Are there any new karts outside of the Splatoon stuff? None of the karts in the original really fit King Boo.
Yeah Paratroopa would have made a great addition to the roster. I don't think it would work as an alt though since the trick animations would need to be changed for the wings.

If the answer is 'no' I'd be super curious what happens if someone pulls the switch out during a 4P match.
AFAIK everything you can do in docked you can do in tabletop/portable mode. Mario Kart just gives an option for wireless LAN which only allows 2P per console. So I guess doing 4P splitscreen docked and another 2P on a tabletop switch in the same race wouldn't work. No way for 6 people to play locally with 2 switches.
Also what happens if King Boo gets a boo item? Does it have some weird inverse effect of bringing the king boo back to life?

I will say, DS deserves more credit than it gets. most robust single player experience. and If i recall it was the first Mario Kart to use fully 3D rendered sprites. in my mind its the first true 3D MK.

As a kid, I used to make up Mario Kart lore about Koopa for whatever reason.
After Super Mario Kart, Koopa came down with a terminal illness that left him weak and unable to race in Mario Kart 64. But during the invites for DD, Koopa was feeling a little better, and given the double nature of the races, his buddy Paratroopa could help him get through the races, despite his illness.
Then after DD, Koopa died. But his racing spirit wouldn't quit, and so he came back to race again in MKDS, as Dry Bones.
And from then on, I now view Dry Bones in Mario Kart as being the re-animated corpse of the Super Mario Kart Koopa. And games where they both appear are just his son or something. Even though I'm in my late 20s, my silly childhood Mario Kart lore still lives on in my mind haha. I was pretty happy to see Dry Bones return.
The Clown Car from MK7 and Smash 4. Other than that, I don't know.
Completely agree with your list. Might put DS and 7 at a tie, if only for that spectacular mission mode and Rob!
Yes. The one thing I want to see in new Kart games is adding on to/expanding the DS' single player stuff. Really enjoyed it.

Only watched this because others commented on the cool voice. Didn't disappoint.
The part where he falls over is when you first hear the sax solo when coming out of the water in Dolphin ShoalsNew players when they listen the courses themes of the soundtrack.

I agree, 7 and DS are really close. the DS version might even have the edge overall, but i really enjoyed the 3d implementation in 7.
that single player mode was really enjoyable. and coming from someone that likes playing MK solo as much as I do with others, It would add a lot of value if they brought it back

Wow, never heard that crazy improv middle part of the song. Dude is just playing his heart out.
My head canon is that King Boo can't make the kart incorporeal and still concentrate enough to drive the thing.

How are they doing this? USB-to-Ethernet dongle x 2? Or am I misunderstanding and it's just regular local peer-to-peer WiFi?
complicated wired setup to make you feel like you're getting less lag when in actuality it probably doesn't make a difference for this kind of game
just stick with wireless

LAN is has theoretically less latency and chance of having minor sync issues.

EDIT also wireless can only do 8p on switch, wired has no limit
Wireless is online? I thought it was just connecting systems directly. Like you could take two Switches on a plane and play.

You get an Ethernet Switch with enough ports for however many consoles you're hooking up.
As far as I can tell wireless play is only for up to eight players, looks like LAN can get you up to twelve, though I could be mistaken.

what a ridiculous display of sax mastery in however many bars. like, fuck. the intonation and sustain on that one high note was fucking nuts. when he was playing over the changes when it starts switching keys was crazy too. man that was great.

I'm not hating on the game.. but it's not a 94 metacritic game when MK8 was an 88. It's maybe an 89/90.
So I feel it's overrated.
Ah got it thanks! Awesome that they're supporting all these different modes. Playing multiplayer MK on a long flight with multiple Switches sounds AMAZING.
You can't actually hear it in a match, even above ground. Hopefully they changed that. This version of the song was only in MKTV replays.

I'd hope so, but I've yet to see any confirmation of multiplayer working like this for any game so far, so I'm just a bit worried.
