If this goes up at 5am on the US West, I'll get up and start downloading. Then I'll just go back to sleep for a little while so it can finish.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
No preload?

I guess the silver lining in this for me is that Comcast decided to upgrade their base speed in the package I pay for so I'm get 160MbDown/11MbUp and I get 19Mb/s from Steam now as a result. Still, can't say I'm surprised that their isn't a pre-load, it is Konami.

Gamepad on SP, K/M on MP.

If the MP is any better than 4 that is.

This is where I find myself falling into probably.

So let me get this straight.

When it's unlock time for NZ, it'll be unlock time elsewhere. Meaning, on the 31, in Chicago, the game will unlock for me to download at 7 a.m. in the morning. And after that is done, I'm playing it on the 31st?

Even if it is only for New Zealand you can just use a VPN to download it early. The same worked for Arkham Knight release on PC.

I can understand some people being upset, but to me, this seems like a minor thing.

It's the last big entry in Metal Gear Ruse. Lock down the spoilers as long as possible before idiots and/or media plaster them everywhere.

because spoilers haven't leaked already?

are you equating spoilers with a pre-load? if memory serves, nobody has been able to get any data out of a steam preload before.

While I'd like this game to release at 8am EST on the 31st, I'm also okay with it never releasing.

I would have a new Kojima Metal Gear game to always look forward to eventually playing.

Why would a preload have any affect on this? Steam's preload encryption has yet to be broken.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Steam pre-loads are heavily encrypted and missing essential files, like executables, that aren't downloaded until unlock. I get the publisher wants to keep a narrative heavy game secretive, but unless I'm misremembering something Steam's pre-load encryption is yet to be cracked and thus nothing would leak.

Steam pre-load is actually really reliable and safe. Konami don't have any excuse not to use it.

In Steam is there anyway to set this to download while I'm at work? As long as I have Steam on the game should automatically download as soon as it is unlocked right?

The problem isnt Steam preloading encryption. Its Konami's lack of faith in the encryption. But they rather trust retailers breaking street date. Its a good thing I have a fast connection and that 30gb should be the matter of 2 or 3 hours at most.

But what about others with worse connections or data limit ? :/
Anyway, its not like Konami is going to have another occasion to make it possible considering it might be the last canon Metal Gear.

unless there's a way to set it to download remotely (and there may be), you'll have to start the download process yourself

I would go KB + M but the movement just feels janky on keyboard, dunno why, I'm sure it's a matter of just getting used to it.
Then again atleast Ground Zeroes let you switch controller methods on the fly, so I did all the precise shooting and turret sections with the mouse.

Steam pre-load is actually really reliable and safe. Konami don't have any excuse not to use it.

The way pre-loads work exactly is that the depots as they existed upon a game becoming pre-loadable (Steam's backend keeps older versions of depots, which is why even Valve can roll back patches when necessary) are downloaded in an encrypted state, provided of course they're included in your package. The reason there is often a relatively small download period upon unlock is that the data no longer matches, so Steam has to download what is essentially a patch -- there are no missing files, aside from perhaps the executable in cases where the game in question is using CEG ("Steam DRM"), due to how it works.

But, yeah, you're absolutely right that there's no justification for a lack of a proper pre-load period. Even if Konami spent a few days fiddling with the data and it resulted in a 5GB "patch" on release day, that'd be preferable to downloading the whole hog for just about everybody.

A bit off topic, but will you guys go with gamepad or k/m?

I'm thinking kb/m since I feel a game with over the shoulder aiming would be better that way but I had a bit of trouble acquainting myself to GZ's controls since there were a deal of buttons to remember. I finished the game easily on PS3 while the PC version was a little harder for me, had to constantly check the bindings. I'm a bit torn, to be honest.

Mine is pretty and pink
Too bad ... but since my speed is fast, maybe it will take me 5 mins to download it all.
You and your goddamn fibre connection
probably
.

Will probably take 25 min for me so not really as bad as some.

Started playing gz with controller but after trying m/kb I couldn't go back to controller, I value precision a lot.
