How Do People Think That The Order: 1886 Will Turn Out?

The recent footage we got looks actually quite a bit better than the earlier stuff.

You're right of course in that what's there looks better now but everything's still so cramped and I'm not talking about the black bars. There's talk about wide open areas in OP's video but so far I haven't seen any which makes the whole thing a tad less impressive imo.

How it will turn out? Game will be trashed by the press, I expect a similar reception to Beyond (70 Metacritic at best but could even be an other Ryse situation with a 60 Metacritic)
Fans of the genre (cinematic, linear, third person adevntures) will still enjoy the game for what it is. Others (namely people who wanted the game to be something like Uncharted or Gears of War, who can't stand QTEs, cut scenes intrusion and such things) will be disappointed.
Overall I think the game will be a decent commercial success with 1-2m units sold LTD.

I don't know I haven't play the game yet.

What I was saying is that it's unusual to see an AAA game with this setting hence why it's original, I never said it was the first piece of entertainment in all history to tackle this setting.

It is indeed unusual and the reason I was initially very excited for it but from what I've seen since it looks like pretty unoriginal steampunk.

The premise we know of so far of social unrest, monsters and a medieval style order of monster hunters just isn't, given I haven't seen much and it could turn out to be original after all.

Having immortal Knights of the Round Table in steampunk Victorian England seems like a pretty original twist on it.

So the game's 9-10 hours? That's longer than I thought, I legitimately thought it was gonna be a six hour game.

Still pretty skeptical, definitely taking a 'wait and see' approach with this one.

I think the games going to be incredible personally!

I love the cinematic nature of how it blends gameplay and cutscene.

I'm an absolute sucker sci-fi weapons, and an even bigger sucker for anything with alternate fire.

I really dig the setting, warewolves and vampires? Oh my!

3rd person shooters are great to me.

Plus it's RAD. Who made absolutely amazing games on the PSP. And it wasn't as if those games were "handheld experiences", they were console experience type games on a portable system, now they've got the horsepower of a console to make what they want.

The game has been judged before its release and I hope it really knocks it out of the park enough that at least we get a sequel.

At worst I think this will be like Uncharted 1.

I think that I will enjoy it a great deal and I'll know for sure when I play it in a month

Depends.

Will it come out on VOD?

Early - direct feed (lighting not there yet, no shadows n stuff, only generic bright ambient):

Slightly less early - screen cap from a video(lighting added):

Most recent - screeen cap from a video:

There haven't been any downgrades yet for Sony first parties on PS4. Killzone, Driveclub and Second Son all look as good or better than when revealed. Graphics is the least concern for The Order IMO.

Of course it does, its not a PC exclusives, so which of course means we must negatively critique a game chock-full of positive aspects in favor of looking for anyway to look down at it. Its kind of how it works lately with PC gaf and console exclusives. ;)

Neogaf will like it but critics won't like it quite as much.
I'm expecting like 6.5 or 7s from the majority of critics.

I honestly think that RAD are capable of creating a beautiful game, with Good gameplay, all with a well written narrative. Given their emphasis on cinematics, I'd actually think the story would have been crafted carefully.
Also, it seems that the environment (along with the story) have an underlying tone of mystery, along with some horror. I think maybe they don't show as much as we'd like to see for our own sake; maybe they want to preserve the sense of mystery as we play the game, instead of showing too much in trailers or demos. Though I might be reaching with that conclusion, I still have high hopes for The Order. I feel a lot people could be pleasantly surprised.

Good points all around. I have high hopes it'll be a good game. Nothing mind blowing. But good.

Can't wait for my preorder to come in! Yeh!

We've seen much harsher criticism from people who are wholly unsuspicious of having any agenda and your hype thread wasn't shut down by mean PC gamers. It's just that not everyone agrees with "chock-full of positive aspects".

Pre-ordered the CE, the cinematics and gameplay remind me of TLOU

Source? I was hoping for around 12 hours.

I grow tired of watching some of PC gaf' more prominent members including yourself look for any possible way to look down on console exclusives. Now that's not to say your criticism doesn't have some validity to it, but whats more important is that up until this point you have shown zero interest in the game, I have no problems with the game and its criticism , what I do have a problem with is people like yourself feeding into negativity towards a game which we both know you or them have zero interest in to begin with.

I expect that it will be a linear, story-driven shooter filled with setpieces and spectacle, and it will satisfy people who are into that type of game. I'm one of those people and I'd be on board if I had a PS4 now. The setting and characters look really intriguing to me so I hope it delivers on those fronts. I'm sure that I'll pick it up at some point whenever I get a PS4.

Mediocre. Very short. Repetitive. Not replayable. With a crappy ending. Will be forgotten two weeks after its release. Some will still claim it's the best thing ever on launch day but the game won't make a lot of GOTY Top 10 by the end of the year.

I think its going to look amazing and play just well enough to please most people, but I think it will be light on features/modes and that will hurt its longevity this year. I don't expect people to talk about it after summer. It'll be the Titanfall of 2015.

9-10 hours at what difficulty level? It better be at easy or normal. I want it to be 15-20 hours at harder levels as its just a SP game.

Wonder if reviews will hit early than release or embargoed?

I fully expect to file The Order: 1886 into my library labeled "Games I thoroughly enjoyed to the hilt that most people feel are mediocre to poor at best." Considering how much I loved Lords Of Shadow 2, I will be fully shocked if this does not turn out to be the case.

I think it'll be a solid single player experience that will leave you wondering why the hell it doesn't have mutliplayer.

My only worry is that you'll be able to sit down and play through the entire game in an afternoon. I like my story based full price fare to last at least the weekend.

Oh, and the borders are stupid.

I think the reviews will be mediocre but the game will have a following that really enjoys it.

I think so too, some of the gaming sites seem really salty about it being cinematic. But it looks really good, and not having to worry about a multiplayer mode has really helped out some other shooters (Vanquish, Wolfenstein, etc etc)

I'm getting a very Killzone vibe (in terms of build up to possible letdown) from it. Take from that what you will.

The original Killzone was definitely over-hyped, but nobody called The Order a "Gears killer". Not sure where you got that from.

I think he means Shadow Fall. Being so pretty and one of the first PS4 games and all that, seeming to change up the Killzone formula for the better. It was a very exciting time.

Probably ended up being my least favorite Killzone game though.

SF definitely wasn't as good as it should have been despite being rushed for launch but I liked it more than 3.

I kind of believe no one would be hyped for this game if they didn´t have the graphics they do have ...
I still would be. I love the setting and I like RaD as a studio. There are times I do wish this was a smaller scale release so that I didn't feel crazy for looking forward to it. It hits a lot of the right notes for my personal tastes from what I've seen.

Yeah I doubt it'll be a long game. Exactly why I think it'll be an ideal candidate for 'buy it when it drops to $ 30'.

I think the gameplay will be linear and less dynamic than most modern AAA third person shooters. It will receive more criticism for this than it will deserve, probably unfairly compared with Uncharted and TLOU, whose studio has had a generation to lead development on dynamic gameplay in the genre.

It will only be judged a decent game if the story and characters are great, which I've seen no indication of. Personally I was quite irritated with the bland and generic chatter enemies spout during combat.

This. :)

I'll play it but trying to leave my expectations low so I'm not let down.

A third person shooter set in Victorian steam punk London with cool characters, weapons and werewolves? You really believe no one would be interested in that?

Nope, because it's a third person shooter which means it's inherently generic and mediocre

I think it'll be fine.

Sadly, the internet and media seem unable with some games to feel neither one way or the other. If you don't love a game, then it's shit and you hate it and vice versa, nothing can be 'Fine' or 'Good' anymore. I don't think 'The Order' is going to innovate particularly, I think it'll impress at some points and have its moments.

There'll be some incredible examples of graphical prowess but from what we've seen of the gameplay, I think it'll be reviewed sourly as to how often it takes control from the player. Going by the trophy list, it doesn't seem like there's going to be any replay value at all so I hope RAD have a good lengthy campaign with decent characters and a decent narrative.

75-85 on Metacritic most likely.
