You know, this could be an interesting community exercise: build a set of intro packs for a set. I'd make an attempt myself, but I shouldn't let myself get distracted from work too much now.
Another idea is seeing how much a player could really figure out about the story just by looking at the cards with no preexisting knowledge of the story, by doing so yourself.
They did this for Mirage when the set was released on MTGO. They took community suggestions, had community votes, ect. There are some articles on Dailymtg about it but I can't get the pages to load

Tamiyo is a good card that seems utterly mismatched w/ a format featuring CC and Avacyn.
Hopefully that means she'll be cheap for awhile.

I'm gonna try Emrakul in my Grixis build going forward but Gisela is just so bad because of that 3 toughness. They made 2 burn spells in the set alone that deal with her at a mana advantage.

It's honestly baffling just how bad burn has been, curious where burn is gonna land now.
Incendiary flow doesn't deal with Gideon or Nissa the turn they come into play since both usually remain or get to 4 Loyalty, not even if it were instant speed.
There's a W/R humans list that could slot it is all I can think of right now.

Company might see a ban from Modern. It's the same as Birthing Pod, it only gets better.
But that ban might not happen for a while.

CoCo has 1 competitive deck in modern in the form of Knightfall / Bant Company so far. I'm sure eventually more will form and it might need a ban eventually but until then it'd be very weird to ban.

I don't think Wizards understands the idea of cosmic horror at all...
They should stay away from cosmic horror in the future. Maybe come back to it with something else that isnt Eldrazi on a plane based around setting it up. Zendikar is heroic cosmic horror and it isnt the same.

I don't think cosmic horror suits the stories they want to tell tbh. At least as long as they're Gatewatch focused.

I don't think cosmic horror suits the stories they want to tell tbh. At least as long as they're Gatewatch focused.
No it isnt. Because the Gatewatch will mostly likely always win. Its an anchor around the set storytelling. And there is little tension around the Gatewatch because we assume as brand mascots they will never die and are unlikely to be put out of commission for long.

You know gw tokens doesnt even play Coco right ?? Lol if anything Dromokas command is the card that overlaps in both decks. The sad part is Collected Company is really really strong. The other day i built a deck for the new set with Thalia, Sylvan advocate , Tireless tracker, thalias lieutenant with collective effort , gideon and nissa and realized that i was better off just cutting the planeswalkers and making a full collected company deck.
I dont know , I havent been able to find any interesting decks to build. I want to brew a deck around Decimator of provinces but get the feeling its some kind of cryptolith rights kind of deck.
The other deck I might try to build is Green/Colorless Eldritch Evolution with Deathmist Raptor , Den protector , Matter Reshaper , Thoughtknot Seer , Reality Smasher , World Breaker.
Or ill do the smart thing and let better brewers come up with better deck ideas than me .

Is anything from this set looking chase? Anything I should expect to hear "oh shit that guy opened an X" at the pre-release? Emrakul seems the closest, but that's about it

Legacy: Sensei's Divining Top ban - It basically reads: (1): Add 20 minutes to your match. Also Mircales needs a nerf IMO and this is a piece it could survive without

My very first constructed deck got to play four copies of Lingering Souls. Man, what a time to be alive.
I think CoCo in standard is the only ban necessary for now. With a few more great 3 drops Bant colors printed in Moon, CoCo is gonna continue to dominate.
Divine Top at least felt beatable, tho maybe I need to play the matchup several more times.
Rystic Study is more of an annoyance. Every cast is followed up with "Are you gonna pay for that?" Usually nets that player with several draws...you know what, ban that shit!

I saw Kirblar post this over on Reddit as well. What're the broken things that it's currently enabling? I won't be entirely surprised if it ends up banned eventually but other than Living End and Ad Nauseam it really isn't seeing play and hasn't been since Eldrazi Winter. Neither of those decks is "broken" so really the only thing it's doing is nudging two unique deck archetypes up a bit and making the occasional, janky shit deck run a bit more consistently.
