No, I anticipate a long and ugly death for their consoles. Gamepass is a good idea in theory but making your entire business model around it was a huge misstep. The average young gamer (console makers bread and butter) doesn’t want to play 100 games, they want fortnite bucks and FIFA ultimate packs. I think gamepass probably would’ve been a better idea in the 360 era when GaaS didn’t dominate the charts.

You like access to all your gamepass library and have to buy those games you want to keep playing. All ABK games will never be on gamepass either.

No, it's 2024, we haven't seen a thing yet, their studios should at least release their promised contents before we get a clear picture of their state.

What if all these leaks and bad news were planted by Phil himself... 🤔

Next week's announcement is really the unveiling of Kinect 2. Peter Molyneux has a new studio and everyone from Toys from Bob are there. Cliffy B. is hired on as advisor to the Jazz Jackrabbit reboot.

#TEAMBS, for one more generation...

Will there be some Microsoft Gaming games coming to PlayStation and Switch? Absolutely. Will Microsoft kill off the Xbox brand? No. At least not yet. Xbox needs at least one more generation. If console sales are still on a slide, it will probably be their last full featured console to compete head-to-head against Sony in that space but they will shift to what they really want, control over the software and services.

You havent really specified what you mean, there are loads of outcomes:
Nothing changes
Some XBox games coming to rivals
All XBox games going to rivals
They are going digital only
They have new hardware available soon (digital only Series X)
They have new hardware in a couple of years (start next gen early)
They are getting out of the hardware business

Or any combination of the above

For me personally, I think they'll go digital only, there will be a digital series X and they will release 'some' games on rival consoles.

Edit: so I guess #TeamBelieveSomeOfIt? or #TeamSomeOfItIsBS?

They're not announcing that they're stopping all sales of Xbox hardware effective immediately. The console will still be there (probably even a next-gen one), it just won't be the only place you can play those games. It will be one option.

Xbox already died in 2013 on the day that Xbox One launched. So its BS cuz something can’t die twice. Up to that point it was a pretty enjoyable brand if you ask me. Rest in peace old buddy.

They've already completely lost control of the narrative, and Phil just tweeting out some event will happen next week indicates they don't particularly give a shit about that. And yes, they'll pull the plug and in lieu of refunding they will keep services online but shut the store down somewhere in the near future.

I think it's pure bs, lots of haters wishful thinking and fake rumors, Phil will just announce something GP related and that's it we're gonna have a next-gen Xbox.
That's right, criticism of xbox isn't criticism, it's hatred.
Keep right on thinking like that.

Only Phil knows, maybe literally

It could be anything from full-blown Dreamcast style "we're shutting this thing down and becoming fully 3rd party, sorry buy a PS5 lmao" to "we're putting Hi-Fi Rush on PS5 in six months and that's it". I don't think it will be either of those but Xbox will be de-emphasized and they are going to start bringing their main properties on to PS5 and even Switch this year.

Tbh it feels like it is over. I am annoyed as I bought xbox X for the pad, quick launch and physical media. One way or another I am not getting that deal which I paid £600 to be part of the last 2 years. It has been a mostly dissapointing ride made bearable by great bc and retro gems on gamepass.

I really dont want to spend out on a ps5 to play gta6 and big 3rd party releases but I have an awful feeling I wont have a choice.

When I bought Nintendo at least I got great 1st party games, I knew the deal and even on Wii U they stuck with it long enough to pay back my investment. I may get switch 2 to ride out this gen and enjoy their output. But next gen looks like ps6 will be the only high end choice we can trust.

No, Xbox won't "go down".
It will continue to exist in one form or another.

My personal wish is that they make a sort of PC/console hybrid able to boot into regular windows OS and the xbox OS.

But I believe where there's smoke there's fire. The dream some people seem to have; that Xbox will reign supreme in the console space, that will probably die next week, one way or another.

This is a rough 'talking out of my ass' outline of what I'm expecting:

- Legacy Xbox titles will begin popping up on Playstation and Nintendo consoles. Halo MCC will be a launch title for Switch 2 with cross-platform multiplayer. Gears 1-3 trilogy on PS5, alongside the already rumoured Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, etc

- Microsoft will price-slash all Series X consoles to $349 to be replaced with the all-digital model in July. White Series S will be discontinued, Black 1TB will get MSRP price drop to $249-$279 around September. Fire sale on physical Xbox Series titles will be retailer-specific

- There will be some revamping( again) of Gamepass taking into account Activision's inclusion to the portfolio. Maybe they go ultra aggressive and make basic online player free or real cheap ($4.99) , regular gamepass $10.99 and GPU gets raised to $21.99 which includes legacy ABK content and Call of Duty. That 70bil ain't gonna pay itself off.

Literally going down? No. But it will never be the same if their first party games start coming to Playstation.
I can't imagine their only selling point moving forward being "you can play everything on PS5 but at least you get it "free" on GamePass with us", if hardware sales are struggling now i can't imagine what it will look like then.

I hope that Phil announces that the Sega Saturn is available today, at Kaybee Toys!!!

More likely day one on Gamepass is no more.

Yeah that makes sense
Have a whole business update about there being no update

They may stop going for consoles but in the end they'll still control all that IP they had no hand in making. Now if they start selling those off I'll be happy lol
