburger. And maybe throws away half. I eat meat for pleasure, not for survival. So who am I to chastise someone for killing an elephant in the name of sport/pleasure?

I pre-ordered Cyberpunk for Series X literally because Era told me I would be a bad person if it bought it.

Guess I better start saving up for Hogwarts Legacy.

Not a very good example. Whether you waste meat or not, cows are not going extinct. If somebody really wants to hunt, there's legal and not endangered game out there.

Yeah, but someone isn't necessarily more immoral because the thing they are killing is of a nearly extinct species. I understand that it does make the situation different in some sense, but to chastise someone for that and then go eat your pleasure-burgers from tightly-herded and slaughtered animals just seems a bit silly to me.

Immoral or not depends on your perspective, but it is illegal. I don't disagree with what you're trying to say, just wanted to point out the example itself didn't really help it come through.

Why? The game could still turn out to be mediocre.

It's Harry Potter.

Okay, you want a more detailed reason? It's a fictional universe but based in the real world, but with magic as this completely hidden world. It's the perfect escapism for many people; they can see the familiar but with this whole over aspect to it. In the game you can, as far as we know, explore Hogwarts along with its mass of secrets. There are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, or even millions of people who have waited for years for a proper open-world game to do that in.

I hear you, but pointing out the legality of it sort of misses the point as well. Legality has virtually nothing to do with morality.

Yeah, there are probably more effective examples though. I accept the feedback.

Its going to be one of the biggest selling games of the year, people are gonna be hard coping in here also when it outsells their favorite game lol
lol likely.

If they are able to convert Potter fans and get them gaming, this shit is going to do GANG BUSTERS! Like Spiderman, its not just about the IP, its about the execution and the team doing it. We got Spiderman games before, we got Harry Potter Games before, but with a different team, comes different quality, comes different reaction by the market.

This one could be a megaton.

Will watch all the films and re-read the first 2 books in hypeness

I seriously suspect there is now an "anti-woke" marketing arm at WB. Where they orchestrate fake "woke boycott" campaigns to get all the anti-woke people to buy a product to show support.

Amazing how the cnut is now silent now the 2077 is doing well. Dont even see her saying anything on edgerunners too. Too busy sucking Camerons dcik for avatar 2.
Brooo Kyuuji was so fucking active in the Cyberpunk 2077 OT on Era, he was discussing the game mechanics, story, EVERYTHING because "he received a copy for educational purposes" even 6-12 months later he was still discussing patches and everything "ah the posters are still in it after I played through it again for the 10th time"

so much for boycotting the game after he said it will destroy trans lives lol

This!

I feel there's a huge chunk of Harry Potter fans that aren't regular gamers that this could pull in.( Where as spiderman fans were likely already gamers)

If this lands I really think it could be the biggest console game since GTA5.
